Oh what treats are in store for you humble mortals...
Monsters!
Aliens!
An exclusive strip from Inaki Miranda and Eva de la Cruz.
All this under the watchful eye of guest editor... Alan Grant!
Fear the Future...
Is there a website yet/again?
Looks good!
Oooh...Inaki Miranda & Eva de la Cruz! That's pretty special, isn't it? Is it going to be printed in colour?
Who drew the dapper alien?
Also, what exactly does Alan Grant's duties as Guest Editor consist of?
Website coming soon!
Alien by Geoffery Shane.
And don't worry, Mr. Grant earned his money...
Old website's still up at
Link: Art's FutureQuake
How do I order it?
And whatever happened to that Inaki Miranda and Eva de la Cruz one-pager competition?
Cheers,
M@
It will be for sale at the Bristol con, and thereafter through mail order. Details will follow soon!
The teaser above is indeed from the winner of the I&E competition.
"And whatever happened to that Inaki Miranda and Eva de la Cruz one-pager competition?"
Well...might it be impudent of me to suggest that you're seeing the partial results of it immendiatly above in rac's initial post? Of course, they still haven't told us who won the competition, or indeed if the reultant strip is to be printed in colour(!).
Who's doing the cover for this issue?
...might it be impudent of me to suggest that you're seeing the partial results of it immendiatly above in rac's initial post? Of course, they still haven't told us who won the competition...
Well it looks like it wasn't me, at least(!)
M@
Ah, I wouldn't worry, it was probably all a fix anyway. They probably gave it to one of their mates or something.
Didn't you think it was suspicious when no-one was informed whther or not they'd won?
Well we know it's got tentacles in it- that should narrow things down a lot.
So how many stories featured tentacles then?
Come on, speak up!
Didn't you think it was suspicious when no-one was informed whther or not they'd won?
How said no-one was informed!!?
Maybe YOU weren't because you're a big fat looser.
Come now, at least try and form your sentances into some kind of legible order if you wish to insult me, you cheeky rapscallion!
I never claimed that you should inform "big fat losers" such as myself, merely the poor average joes like Mr. banners here who worked his heart and soul into a page, and then never got so much as a 'how's yer father'?
Also, given the "Snail" fix, your attempts to take the moral high ground on this are somewhat questionable.
How about this, I'll form proper "sentances" when you learn to spell the word properly.
Don't be so harsh on poor Byron, after a hard day librarianing and not writing promised three panel Monster Squad strips for freely volunteering illustrators, he's all spelled out.
poor average joe?
I'll have you know I got 2/10 in Comics International once!
M@
See Mat is well below average...
!
I got 2/10 in Comics International once!
For a small press peice?
You do realise they grade those on the 'Special' scale, right?
You do realise they grade those on the 'Special' scale, right?
Yup - and the art was worth all 2 of those points!
M@
Because it was about to fall off the bottom.
I heard that the cover is a bit shit...
Yeah...
PJs understudy gets his big chance... but does he blow it..?
Just wait and see people!
Does the cover have a field of root vegetables or trees in the background on it?
Well... I think they're trees.
Seeing as I can't seem to contact Rac or James through the review site email thang:
Depending on how Lost Property is received, would you consider hosting a longer Mega Man in Future Quake? As I have an idea for a story that would probably work better in normal comic format (an origin story, principaly taking the mick out of the Superman origin story and Harry Potter)
If you are interested (or not) email me to say what you think, if interested I'll send a synopsis, and if still interested, as soon as possible, a script
Ziainnixon *at* aol.com
If exceptt Given my *ahem* artistic abilities, someone else should draw it, as long as Mega Man keeps his (Literally) square jaw I'll be happy :)
Is this the one that MEANWHILE is appearing in?
When is it due out? Where will I be able to get a copy?
Will it have the following page of fabulous art in it? But all nicely lettered and everything?
Should I get Wake to delete the (currently top of the poll) script for MEANWHILE from the script test section of the site? Otherwise people might be so eager to read it (like all those people reading the Episode III script rather than waiting for the film) that all suprise is ruined?
