Got it yesterday! Was in the comic shop.

Won't rub it in any more than that though.

Good luck with Futurequake & Mangaquake on the weekend everyone!

The previews look great (not speaking for my own contribution there of course) and I can't wait to see the finished article.

Right, it may well be time to start brushing up on my Manga abilities.....I did have quite a phase of Manga in the mid to late 90's and still splash out large amounts of money on Masamune Shirow's work.

Best of luck!

General / Re: Disastrous artist changes........
10 November, 2005, 03:02:38 AM
I'm completely blind when it comes to the faults of certain artists just because they were drawing 2000ad when I started reading at the age of 10 and they made a lasting impression on me (and they are STILL the artists I'd love to see drawing everything!!).

So for me Carlos can do no wrong on Judge Dredd (he was drawing Apocalypse War when I started reading so his depiction IS Judge Dredd for me).
Similarly, only Cam Kennedy or Brett Ewins should draw Rogue (though now I realise the genius of Dave Gibbons), McMahon on Slaine, O'Neill on Nemesis, Carlos on Strontium Dog. yadda yadda yadda.

I'm still living in the past.

I have never revisited the Simon Harrison Strontium Dogs as I remember being distraught at such a tender age when he replaced Carlos.

Thinking back though, he certainly had a style of his own (bowling ball heads or not) - I just wish it hadn't been on Strontium Dog.

I think it's a bit unfair to knock the winner of the over-18 category.

Whether you liked the character he created or not, the bottom line here was that it was an ART competition first and foremost.
They had to pick a winner who could actually deliver the goods when it came to producing a comic strip.

There may have been more original concepts submitted (there may not) - but did they have the artistic/storytelling skill to back it up?  They were never going to pick a more original character at the expense of a poorly drawn strip.

For that reason, if the strip had been badly drawn I think there would be a better reason for complaint here - as it stands I think the winner did a professional job.

I also entered the competition and waited eagerly to see who had won - I would have been sorely tempted to have a good moan myself if the results
weren't good - but I was pleased to see that my own efforts would have fallen woefully short of the winners.

As for the script - BAH! - I already did
'Alien-juve-on-the-rampage-in-Mega-City' years ago (See 'Sphere' in the fan input section, plug, plug, sorry about the lettering - I have fixed it
since).

It should have been me I tell you!!  It should have been me!!

Simon.

The winner of the over 18's art competition did a very classy job I must say - it was very old style 2000AD, which I never complain about - a deserving winner.
Is the story set in Mega City past - as the judges are all carrying Mark 1's?

The winter special gets my vote as a great idea (not that I'm angling for an crack at something in the 2012 edition or anything...) - I enjoyed it.

Perhaps strangely for a new talent issue, the whole thing had a retro-feel to it - particularly a lot of the artwork.

Man, things keep cropping up from the 5 or so years I left tooth in the 90's that I have no idea about.

When the hell did 'Rogue troopers ship' (what ship????) turn up in Mega City one????????

Ah, but if I remember correctly, he isn't aging at the same rate as normal people due to the whole cloning process.  I think it was in one of the recent audio dramas that someone remarks that he still physically passes for a man in his 40's.

So could still have a few years left in him yet.

Help! / Re: Displaying Artwork

I'm just a few weeks away from a redundancy cheque....and then some McMahon, Kev Walker and Dom Reardon pages will be finally getting framed.

Can't wait.

Not sure that Mrs Penter will be equally thrilled.

Thanks for the info carefree.

Yeah, thought I'd heard about the UV glass.
Will they sell this in your standard shops or will I have to seek some specialist online outlet?

Help! / Displaying Artwork
30 September, 2005, 02:27:02 AM
There was a thread  a while back discussing displaying artwork (hence the title), not sure what it was called.

Can anyone recommend frames for pages of comic strip - and whether there is a recommended outlet for specialist frames suited to the purpose (I seem to remember mention of special glass to prevent damage from sunlight)?
