Judge Dredd has been named as the 35th top comic book character by website IGN

Shame that the two guys in the accompanying video (who refer to him as a 'British cop') seem to think Dredd was only around in the 90s.

Still, everyone likes a list.

35's not bad for our man Joe.
When asked for his thoughts on the matter, Dredd was heard to comment:
"I'm not here to be popular, creep, I'm here to enforce the LAW! Pestering of a Judge during the execution of his duties - 10 months in the cubes! Move!"
Van Dom! El Chivo! Bhuna! Prof T Bear! And More! All in Vanguard Edition Three, available now. Check the blog or FB page for details!

Uhhh lists. When I get a chance I'll be all over this (mind didn't they do something like this not that long ago... or maybe that was another thing...). But from peaking at the start I'm pleased the Wasp made it in, even if just. Always a favourite of mine who gets over looked... now if Ka-Zar, Metamorpho and Asterix pop up colour me happy

Er, is it not time to use a more updated picture of Dredd?

A Ben Wilsher, a Colin MacNeill ?

A Gallagher?

I'm sick of seeing him represented as a handpainted 90's icon, tbh.

he got beaten by a turtle?

Man alive Joe, time to retire.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Beaten by that shitbag Rick Grimes and that 'last man' gimp with the monkey? Bloody 'ell, Joe, that's worse than the damn turtle! Time to pull your finger out.

I suppose the fact he's ranked so high on an American list is pretty cool, it's shows he's beginning to get his foot back in the door in the U.S. and perhaps shaking of a little of the stigma which the Stallone film put on him, but there a lot of average rubbish above him.

I think 2000AD should do a little mini picture in each issue showing him kicking the arses of numbers 34 to 1.

I think 'he' was just thrown in to show a variation in genre/character and make up the numbers. The hosts have obviously never read a Dredd comic in their lives considering they get the characteristics/time-frame wrong and hardly spend more than 20 seconds on it.

Not bad for an American-centric website I suppose! ::)

Of course, those with a more refined, one might say, descerning taste know old Joe should at least be in the top ten.

Speaking as an American, Joe Dredd is easily makes my top 5 comic book characters list. But then, I actually read his weekly adventures and make a point to read much of his past adventures and have a good grasp on his greatest stories, and what he represents to the comic landscape in general.

Also, anyone bagging on Raphael can eat me, because the (comic) TMNT are one of the greatest sci-fi/adventure comics ever, and frankly would slide in with any 2000 AD fan's tastes easily (I wish GN collections of older TMNT work was more readily available, that stuff is AMAZINGLY fun, and violent). I'd probably put Ralph in my top 5 comic characters too, though probably not ahead of Joe Dredd. But they definitely are on the same tier.

Not a dig at you Adventurer or American's in general, just an observation that IGN is generally pretty lowest common denominator stuff!

Carry on loving the Judge and spreading the thrill-power to your crazy American friends! ;)

Believe me, I try. But it's hard going, my local shop didn't even order any copies of the Free Comic Day issue of 2000AD. You just can't win sometimes.