Should I?
PS: I like the way that the brilliant artist; Gibson Quarter a sometime collaborator with Alan Grant; has emphasised the switch pulling - this emphasis wasn't in the original script and gives it a bit more impact
So far despite e-mails I have been unable to reach anyone from Futurequake about the stall at Bristol. If soemone could contact me I'd appreciate it.
Paul
'I heard that the cover is a bit shit...'
snicker.
No worse than the art on the story it represents...
Sorry Paul.
That's all been my fault.
No worries, that'sone more thing sorted for Bristol anyway!
Cheers
Paul
"That's all been my fault."
It usually is, isn't it rac?
Just discovered that we need to lose a page, Byron.
There's some black and white Sweeney shit that needs the old heave ho...

Will you stop double posting all the time, man?! You're beginning to make me think I've got a cataract!
Anyway, don't care if you drop it - I've got me own website online now (for the one internet nutter who looks at it) which is now back online after some internet nutter infected it up with some dirty virus.
Anyway, don't be so mean to poor Mr. Williams! Shame on you! He's only 12, you know.
Link: It's all gone confusingly manga...
I've got me own website online now (for the one internet nutter who looks at it) which is now back online after some internet nutter infected it up with some dirty virus.
Oi! I did a strip for remember? ;)
What?!
It better not have been you who infected it or I'll kick you arse!
No, seriously, I will if you did. But I don't think it was you. Or it better not have been.
I'm sorry if the virus did come from me, if it did it was an accidentand certainly was not done with any intention of malice
Actually it almost cetainly wasn't me as only visited a few times before you posted the message about the virus
No, it was done deliberatly by someone actualising some kind of wank fantasy power trip. Still, no matter, it's back now, that's the main thing. And we've got your lovely strip to look forward to as well!
You wrote it. I like the pic of the ghost when he's angry, if i say so myself
Conexus - are the Megaman strips up on a website anywhere?
Oh, and did I mention the space monkeys?
Conexus - are the Megaman strips up on a website anywhere?
The first ones are here, they got kinda crap and kinda abandoned in the next arc. (in my mind now, only the first thirteen episodes are kosher)
Link: Mega Man
"Oh, and did I mention the space monkeys?"
What kind of a sick, depraved comic is this where you clearly show some poor dissembowled space-age simian, in clear contravention of the Chap-Book Code Authority ruling, which states that monkey innerds are not to be seen within the confines of a comic-bok, since they are considered to be sacred, god-like animals to the simple people of England?
Heh. That's one of my ones...
Yeah, blame Art for the exploding space monkey!
Fairy nuff.
Art's killed a monkey, folks.
People with a VERY special reason to buy #1:
Tank Grrl.
Is that like 'Special Needs'?
Think we need a bit more info, mate.
Monkeys cant die!
Byron, it was the first of a short series of cryptic posts giving the names of at least two people who have a VERY SPECIAL reason to buy Futurequake issue 4, in all good retailers soon.
That's only really served to confuse me more, you master of enigma!
and....you tease...
Heh... Tank Girl... good one...
People with a VERY special reason to buy, number 2:
Oddboy
Of course Oddboy will also want you to know about his strips in the upcoming LOST PROPERTY collection, which will also be on sale at the same table as FQ......
Pimp-01
Of course, this is all gorssly unfair as there's three of you (four, if you count the obviously-blackmailed-into-taking-part Alan Grant) and there's only one of me and one of PVS ...
"People with a VERY special reason to buy"
Are these just people who have work featured in the comic? Because if they are, don't you think that's kind of localised selleing? You really want to aim for as large a market as you can if you want to make your money back.
"there's only one of me and one of PVS"
Well, surely there's only one of any of us, but I don't see it as a reason to make a big song and dance.
These are not people whose work features in the comic.
And some might say it was unfair that LMS is twice as big as any of us.
longmanshort picks a flower from the lawn and begins plucking its petals
"Hmmm, undercut Futurequake, not undercut Futurequake, undercut Futurequake ..."
Futurequack bears in mind that calling someone a "big man" is generally considered a compliment.
