There was only ever going to be one theme this month. In June we'll be paying tribute to the incredible Edmund Bagwell.

He was one of the brightest stars of last decade or so of progs and his art style was distinctive and engrossing. There's an excellent memorial article on Down the Tubes which gives a detailed summary of his career but contestants for this may be looking to take on his iconic work on Cradlegrave or Indigo Prime, his memorable Future Shocks and Terror Tales or maybe even his amazing work on Ten-Seconders. As ever - Barney has what you need. It's a numbing and horrifying thing to lose an artist so young, but he left a short but enviable canon of work in the prog and legions of admirers. We'll miss him.

There will be a GN straight from the nerve centre for the winner of course, and one for Tharg's Choice -  - all entries will be viewable here, on our dedicated FB page, and also on the official 2000 AD Tumblr and Twitter!

Rules for the art comp are these:

- It must fit the theme.

- You can enter as many times as you like but bear in mind it will split your vote so it may not be worth it.

- All entries have to be constructed specifically for this competition - so nothing you've done for anything else.

- You can enter either here or by directly putting it on our FB wall here: https://www.facebook.com/2000adartcomp/

YOU HAVE UNTIL JUNE THE 26th WHEN WE SHALL HUNT THE VOTING BEAST

Don't think I ever knew his work before researching it after I saw in the prog that he'd passed away. Very impressed with what I've seen and my thoughts are with his family.

You need to read Cradlegrave.

Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

Generally I think we'd err on the side of 2000 AD characters only but given this is a tribute to the artist and not the prog specifically and he had a varied career before entering the prog I can't see that there would be a problem with this.

Good one Tulio_Vilela. I get where you're coming from with that and I was going to do something along those lines. Loved Endmund Bagwell's Kirby tributes.

My tribute with apologies for going off topic and choosing a non 2000ad character (it meant something to me)

Juves 'n' the Cradlegrave Block.

Bagwells work on Juves 'n the hood really caught my eye. I didn't know it was him of course, until it was pointed out to me on this board. The art to Cradlegrave didn't just catch my eye it demanded I take notice. Edmund Bagwell had gone from a good artist to one of the very best. Hi menacing hoodie cover had defined an era of 2000ad and sits among the very best.

I was sad to hear of the passing of such a talented artist, I was a big fan of his clean and distinctive style. I decided to draw Arachne from the Ten-Seconders and I couldn't resist a Cradlegrave hoodie reference.
