FANTASTIC. At long last a realistic costume. I have wanted one of these for the past 34 years. I am definately buying one. I could have done with it last night in Glasgow at the SECC when I took ma boys to see BATMAN live ! I guess it would have turned a few heads :D. Brilliant show by the way , great fun.

Firstly a massive thankyou to everyone for such great feedback !
We've been delighted with the response so far .
In answer to the questions that have been raised :
The prices will be announced ASAP- there are a few items we are still working on. Due to the variations in sizes etc we need to account for, its been quite a tricky thing to work out. We will let you know as soon as possible
As for the helmet size - Again, there will be certain options available which will be announced when the Costume goes live.
Lastly, Dan @ Custom Creations is kindly working very closely with Us to ensure the costume is made to his standards- he will also be designing and prototyping a lot of further 2000 AD products, all of which is work ongoing !

I don't know what the price will be but let's have a look at Wake's helmet (stop it you pervs). It cost over £200 and the Lawgiver £100. If you take into account a set of leathers and all the extra kit, it ain't gonna be cheap.
This is the reason that after KAPOW, I started saving with my special Judge uniform fund!
As said before, those Stormtrooper outfits don't come cheap and they look great.
It's now gonna be our turn to stomp around the cons and dispense justice, Mega City One style!
Now obviously, if this is produced in the materials used for the minty shoot or wake's helmet, we are looking at a price that many of us wont be able to justify, however much we'd like to.
The planet replicas guys know this, im sure- so im hoping that cheaper alternatives will become available.
I'm much more likely to buy multiple judge uniforms (helmets especially) that are made of plastic, as practical, fun, play items.
But whatever form these eventually take, i wish them the very best of luck- the potential for replica and toy things based on 2000AD wotsits is huge, and its magnificent that these particular people have the license.

Wouldn't that be false advertising though considering the images that promote the costumes are more orless the Mintys? They may be able to reduce costs by bulk ordering some items but the unifomrs will not likely be cheap.

Not clear on what we can be sure of. Can't see them doing cheaper versions as that other Hallowe'en costume company are all ready doing something similar. The only cheaper alternative seems to be only buying separate features like helmets, belts etc but they'd still probably be the more expensive bits.
Some while back there was an advertisement on here for a new Judge uniform that I think fits the budget bill, albeit by a different company.The suit was of a black linen type fabric rather than the black leather, and the shoulder pads were cushiony material rather than the hard metal/plastic in the quality gear. It wasn't nearly as good as this stuff, obviously, but seems a viable option for a bit of fancy dress fun for those of us on a budget.
Actually, I think we saw pictures in the thread, albeit the helmet used was the Termight version. The suit didn't look that bad. I don't think we ever saw their final version of the helmet/mask that actually goes with the suit. There were other pictures of an older design going the rounds which looked rather embarrassing, but we were told this version would be rather different.)

Anyway, yeah, I think maybe the suit from the other company and maybe the helmet badge, and lawgiver from these folks might be a compromise for some people.

The Cesar ones... yeah, there was a tweet about them having the helmets come in, I guess there will be a press release with actual pics between now and October for the Halloween market.
I've heard various people saying it should be X amount or Y amount - if you look at other IPs, which have a more mass market even what I'd call the mid-range ones are pricey.

This is a Rubies Boba Fett - Rubies tend to be looked down on by Star Wars costumers, and this one is $899.
My personal take is that there's a market for the el cheapo fancy dress Dredd like the Cesar, and a smaller market for the top end, but I don't know if there's room for something in between.
Anyway I'm sure the Planet Replicas guys will be clearing things up soon enough.

and Mk2! I knew the lawgiver was in the works but I didn't realise they were developing both versions!
The second is my particular favourite, but I'm curious what route they'll take with the first. I've noticed it differs with various artists, just like the Mk2. They all have the long barrel, but sometimes it's quite a slender dainty looking piece, and other times a great bit cannon. And then there's the pointer dial (which strikes me as a bit steam-punk, albeit this was designed way before that genre was established) and the LED type display.
Yeah, I'm not sure on the whole dial thing, it's a toss-up between doing something that's a slavish copy or adjusting it slightly to make it look slightly less like a clock on a mantlepiece.
I think it could be made slightly chunkier, and maybe sculpted like it could be easily changed with the thumb - although whether that's practical or not is debatable...
I think the finish is more important, I know it's supposed to be silver, but I reckon a near black version like the MK2 would look pretty cool.

