Help! / Snow in 2000AD
02 July, 2016, 03:08:44 PM
Howdy folks! I've been thinking about when snow appears in 2000AD stories. Random, I know.

Do you have any favourite scenes or stories from the Prog that featured snow in some manner or another?

I have been tasked with creating a straightforward vegetarian meal for two, but for a person with some quite severe food allergies.

I need a recipe that DOES NOT contain the following:

Eggs
Mushroom
Peppers
Tomato
Celery

Can anyone suggest anything please?

I need to be able to gather the ingredients and get it cooked between 6.30pm and 8pm, so time is short!!

Film & TV / Whovians - web tv series
04 November, 2015, 10:07:52 AM
Hi all

Seeing as we have some Dr Who fans on the board (most of you presumably?  ;) ) I thought I'd flag up the new web series, Whovians:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9bB5kUDBlibTePkBuieI8w

http://geeksin.wales/2015/11/03/whovians-web-series-for-doctor-who-fans/

It follows a group of Dr Who fans, their lives, loves, and conventions.  There will be a new episode each week, with the final coinciding with the last in the current series of Dr Who.

You might spot a certain Planet Replicas Judge in episode 4...  ;)

At least one of you seemed amenable to me posting a non-2000AD creation, so here he is.

I'm still working on him - had a nasty accident after baking him which  left him in pieces on my kitchen floor, but after some repair work he's ready to paint.

Some of you may remember the tattoo I have of the Monkey King on my back. He's been with me ever since I saw the Japanese TV series as a child.  I've also read a couple of the translations of Journey to the West, and seen quite a few films. I have countless bits of Monkey King tat scattered about the house.

Anyway, I wanted to do a homage to the source - the TV series.  However, I wanted to add my own flavour.  As such, while he's wearing the TV outfit, the rest I made up as I went along.

Anyway, here he is so far:

Creative Common / Making my own... Judge Dredd! (ish)
24 August, 2015, 11:38:53 AM
It was only a matter of time before I turned to our favourite lawman of the future!

I have actual built this already, and it's ready for painting, but I'm going to gradually post the progress shots over the next day or two to see if you can figure out which Dredd I've gone for.

For those of you who've seen it evolve on Facebook, don't let on!

Anyway, this time instead of recreating a particular panel I have instead chosen an artist and a story, and created Dredd as a composite of several panels.

While it doesn't quite ape the artist's style, it's there in spirit.

It's a beast of a piece, bigger than Sensitive Klegg.  I thought it would either turn out well or go to the dogs real quick.

Anyway, here's the first pic:

Any initial thoughts?

Creative Common / Making my own Don Uggie Apelino!
09 August, 2015, 06:32:49 PM
Howdy folks. Fresh from my success with making my own Gronk and Sensitive Klegg, I looked at my leftover wire and clay, and wondered if I had enough for another figure.

I played with the wire and found I could do a basic humanoid figure, so decided to go ahead with one of my ideas for another project - Don Uggie Apelino.

I bloody love Don Uggie, partly 'cos I have a thing about apes and monkeys already.  I was particularly pleased to see him reappear in the recent Dredd/Mars Attack.

However, it is this rendition I'm aiming for:

You may have seen a bit of the process on my FB page already, but I'll go back to the start.

So here goes - wire frame Uggie!

Creative Common / Making my own...?!
27 July, 2015, 12:33:51 AM
Can you see what it is yet?

Anyone who has already seen some of the process on FB, don't spoil it! I want to see if anyone can guess what my next Super Sculpey project is.

Creative Common / Making my own Gronk!
19 July, 2015, 12:45:17 AM
So I've been making my own Gronk, as I just can't afford the 3A one.

I haven't done any clay modelling or painting in 20 years, so this is going to be tricky I think!!

Here's the basic framework, super Sculpey over wire:

General / Dredd vs Death - bodycount
08 April, 2015, 10:10:40 AM
Has it ever occurred to anyone that if we exclude Deadworld, and concentrate on fatalities in Dredd's world, Judge Dredd has caused a much higher bodycount than Judge Death and his cronies?  I'm pretty sure Dredd has killed far more than the Dark Judges, what with nuking the odd city here and there etc.

Surely this makes Dredd the ultimate Dark Judge?

Any thoughts?

Film & TV / EX MACHINA - MASSIVE FECKIN SPOILERS THREAD
04 February, 2015, 07:59:08 AM
Right, a few of us have seen the Ex Machina film now, and I know at least one of us is gagging to chat about it.

I've set this thread up JUST FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SEEN IT.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM YET, READ NO FURTHER, OR THE FILM WILL DEFINITELY BE SPOILT FOR YOU WHEN YOU EVENTUALLY SEE IT.

I'm going to leave that statement hanging there for a bit before I post my thoughts, but if anyone wants to jump in with theirs first, go for it!!

Games / Rogue Trooper on PC - I have a compatability fix!
15 December, 2014, 11:53:26 PM
Hi all

Rogue Trooper is awesome, easily the best 2000AD game, and is available DRM free here:

http://www.gog.com/game/rogue_trooper

It says it runs on Windows 7/8, but it takes a minor bit of fiddling about.

There are still issues with the 'on rails' bit, but it is easily fixed. When you get to the bit on the train, or chasing the generals gunship in your own, you'll notice severe juddering and slowdown.

To avoid this, play the game for a bit and then close it down. Go to the 'start' button, right click on Rogue Trooper icon and choose 'properties'. Choose the 'compatability' tab, and then click the checkbox for running it in Windows XP Service pack 3.

Hey presto - fully working game!

Hi all

Flint will be interviewing artist David Roach of Dredd, Anderson, and Nemesis (and much much more) fame shortly.

Many of you will be familiar with his incredible work on the hallowed pages of 2000AD.  If not, check out this (hopefully accurate) Wiki page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Roach_(comics)

This is your opportunity to ask David your questions.

Ask away - the more contributions from you guys, the more we can learn about his fantastic contributions to the success of 2000AD!

I don't have a deadline date as yet, but I know this is coming very very soon, so get in there folks!!

Off Topic / Lego Ghostbusters build in iMotion
30 June, 2014, 10:50:54 PM
I wasn't sure where to put this, so I'm dumping it here.

I got one of my wee gals the Lego Ghostbusters kit for her birthday, and tonight we built it.  I also had an opportunity to test the iMotion ios app.

Two and a half hours in just over two minutes!

Has anyone else got iMotion, or this Lego kit?

Books & Comics / Calvin and Hobbes documentary
24 June, 2014, 01:38:59 AM
There's a cracking C&H documentary up on Netflix at the mo, called Dear Mr Watterson.  It's really interesting - a great snapshot of the man and his work. While it quotes Watterson, there's no appearance, but that's hardly a surprise given his protection of his private life since he first met with success.

I particularly liked the section where they discuss his decision not to market his creations, ie stuffed toys, lunchboxes etc etc.  I always admired that - he put his vision before making massive wads of cash.  My girls over the years have begged me to get them a stuffed Hobbes, and has led to some really interesting discussions with them about creator rights, and why he went down that route.

Anyway, do we have many fans of C&H on the board?

Does anyone have this?  It maps a 3D object and then allows you to view 'around' it in the finished pic.

Here's a couple of mine:

Skull in SPAAACE! (Dylan Teague background)

Planet Replicas DREDD Underbelly badge

Chewbacca with Sarlacc background

Let's see some of yours!
