Creative Common / New to painting, request for feedback.
« on: 14 May, 2018, 05:10:35 PM »
I got some useful advice from Steven Denton and Crazy Fox Machine for getting feedback on my art, so I thought I’d act on it.

2 months ago I started experimenting with digital painting. Painting is something I’ve been meaning to explore for sometime but I’ve always been very nervous about it. It always seemed like something I couldn’t do. I took a leap of faith.
I’m very much focussing my studies on figure drawing and anatomy right now. I’ve been painting as a warm up before I go into the challenging stuff.

Below are three recent paintings I’ve completed. I’d appreciate any feedback, particularly on tone and colour. Any feedback on structure and form would be great too, but tone and colour is my priority here. I think I need to use lighter tones, and add more contrast.
Please don’t shy from criticism. Be brutal if you want, just keep it constructive please. A year ago someone absolutely destroyed a drawing I put on Facebook, and it turned out to be the most useful advice I ever had.

Process videos are scattered on Instagram for anyone who wants to / is willing to find them.

I deliberately don’t do any blending, as I think it’s too easy to get distracted by finishing something, and it’s not really a style I like. That’s very much an opinion though and also fair game for criticism.

Apologies these aren’t strictly 2000ad related, but there’s a lot of very talented folks on this forum and I thought it would be a good place to start. Plus Steven suggested it 🙂

In the meantime i’ll have a search for other forums / communities / blogs to request feedback.

Classifieds / The Complete Zenith Special Edition - for sale!
« on: 21 November, 2017, 12:01:37 PM »
Hi folks!

I'm selling my copy of the Complete Zenith, Special Edition by Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell. This is the limited edition that was published by Rebellion a few years back. I got no. 145 out of 1000.

I'm selling as part of a clear our and to fund a year of adventure travelling the world.

It's on EBay and I'm listing with a starting price of £90. I know this is expensive, but originally I paid £100 for it, and I've seen someone selling a copy for £600!

It's in mint condition, I've read it once (the thrill power was too much for my poor circuits!). I'll also include a free gift for anyone who ends up buying this.

Get in touch with me directly regards any questions. I'm happy to ship to anywhere in the world. I use Royal Mail as I don't trust the cheaper couriers.

Cheers :)

Classifieds / Clear out of 2000ad Graphic Novels
« on: 15 May, 2017, 12:29:28 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm planning to go travelling in the future, and I can't carry my comic collection around the world. I'm also not into the idea of paying to store items I'm not using.

I have a large number of 2000ad Graphic Novels which I'm putting up for sale on eBay over the coming months. A lot of old Titan editions and a few more recent ones as well. It's going to take me a while to get everything listed on eBay, so I'll keep this thread updated as I post more.

You can see everything on sale here...

Currently on sale are...
The Complete DR and Quinch
Nikolai Dante - The Romanov Dynasty
Killing Time featuring Winword and Cord
Durham Red - The Scarlett Cantos
Slaine - Demon Killer
Strontium Dog - Portrait of a Mutant
Batman / Judge Dredd - Die Laughing (issue 1 and 2 of the original comics, not a trade)
The ABC Warriors - The Black Hole
Slaine The Horned God - Volume 2

All in very good condition. They've been looked after and cared for over the years. I'm kinda heartbroken to let some of these go, I had second thoughts about a few of them last night as they are awesome and the artwork is stunning! I'm hoping they all go to good homes :)

There's a lot more coming too, watch this thread!

Welcome to the board / Alright

Alright folks,

I joined to enter the June art competition and since then I've been lurking and interfering here and there. Folks around here seem pretty decent :) I've learned a few things too :)
I've been reading comics since I was 5, and I discovered 2000ad when I was 12. Not long after that I found a stall in my local market where I could buy boxes of old progs for a few quid and since then I've been hooked.

I mostly work with websites for a living, and have found myself in gainful full time employment. I tend to spend the boring parts of my day job doodling, which my colleagues (and boss) tend to encourage. An idle distraction has quickly turned into a hobby and daily activity so expect more art competition entries from me :)

I also enjoy photography, travelling, and laughing at monkeys.

I used to promote live music in the South East and publish an arts zine, but everyone around here is boring and no one really contributed much, although I sold out every issue without fail. Promoting live music is expensive, difficult, and tiring, and you meet a lot of awful egos (usually the punters). That said every single musician and artist I ever met has been a wonderful human being and for that I am very grateful.

Eternally an optimist. Always having fun.