There was a link on this forum way back where Daniel Carey-George (the man behind Custom Creations, the Minty costumes and Planet Replica) was exhibiting some 2000AD prop replicas he'd made, including Gunnar. I think there was a Lawgiver Mk I in that.

Dan is re-working the MK1, rather than basing it on the old CC one. I saw some previews and it looked great.
I'm guessing the announcement is the full costume, prices etc... rather than anything new.

They're rather sweet, I borrowed some to do the product shots for them.
I didn't but any keys on them though, so I can't vouch for their keyholding abilities :)
I still have (and use daily) a Dredd badge keyring on my car keys and a Rogue Trooper Bio-Chip on my other keys. I would like an upgrade though if they're any good.

How do you rate the helmet CF, compared to the Termight Replicas version?
Who cares if Dredd doesn't like facial hair, he's prehistoric and he had his throat slashed by a girl :lol:
This helmet is superior to the Termight version, I actually compared them both side by side and on my head as soon as I brought the new one home.
The Termight respirator pull down is about a cm wider and overall bigger.
The piece that runs back across the top of the helmet does not finish symmetrically on the Termight one, the right hand edge goes slightly further down the back (I think it's the right side).
The red flashes on the side of the eye slits on the Termight one are larger.
The padding is a basic foam in the Termight one and grey in colour, the padding in the Planet Replicas is patterened and just has a better more polished look to it.
The finish on the Termight one is good but not as good as the Planet Replicas one.
I would still happily buy a Termight helmet and I'm not saying that it's rubbish, it's bloody good but the Planet replicas one is better.
Did the personalised badge come with the outfit, or is it just a Dredd one?

What about the actual size of the fit? I assume that the Planet Replicas helmet is slightly smaller.

looks great. I happen to know a young lass who wants to combine it with a latex catsuit to cosplay Hershey at comic cons. Handy she's in the 'very fit' side of cosplay fems. Now thats what 2000AD needs for PR.

I hoping to convince John Wagner to introduce the Judge character who is five foot seven and stocky built.
'Judge Stockly' - who will allow us people 'sans six foot' to be Judges. Just as the Rebel pilot 'Porkins' allows Star Wars fans a little more freedom 'shape wise' when it comes to costuming.

Tomorrow I'll try and post a few pics of each on my head, so you can compare them better. By the way, I don't think the Termight helmet is any heavier than the PR one, then again that might be because I'm awesome and things like that don't affect such beings like me ;)

As for the build of people wearing outfits and such things. Looking back on my commando course, not everyone was 6ft plus and toned. We had lanky thin people, short stocky people and every shape in between. So long as you have the right mental attitude and a certain level of fitness you stood a good chance of passing (so long as you could do all the other stuff). This means that Judges can be all shapes and sizes, it's all in the mind.
If you don't mind, it don't matter! :)

Yeah, that's my worry as well.
Would love to buy it a bit at a time when I can convince herself that there's some spare cash. But knowing my luck I'd get the helmet badge and belt and they'd stop selling.

I can't see it on the site but they told me that they will be doing a lay-away purchase system. This is when you pay a deposit and then a few payments down the line and then you get the full kit. Probably best to email them about that if you are thinking about it!

At the moment I can't even see that being an option really - I might be able to squeeze a helmet in from Xmas, a belt at end-of-year, boots with some overtime, but the committing to the full package is a stretch

It's not for me though, although I think it looks great. Price aside it would just be wasted on me. I'd feel silly dressing up for conventions, etc**, unless I knew I was going in with a bunch of others people dressed up similarly.

the uniform looks class,and looking at CF's blog the quality and attention to detail is immense.
but it seems to continue the trend of prohibitively expensive merchandise...
in saying that i'll still be getting the helmet and the lawgiver.. the rest of the uniform can be sorted out with some black bin bags and a few well positioned egg boxes

Well it's a lot more than I expected it to be -I estimated just under 1K- not sure many of us will have that kind of doughage to spare in a recession/depression. Seems a lot of 2000AD items are 'boutique', 3A, PR etc.

The last lot of helmets Wake was selling for about £220ish at Kapow.
I never expected them to be below £1000, but by what other costumers have said £1500-£2000 is not uncommon. People who expected them to be £400 aren't being realistic.
It's not like that's the only thing they're selling, there are badges, helmets, prop guns, down to keyrings.
No idea about the delivery period thing.

