UNDT Round 1 - Rogue Judges (Villains)

We keep the Mega City One theme this morning looking at that common feature in Dredd's world the Judge gone bad. 15 years in the academy makes for a mean opponent, but you'd think they'd teach them to bloody behave wouldn't you! But which of these Rogues are your favourites?

Pop the names if the two characters you'd like to progress into Round 2 in a reply to this thread and I'll count up early Friday 24th July.

This is the first tricky round. Without doubt, Crazy Barry Kurten gets an immediate vote (along with Little Mo.)

Instantly discounting Smiley - worst Dredd character ever - leaves a difficult choice. Edgar is one of Dredd's best long-running foes - master planner and manipulator. Cal was the product of a simpler era, and is, of course, hugely derivative, not just of his namesake Caligula, but specifically of John Hurt's performance in I, Claudius.

But... he is the living law! Do you doubt it? In this round, it's the fruitcakes that triumph, not these mealy-mouthed, behind-the-scenes types. Judge Cal for the win! Take that, J. Edgar Hover!

Yes, yes I did - you wouldn't believe how long it actually took me to track down a website for him this morning. Much as I love Barry Kitson art I was soooo sick of it this morning.

Cal and Edgar, two opposing ends of a spectrum united only by their enmity with Dredd - one subtle, patient, calculating; the other balls-to-the-wall batshit crazy. Both great foes.

Just a thought: Will Judge Pin feature at some stage as a possible candidate in one of the polls? I thought she was one of the most memorable foes that Dredd has faced in recent times.

Edgar and Kurten for me. Cal was great but I was far too young at the time, and when I finally did read It I felt a bit too old. 
Edgar is the perfect Dredd nemesis in my book.  Not quite evil, but nasty, sneaky and powerful.  I miss her.

Kurten was amazingly mental but oddly believable, and the revelation that Mo was also an abbreviation of his first name was a lovely touch.

Judge Cal could use a Judge like Smiley: some sort of back-up plan just in case things go wrong. Yes, that would be sensible. Some insurance. But he doesn't like the way he's looking at him! How can you trust a man like that? Better to pickle him - just to be sure!!!

Edgar's hired Kurten to look into some corruption in Sector House 7. Only Mo's not so sure we can trust that bald, conniving witch!