...and also remembers that you pay for quality...
That'll be 700 quid then.
;)
And Paypal is fine.
...unless you can blag it...
I love these conversations where I have no clue at all what people are actually talking about.
Just adds to that burning ball of rage that I keep pushing down into the blackness inside of me...
Gaviscon or Duff can douse that fire Byron.
Dont,whatever you do, drink B.O.Juice.
Cringe.
eh?
wha?
why?
que passa?
I've clearly missed something! If you explain what, there's probably a sale in it.
xTGx
How about a line up of Strips and Creators to whet ones appetite?
Tulkas - and to see who got in over the one strip i managed to finish. Bah, grr, honk, etc.
Just wait and see Tanky...
"Gaviscon or Duff can douse that fire Byron."
That's true. Gaviscon pours water on the Devil's fire - it's true, I've seen it in adverts!
Tanky, I've no idea either...
...Dudley did show me a preview of the cover, with a blotchy black marker pen scribble on the front cover hiding something.
More then that...?
Was it hiding something? Thought that was the cover :P
Bolt-01. Thinking that JEB should reaise he was joking, but that after the last time he made a joke on here he ended up in all sorts of bother....
Are you calling me a whore?
Don't you start!
Bolt-01
Wait, so you're saying the cover's rubbish?
And here was me thinking you lot were just being sneaky.
This would be the cover I showed to Byron and Nathan at Smokeshed, with the words "Now, you have to PROMISE not to mention having seen this - the others would kill me..."
What?
I don't remember seeing any covers. Not me.
hmmm, I was going to make some veiled threats to FQuack upon discovering that he's spoilering his own comic, but then I realised that he's got the wife's copies of Luther Arkwright so I better not.
Bolt-01
Do you mean...
Link: THIS cover?
BWAA HA HA!!
Nice one JEB.
Bolt-01 (sweating slighty)
Bwhahahahahaahahahahahaha!
Anyway, I wasn't spoilering - I was merely following Oddboy's lead, and as such only he and Mr. Quack are at fault on the spoilering front. I was merely a pawn in their devious game of diabolical chess.
Bolt: are those the original Luther Arkwright gn's from the 80's (three books)? If so, it's worth checking out the Dark Horse version as there are some additional pages and it's been re-lettered and some of the art touched up.
I wouldn't be surprised if you never see those bookjs again - Mr. Mackay doesn't like returning other people's posessions! I can always pick up the original Luther Arkwright books and Valkyrie Press comics quite cheap, so if you ever need them...
I have to say that was one of the funniest things I've ever seen ...
Jesus JEB!
I nearly shit myself just then!
Byron, whilst the Dark horse versions do have nice lettering, I like these books (Mine were borrowed many years ago never to be seen again) due to the being signed to Mrs Bolt and the pages being nice and large.
Is Hearts of Empire readily available, as I'd like to read that one day.
Bolt-01
Always welcome to have a lend from me if you like. Very different from the original, but all the better for it. Talbot employs a very Italiante-influenced style, changing his art to a much rounder, fleshier look, but you might well say that it's never looked quite so good, especially with Angus McKie's gorgeous colours.
I've actually got a CD-Rom that Bryan Talbot gave me at Bristol last year, which has both books on it, as well as the scripts, pencils, inks, unlettered versions, a 'director's commentary', and web links to all sources referenced in the body of the work (specific paintings that are mimicked, for example). The level of detail will genuinely blow you away - I'll send it on to you if you want.
I know what you mean about the original Arkwright books though - they're worth having just for the covers alone.
Byron, I would love to have a look at the CD, will you make sure you bring it to Bristol with you?
Bolt-01
Will do, Sir!
Am I being unduly cynical or is a huge game of keepy-uppy being played with this thread?
don't (bump) know (bump) what (bump) you (bump) could (bump) mean (bump).
heh heh
Jam Jars, eh? What are they all about?
PVS - nah, if you look there are a couple of points where it was allowed to subside off the board (11 days between posts at one point). Things gets posted as we get the news (thought the Oddboy & Tank Grrl stuff was more of a trailer, I'll grant ye).