The leathers are tailor made to fit you and the badge has your name on (or Dredd, or any name if you wish). I'd expect the other bits are going to be made on demand rather than mass produced too, so I was wondering about the turn-around time. 45 days isn't bad, IMO.

As for wearing it, after wearing the Judge Minty stuff at KAPOW, I can now understand why many people do. I found it was great fun, especially with the smaller children and their reactions.
P.S. Just think if they wanted a few Judges for the red carpet on the Premier next year, I'd be up for that ;)

This was my sentiment for Termight Replicas. There will be people who would buy a helmet but not a full uniform, but there won't be anyone who would want a uniform with no helmet.
My leathers cost me around £200 including Velcro shoulder pads, a chunky gold zip and a cloth patch on the breast. They came from AS Supplies (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHAOS-Black-Leather-Motorcycle-Racing-Suit-All-sizes-/250937947051?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Clothing&var=&hash=item801224dac9#ht_4614wt_698) and I bought two sets several years apart: one made for Adam Lavis to promote the Here's Johnny DVD and one for me.
My uniform was definitely over £1000 in total and could still do with some upgrading so I'll be interested if the Planet Replicas components become available separately and I have enough spare cash.

Yep, the fact that Star Wars (or even Marvel and DC characters) have such a huge fan base is very relevant and the numbers help to bring prices down on those costumes (plus pretty much all those costumes are NOT official).
When the first 'screen accurate' Stormtroopers first came out they could cost about £2K, which is pretty pricey considering they're pretty much all vac formed plastic and quite easy to mass produce.
It can still cost you £1000.00 for a screen accurate one. Mine's a cheap one (known as FX) which cost around £700.00 to put together.
For the number of separate components in the Judge costume, a better comparison is something like a Boba Fett costume and a good one of those will set you back £2500.00. The same goes for some of the better Batman or Iron Man type costumes.
But as you say there are a lot more people wanting those, though there are plenty of costumers with that kind of cash who are Dredd fans. Most costume groups I'm in have at least two or three people planning of get their 'Judge on.'
It would be very cool to see a squad of Judges at a convention.
I couldn't help noticing that Slaine gets a mention on the Planet Replicas licenses page. Please tell me that we will be seeing a Slaine costume for sale! I will buy one in a heartbeat, especially if it comes with a ruddy great axe!
And yes, I would dress up in Slaine garb for the sole purpose of harassing a drunken Simon Bisley at conventions. :D

The PR is on the left and as I have said earlier they are both excellent but PR just nudges it. Also if you wanted a Termight helmet I think Wake may have sold out but I'm sure that he can answer that.
By the way in the third pic its just a piece of paper rising up that obscures a tiny piece of the red base of the PR helmet, before anyone asks. Unlike Steve Green my camera skills are basic and I ain't going back to take another pic.

I went into the shop as soon as it opened and the screen for entering credit card details was part of the site, not a shunt into Paypal, and I couldn't see it was secure. However, everything on the site is an https address so should be okay.

There are two sets of Minty ones, but there are a couple more leathers to accomodate different sizes.
They're pretty similar, the leathers in the PR ones are one piece where the Minty ones were two piece.
The belt pouches are slightly smaller on the PR ones and are more like a fake leather material, where the Minty pouches are more fabric.
The Eagle pad on the PR ones has an extra touch with a gold shoulder fitting with an eagle emblem on that.
Not sure what happened to the other one, presumably someone acquired it prior to Rebellion buying 2000AD as I don't think they've ever used it.
It's weird that it's never surfaced since, so it makes me think it was either chucked/lost or stolen by someone.

Yeah, Wake's badges were amazing. The Planet Replicas badges are personalised, though, and that involves a lot more work, as I understand it.
I got the keyring. We just got lockable desks at work, so it has a task to perform. Stay away from my coffee mug and satsumas, CREEPS!

The PR badges are about twice the size to be fair.
Though they are both things of beauty my preference would be the PR badge. Totally subjective of course. I like the sharp corners within the PR design and I was never really a fan of the Robin Smith design.
I seem to recall hearing (at a Dreddcon?) that the Egmont Fleetway costume went walkabouts!

