Film & TV / Primer, the new Donnie Darko?
25 November, 2006, 06:02:15 AM
I watched this the other night, very low budget flick about time travel.  One hell of a head trip movie, will be watching several times to see if its as tricky as it seems to be to me.
Anyone else seen it? comments?, am I dumb for not getting it or is it truely gobbldygook.  Maybe I should have a Masters degree in physics to get it, still entertaining though.

Film & TV / Its the end of the world as we know it...
11 October, 2006, 01:12:56 AM
heads up to any one out there who likes Lost and some of the other US Drama-fi oput there.
Dont know if you have it yet but I saw the second episode of Jericho last night.  Edge of the seat stuff in the first two episodes hope it continues that way.
Basic plot - Guy comes home to US town(Jericho) after being away(missing) for 5 years, as he's leaving big mushroom clouds on the horizon.  Town looses all comunication ith outside world power goes off and town starts to go bat shit.  Kids traped on a bus and rolled over prison bus with no one on it.  Thats just the first episode the second one ramps everything up and start to wonder about fall out, radiation etc.
Dont know how accurate it is in terms of its science(I always thought multiple nukes going off and that wss it for all of us quite quickly) but I'm a sucker for this end of the world stuff and so far the show seems good.

Any US boarder watching this, get better or drop off and turn to crap?

Books & Comics / Garth Ennis - The Boys

anybody read this yet, just read a review over on Aint It Cool and it sounds alright but I'd rather get the Hiveminds opinion(haven't been led wrong by it yet).  Ennis's first completely new series since Preacher and its limited 60 issues which is always a good thing if you ask me.

General / Tooth and Meg best they've ever been?
27 July, 2006, 01:48:06 PM
to follow on from my off subject remarks on the Black Siddah thread.  I really think that 2000AD and the Megazine are the best they've ever been since I started reading(around early 90's) infact I'd say Tooth's in a new Golden Age far surpassing the early eighties run(i wasn't a reader back then but chased down quite a few older issues and reprints).  The shear number of top new thrills introduced in the last couple of years(pretty much since Rebellion brought it).  Not just one off thrills either alot of them seem to be building decent worlds that multiple stories can run from.
I also like the way the Spurrier Droid has been introducing his new strip Harry Kipling, no book 1 6 month wait for book 2 etc instead we get a couple 2 to 4 part stories to set things up and test the waters with a new character, if they're not popular you can dump him after a couple of strips without having to commision a quickly written book 2 wrap up(Grudge FAther, Mambo I'm looking at you) to finish off the story or just cut it after Book 1 leaving the story incomplete(Vanguard, Witchworld). Its so anoying when stories are never ended  imagine if 10 Seconders wasn't the hit it seems to be, would've made for a pretty crap end to the story where it left it.
Anyway enough of that what's your favorite strips introduced or re-booted in the last few years?
I'd say 10 Seconders, Simping Detective and Savage are my fav's from the last few years and I'm very interested to see where Kipling's going could be classic.

So are we in a new Golden Age for Tooth surpassing the early 80's? is the Meg still in its first golden age?
discuss, debate or just plain dissagree with me what do you think?

Film & TV / Rogue Trooper Movie?
26 May, 2006, 09:34:35 AM
read a preview of the game last night(import mag from you guys take a couple of months to get here)in Games TM and just a littlre throw away line at the end that made me think, wont quote directly but it was along the lines of, See the character now befor he's changed too much by the Hollywood movie in production.  Do they know something we don't? or even something Rebellion don't know yet?  Is there a Rogue movie in production does anyone know and do ya think a Rogue movie would be any good?  Warmachine Friday or classic RT with BioChips? Vin Disel painted blue.

How do all Steamboy here back from a long summer break(too much work here to mooch during summer) from the board, as you see I'm now the Radbacker(wasn't able to get back in with me old account?).
How  has everyone been, I've been increasing my GN collection over the summer and have now read V for Vendetta(awsome), WE3(made me cry), SMAX and toones of other stuff(all recomended from the board and all top reeads).  Got an Xbox360, I likey lots just need a High Def T.V to enjoy properly(will get online with it one day) spewing R.T isn't comming to the 360 though.

Anybody out there read the Disturbing little comic called Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, by some writter named Vasqueze.  Quite interesting and very very nasty observations on life and death and being picked on, really made me laugh lots but I felt so wrong doing it.
Congrats to the Trout on his little one be talking to you all soon.
