A day to go so if you haven't voted pop your vote in today and I'll rustle up a result in the morning.

For me Kid Knee Caper is a significant story. Not just for the eponymous character in the title but for the way it introduces the trope of using a 'case' really as a showcase for another Strontium Dog. The actual bounty hunt being secondary character work (is that a trope???). Royal Affair has an amusing duck. On that basis:

Kid Knee Caper

Only a day to go and plenty of votes still to come in judging by the numbers so get um in today.

For me neither of these rock my world and in the end one is simply more memorable and on that basis I go:

Sorry Case

VOTING CLOSED

Two similar stories here (well for me) and the battle between them was pretty tight but there was always one thrill just ahead and that one was:

Max Bubba (Ragnarok)

Portrait of a Mutant    3     10
Max Bubba                   3       3
The Bitch                       0      -3
Final Solution                0     -10

This one was always going to go one way but it was fascinating to watch the love for Final Solution a thrill that divides fans but has passionate advocates. So it wasn't all one way traffic. That said the winner is one of the most important foundation stones in Strontium Dog so its little surprise that:

Portrait of a Mutant

takes this one.

Portrait of a Mutant    3     10
Max Bubba                    0      0
The Bitch                       0       0
Final Solution                0     -10

Books & Comics / Re: Shift Comic - new UK anthology
« on: 30 July, 2021, 09:42:34 PM »
Issue 6 landed when I was away and I think its on schedule. If Shift can manage to maintain that as things creep towards normal we could have an ever better thing here.

That said the shifting post openning line-up sees things wobble a little. There is still so much to love. Kora leads us off and remains magnificent, To the Death continues on good form and Soulwind is still fantastic. Shifter continues to get better and better. So the original strips are fine.

Speaking of original strips Hungerville the one off from the first issue returns for an amusing but pretty inconsequential second story. Speaking of inconsequencual the one off Sherlock Holmes feels very much that. The two new ongoing haven't quite gelled for me. Crucible is solid but lacks the inspiration of the original strips and Dega might need a quick recap.

Still a very good read and well worth while but lets see how things go as the line-up continues to develop.

Prog / Re: Prog 2242 - Judging The Judges!
« on: 30 July, 2021, 09:34:58 PM »
Late to the party as I've been away but home now and with Prog.

Dredd - well its grand isn't it. Its fantastiv craft pure and simple. I'm loving Dredd guiding, I love Fransico grinning. Its glorious.

Skip Tracer - Its high octance, it always is, but now it matters - see its not hard is it!

Department K - Yep its greart, setting up the finale nicely with an exciting episode. This story has been a triumph and now all it has to do is stick the landing.

Sinister - Its playing to its critics isn't it. Two episodes of exposition as returns explained last time, this time how Sinister will clash with Dexter. I enjoyed it but its lacking a spark at the moment.

Aquila - Well if your gonna take down Zeus' popps that's the way to do it. Pure Harryhausen fun this episode!

Great Prog.

Yeah good as Mega-lo-maniacs has been nothing says Jamie Smart like Bunny vs. Monkey.

We're just heading home after a brief holiday and I think the boy child is as excited about this being there when we land than seeing the cat again.

Big Bust of 49 V The Schicklgruber Grab  - Bolt-01 Cup - Qualifying - Long: Game 06

Well since we’ve fitted all the games in this week I might as well get ahead on the Region with the most games to get through. So two games from the final group in the Long Region as we play matches 5 and 6 there.

All you need do is vote for your favourite between:

Big Bust of 49 - more info

Vs

The Schicklgruber Grab - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite of these two stories at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easy) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Monday 2nd August and the winner (I’ll count up who gets the most votes basically) gets 3 points towards qualifying… huh…

… there’s a spreadsheet to make following easier… if you fancy. If not, don’t worry just VOTE!!!!

What on Earth is all this?

Why on Tharg’s Earth head are we doing this?

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

One day to go here, get your votes in now and I'll announce the results in the morning.

I agree with a few folks here that state that both these thrills were overlong and neither has ever really done it for me and sit right down in my Strontium Dog rankings. The use of Reagan in The Bitch wears thin after about 2 parts and is a cold rehash the Spitting Image version of a horrible man. That said Ragnarok - as I've always called it - just rumbles and roams into areas that don't interest me for episode after episode. The Bitch however gave us Durham Red and so has a legacy to be proud of and on that basis:

The Bitch

And The Final Solution is fighting back and picking up a decent number of votes, can it create another great shock? Well get your votes in today as we'll know by the morning as I count this one up first thing tomorrow.

My vote. Well ask me a few years ago and this might have been closer, I loved The Final Solution and like Cosh adore the art. That said, two things, on my recent re-read I found Final Solution didn't hold up to my memories of it. And second Portrait of a Mutant is in my top three all time Strontium Dog stories so on that basis:

Portrait of a Mutant

VOTING CLOSED

This one was never going to have the drama of the other vote today, which started this group. However a comfortable victory for

The Rammy

Means its actually snuck ahead of both the two who battled it out in the first vote and tops the table. The question of course is can it hold on...

The Rammy                            3    9
Incident on Mayger Minor    3    1
The Moses Incident               0    -1
No-Go Job                               0    -9