I think, it was Wake's costume that again Sloppy Joe made based on the 6" Judge Figure, or it may have been used for the figure first, I'm not too sure of the timeline.
I seem to remember seeing it at the Brum Custard Factory Con but think it was knicked at some point after that.
What I want to know is what happened to the Judge DEATH costume that someone was wearing at DreddConn 4 at the Brewery in London? I don't seem to remember ever hearing anything about that.

Jon Bayliss (Sloopy Jon) made was one of the sculptors for the Reaction figures (Durham Red specifically) and he made promotional Dredd and Anderson uniforms to launch the figures, which I wore at DreddCon: 1 (http://2000ad.nu/termight/conventions.html) in November 2000 and were subsequently stolen.
It was because of this uniform that I approached Jon to make Dredd helmets for Termight Replicas, but I wanted it better.
The Dredd uniform I wore at Kapow earlier this year had boots and gloves from the DreddCon: 2/Galleries of Justice uniform which I bought, but pads made for me by Jon.
The size of my Dredd badge is deliberately small(ish) partly to keep down the cost, but also the weight. It fits with my vision of what a Judge would look like in real life.

Only thing I don't like on the uniform is the coloured white and blue stripes on the belt buckle, just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the uniform, which is well, relatively 'uniform' in its design. There's no stripes on the chest and helmet shields so why the belt buckle? I never liked it when certain artists did it either -made it look too gaudy- so it's personal taste of course, otherwise it's great.

Did anyone else find it weird how the cutsom badge is cheaper then the Dredd one? I know it says £35 but if you click on it you are actually just paying half as a deposit.
The Dredd badge is cast solid metal, the custom is resin hence cheaper.
Yes, The Planet Replicas badges are much bigger and also fully curved.
We will shortly be posting pictures of the most recent Custom Badge Set order to show it off- it comes with a stand and a posh box as well.
Most of these differences we made in order to reflect the newer style of badge design most artists seem to be using -and it also seemed a little odd to be making a duplicate of another company's old work.
A lot of it is down to personal preferences too, which is also a hard factor to balance.
The full size Dredd Badge Replica is metal cast and plated- however the custom badges are resin cast, CNC'd and then hand finished -all in house, here in the UK.

I think the Dredd one is metal but the custom one is resin which is why they're cheaper.
Regarding the belt buckle, it's just the way some artists draw it, so if it didn't have it some people might ask why it wasn't done that way. They're never going to please everyone.
The first Minty costumes had the gold only buckles, and I prefer the new ones (although it's a newer sculpt as well)
There's nothing stopping people repainting the buckles if it bothers them that much.
If you want some cod-pseudo justification for it, it's the remains of America which is just an afterthought and swamped by fascist-leaning iconography...
A lot of artists draw the chain as silver, but again there's no silver in the uniform elsewhere.
Personally I would have put McMahon stars on the shoulder pad

I got the Dredd badge keyring. It's really beautiful. With help from the Judge Death badge keyring from a few years ago, it is making my keys very heavy. :)
Dredd badge key ring arrived this morning. As others have said its bloody massive! Almost a bit too big.
Damn good quality though. Very impressed.
Yeah, I won't be using them as 'key rings' for keys I actually carry around unless I want to de-bollock meself.
I thought it was a tiny bit large at first too, but I haven't lost my keys since I started using it. That an the fact it's so blingy.
I got a couple of extra's which I'm going remove the key ring from and use for other stuff.
I may finally start a sketch book for conventions and mount one to the front of that.
It's a really nice piece.
While most of the stuff on that site I find rather pricey* that key ring does seem a good deal if it's as big as many of you say it is, what with being gold-plated and all.
I plan to get one... although I may wait for next month. I've been spending a bit more than I should lately.

I think the Large PR helmet is around the same size as the Termight one, I'm sure John (Commando Forces) posted a side-by-side somewhere, the one he had was the large.

I imagine you get better vision from the Termight one? The eye slots (or whatever they're called) look slightly wider to me.
It's interesting how just the shape of the eye slots gives the helmet a slightly different feel. Termight, ornate, PR, utilitarian.
Yeah, they're slightly wider but I imagine it's more your peripheral vision that will be affected - I don't imagine either are going to be that great vision-wise.
The most obvious difference is the more bling/metal badge on the Termight one and the slope of the respirator.
Compared to other sci-fi helmets (stormtrooper etc.) the visibility on the PR Dredd lid is very good. I haven't tried the Termight helmet.
As Steve says the helmet edges are in your peripheral vision The nose cross is hardly noticeable. Try putting three fingers close in front of your nose, that's about the worse case scenario.
I haven't seen the finished custom resin badges in the flesh either, that metallic finish looks amazing!
To Pete Wells, loving the judge badge you recieved . I think I will order one of my own now that I have seen yours. It will either be Judge Burns or Fire?
Vision wise the Planet Replicas is better. The nose piece is less obstructing, the smoked glass is slightly better to see through and the peripheral vision is exactly the same.