I would say that the word "news" was somewhat ill-chosen.
Damnable insouciance, more like.
Although Paul, it's not like people just post on here to highlight or *advertise* anything...
but...
Has anyone seen Bolt-01's blog lately...very nice it is too...
Link: http://lostpropertybybolt-01.blogspot.com/
Hey, you can post what you want, nobody has made bumping threads illegal!
I know...I only joking...but if you want to check out the blog...
Well, I can see Bolt is trying to cop off with Captain America...
Paul - for being no. 100 poster on the thread I'll buy you a copy of FQ#4 at Bristol - or a pint...your choice...
I meant Jon and Gorath though...
Excuse me, but how many pubs is Bolt involved in in Bristol this year?
Are all of these Bristol bound?
FQ4
Dogbreath
Solar Wind
End Is Nigh
Lost Property
Tales of the Contrary
If so, is this a record??
Dan
he's a busy boy...
Erm, rumbled......
There are a couple of strips that I don't know the fate of as well.
Bolt-01
I only managed 4 titles; well below Bolt's simply staggering 6 publications!
And Dankell: Unfortunately I won't be doing any 'pubs' as I'll have Mini-bolt with me for the weekend. :(
Sober all weekend-01
> And Dankell: Unfortunately I won't be doing any 'pubs' as I'll have Mini-bolt with me for the weekend. :(
I was going to make a comment about the state of you wrist muscles, in respect to all that drawing, and the ability to lift a pint glass.
Then I remembered where I was posting and the direction the replies were likely to take, so didn't.
Ah. Ooops. ;)
Dan
How many pubs? Well, Bolt will be involved in
The Railway Engineer
The Corn Exchange
The Naval Volunteer
The Railwayman
and
The Drum & Monkey
...at the very least. There may be a curry house involved at some point.
But Dan, don't be shy, if there's another pub you wish to take Bolt to, you only have to ask.
You're whoring Bolt out to potential pub users now? I thought he was supposed to be the one erroneously accusing other people of being street walkers?
And Bolt - I wouldn't be too sure about avoiding the dreaded alcohol (at least not unless you manage to avoid Mr. Mackay and his absinthe-laden plans for your progeny...)
> But Dan, don't be shy, if there's another pub you wish to take Bolt to, you only have to ask.
Unfortunately my knowledge of the Bristolian Beverage Bordellos is sorely lacking, although Alina and I did find a nice restaurant in a tent last year, and there's a nice bar in the Art Centre by the docks...
I shal therefore by riding on the coat-tails of the more seasoned campaigners wrt where to go.
Dan
"restaurant in a tent"
?!?!?
"Art Centre by the docks... "
I know what goes on down at Bristol docks. I've seen that big boat, I ate a grated cheese sandwhich on bench outside a pub...
I ate a grated cheese sandwhich on bench outside a pub...
Byron, is that code?
Bolt-01
I've been to the city of Bristol before - I'm not getting conned by your esoteric hijinks. I know all about the small press maffia!
No-one's putting rohypnol in my drink...
Yeah, you're not going to fall for that again.
But back on topic. Did I mention the giant killer robots?
SOLD!
Damn!
Well that's put a stiff knee in the knacker's of my hopes and dreams!
Nice pic, by the way.
People With A Very, VERY Special Reason To Buy Futurequake - number 3.
Mr Dribbles.
Is he still here, by the way?
Someone pass the message on, please!
Oooh, nice robot.
As for restaurant in a tent, It was
this oneAnd the bar was the Watershed, so ner!
Dan
Are us specially reasoned people all especiallized for the same reason? If you get my drift...
IN that you all have a special reason to by the issue?
More importantly, are you actually going to reveal at some future point what it is that you're dropping veiled hints about?
How many copies of your magazine of dubious repute do I have to buy beofre the truth is revealed to me?
[Also, I think I may have worked out who your mysterious third guest star is...]
Well, I can now relax slightly, as the comic is all assembled and ready to go to the printers tomorrow.
Then I'll just worry there is something wrong with my formatting till I get the call to come collect.