It's got a gritty, real world feel and the detail in the weathering is superb.

I went for the painted version as it is the same as the badges used in Judge Minty, which really impressed me. I thought the plated version would be too shiny for my tastes but I'm sure they look great. To me the painted one looks more like a badge that would be worn while a Judge is on the streets of the Big Meg.

I took a bunch of pics for the PR guys of the Dredd badge as well, which is a hefty bit of kit, similar plating but solid metal. Sure they'll go up soon.

Just received my Planet Replicas costume on this side of the pond and thought I'd throw some pictures up as their doesn't seem to be a lot of pictures out there on the net.
I've wanted a Dredd costume forever and again am happy with it. Overall everything looks good; a few nicks and dings. The biggest issue is the belt buckle came without the red/white stripes painted and a mold bubble took a bite out of part of the buckle (both of which I'll repair later).

Good stuff - bearing in mind how camera flash isn't the most flattering for any costume.
I've had chats with the PR guys about weathering and stuff, Personally I think the gold pads look better with a layer of black wash to knock the gold back - which is what we had on the Minty pads. I think they've gone the right way where people can tweak it to their own preferences though.

Might be an idea to see if the leathers can be taken in a tad - it's a bit of a tradeoff getting them comfortable enough and easy to get in and out of without looking baggy.

Glad to hear that you like the holster; I was sort of on the fence about it. I was expecting the holster they showed in the pictures on their website and was surprised to find that I had gotten something else entirely.
It's possible, but CF's is the same and that seems to be fit pretty well. I think people tend to order a bit larger than they think they need, just in case - I guess it's easier to get them taken in than let out.
The problem with the 2-piece route is that it's easy for the jacket and trousers to move apart - you don't have to worry about that with the onesie.
Pros and cons for either routes.

The holsters on the prototype suits, used in Minty, came to pieces when exposed to the riggers of Judging :D and constantly have to be pieced back together. I think they've probably gone for something more usable.

A black wash isn't a bad idea at all. Any brands that you'd recommend that I could find here in the States that work well on foam rubber?

I think I know what you're talking about. Do you have a picture to illustrate just in case?

The holster is on your thigh, lift your thigh parallel to the floor, look down and you can see the pouch on the top of the holster.
It's very easy to slip the blade between the pouch and the main body of the holster to cut the thread.
No suggestions on the black wash really - best bet is to ask on the replica prop forum, or ask the Planet Replica guys if they have any suggestions.
I know people have found wearing a bodysuit which handles the heat works better than just regular cotton under the leathers - It can get pretty toasty since the only bare skin is the lower half of your face.
We also used sweatbands on the helmets, although this was prior to ones having the same amount of padding as the production ones - still might be worth a look if it gets a bit hot under there.

Yep, it's much better than a TK, by a long way. And you won't even know you've got it on compared to C3PO, which I understand is very restrictive?
I know a few costumers, who own, or have worn one and they say Dredd is a breeze in comparison. I've got a TK and a Biker Scout and Dredd is much easier to wear.Though the head sweatband is a good idea if you can fit one in.
I'm still saving up hard for my costume, but I dont think I will be able to have it in time for the movie in september. ( gutted ) Will just have to do a few more extra shifts or win a decent ammount on the lottery to own one of these awesome costumes.

The 3PO isn't restrictive; it's a nightmare!! lol It took two people an hour to bolt me into the suit, it's like being put in a straight jacket then locked in a trunk where you can't hear or see anything....good times.

Re: the black wash, I recently gave my Termight Replicas Dredd badge a good going over with some black boot polish, then buffed it off with a cloth. Looks great - the black has settled into the recesses and really brought out the detail. Not sure how well this would work on the pads, though.