I'd like to thank all the writers and artists who hang here for not giving away too much of the mag, and remind folks that #5 will be on sale for Dreddcon!
Bolt-01, 2 down 1 to go....
and remind folks that #5 will be on sale for Dreddcon!
Bloody hell Dave, give us a minute will you!
Well, he is a machine...
And here is the cry of the pencil monkey
"B*$t@RD MONKEY HANDS!!"
The printer has a problem with fonts that I can't sort till Tuesday... Hopefully it will all be sortable quite quickly but you never know...
Bolt-01 who is actually beginning to look nostaliagically (Is that a real word?) back on the days when you could slap a comic together with a pritt-stick and a photocopier!
Arse!!
>>Bolt-01 who is actually beginning to look nostaliagically (Is that a real word?)
Nope, the phrase you are groping for is "With Nostalgia"
HTH
Dan
Actually, I believe in deepest, darkest Birmingham, that is an actual word....
if it isn't it should be!
Bolt-01
Printer seems to be sorted, and I even got to see a rough print. Beautiful. lovely repro all through and only some panel resizes to sort and we're away.
Bolt-01
People With A very, Very, VERY Special Reason To Buy Futurequake - number 4 in a series of, you'll be relieved to hear, 4:
Queen Firey-Bou
And no-one's ever going to know why these people have a special reason to read?
C'mon - you've gotta reveal it at some point!
So do we four have different special reasons to by the issue? Or is it one reason that covers all four of us?
I wondered that too...
I think it's because one of you four is a murderer.
In the drawing room, with the candlestick.
It's because -
Oh no, wait, I forgot.
So do we four have different special reasons to by the issue? Or is it one reason that covers all four of us?
Yes and no.
Or should that be no and yes?
Mmmm, not sure, best thing would be to buy a copy I think.
What's the betting Bou never looks at this, despite being One Of The Four and having her own work in the comic?
Couldn't you just wave it in front of her face?
Jovus Grud!
Comments like that are dangerous round here!
Bolt-01
What sick, twisted minds you people have!
It's sad, it really is...
{Futurequack ignores Byron's evident attempt to make smutty innuendo}
Sorry, forgot to say that Bou's art for this issue is... positively incendiary...
"{Futurequack ignores Byron's evident attempt to make smutty innuendo}"
Piss of Jim! I love the way you seem to have convinced nearly everyone I'm some kind of raving pervert whilst you're the bloody overlord of smut! That wasn't what I meant and you know it.
Still (getting back on topic) I am really looking forward to seeing some of Bou's work, since I really loved that cover for Sunny - in the words of Napoleon Dynamite "How frikkin' sweet was that?"
Ed, you will not be dissappointed. awesome. RAC 'bought' some, it's that good!
Bolt-01
Oh, is there an option to buy some of the original art (you could recoup some of your cost outlay through a comission based sales incentive like that)?
If there is anything you like enough, I'm sure the artists would be only too happy to make some money. Don't think that James, Rich or I would want a share though. We've got the strip, thats enough.
Bolt-01
"
Oh, is there an option to buy some of the original art"
Damn right there is!
:)
Good stuff - I'm on the outlook for buying artwork of non-name artists (sorry if that sounds defamatory, as it's not meant to be). I'm just looking for stuff that makes me go "Shit, yeah!" when I see it (I'll be on the FQ table if anyone wants to try and sell me some of their artwork).
Definitely be up for buying some off Bou (if she fancies selling any, that is).
Congrats on getting a mention in Tharg's Editorial this week guys. You all really seem to be pulling out the stops on this one.
Honestly, you cheeky scamps...
We love Tharg, and tharg repays the love.
Ever'body happy!
Not sure I'd agree with that statement personally, but I'll agree for the sake of harmony.
All collected and ready to rock!
Bolt-01
Fellow editor chappies -
D'ya think they're ready for the last revelations?
Go for it!
Bolt-01
Is this one of those Heaven's Gate style cults?
Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
ooommmmmmm.....ooommmmmmm.....ooommmmmmmm
Yeah, let 'em have it!