You can get something called rub 'n' buff in various finishes which does a similar thing, it's like a wax which you rub on and buff it to make it semi-permanent.
You can get it in black but the silver works well on props to bring out edges.
Yeah, it's funny how the only knowledge in the US is the Stallone version...

One other thing - we've found maglight holders work well as loops to hold daysticks on the belt.
The daysticks are fairly easy to source - there are some good looking escrima martial arts sticks, which look great but they're a bit hard if you accidentally clock someone with it - you can get foam ones which are better for conventions, but aren't as shiny...

Thanks again for the compliments guys. Quick note for anyone who picks up one of the PR suits; cover the snaps on the holster with something. From taking the gun in and out of the holster all day, one of the snaps must have caught the eagle logo and snapped off the tips. Pretty easy to repair, just a heads up.

It's a standard sized helmet with the badge plated.
As I understand it, originally the respirator badges were only in the same finish as the shoulder pads, but people have asked for plated respirators as an option - they're still resin just plated the same way the badges can be optionally plated.

I didn't request the helmet badge to be plated, it just arrived like that. Just assumed that was the standard finish.
My mistake - they must have just switched then.
I know the first few had a duller metal finish.

Well, my outfit is on order. The chaps at Planet Replicas seemed very friendly, as I was confused over the belt size, and had to fire off a few emails before submitting my custom sizes. I get the impression they are very busy - it makes me curious about the number of people ordering uniforms!
Out of interest, can I have a show of hands if you have the uniform, or have ordered one? We could have enough for a large squad of judges! A comics convention or other gathering where we turn up in force would be so drokking cool! :o
I don't know offhand how many full uniforms are out there at the moment - there are some overseas in the States and Ireland as well as the UK.

Yeah, they ain't cheap, that's for sure. I had a lucky break in two ways. First, I've lost shedloads of weight and put on some muscle over the last few months, so I should look the part. Second, work gave me a nice bonus after I worked my backside off for them, which paid for this outfit. My partner flipped, but I softened the blow by paying for a nice holiday in Tenby too, and she's gotten used to the idea now!

Nicklaar - that helmet does look amazing! The only possible way they could have improved it is if they had somehow managed to get the zigzag flash going down each dark lensed bit, but I'm at a loss as to how it could be done.

I haven't seen anybody else in the states at cons with one of these suits. My guess is most of them were in the UK due to the currency exchange and the US dollar sucking someting fierce right now.
Also I wear mine when I go grocery shopping and just errands around town.
About the visor flash thing - there's no way to do it unless it's fixed on the visor (which would look shite)
Since it's all down to the reflection you need that shape in the environment, like a large window masked out to make that shape (or a softbox with the same)
I'm planning to try the softbox route for some photos, but as with anything reflective, the environment dictates the look heavily.

True. It would look weird on the PR stuff; painted reflection on a "real world" comic outfit.
It would work stylistically perhaps if looked at as a graphic pattern on the lens versus a reflection; and the suit was painted in flat colors so you looked more like a walking comic.

White boxers with red dots, as per SJS Judge Quincy.
However, some kind of motorcycle under suit would probably work better, as long as it doesn't have a collar.
I finally got around to actually putting on the costume I've got.
This is one of the prototypes, but the only differences visible on this photo are the Lawgiver and belt pouches, which have both been improved on the production versions.
This is also the medium helmet.

The leathers have a 3/4 lining inside and so I wear a pair of hill walking (thick) socks and a pair of my Dredd pants from ASDA (long since sold out) and that is all. The only time you get hot is when inside and stood still chatting to people and the visor starts to mist up, otherwise it's not too bad.
When I've walked around the streets the breeze keeps your face cool and the leathers don't seem to hot up too much but I'm sure if you ran about constantly it would become uncomfortable quickly.
At the end of wearing it I turn the leathers inside out and hang them in the conservatory to get the heat on them. The boots need an airing in there as well and the gloves do get damp inside and take a while to dry.
The helmet is an excellent fit and as many who wore it at Bristol last Saturday evening, surprisingly easy to see out of. I wear a sweat band with mine for stability and also to absorb the copious amounts of sweat.
One final thing, when you have it on you need to act as though all those other cosplay characters are beneath you as you walk around the cons and the reason being, because they are!

I would agree completely. Walking around like you own the place makes wearing the judge costume that much more fun. :D
I also find the suit easy to wear. This might put me in the minority; but I found that I didn't really sweat at all while wearing the costume. The helmet has better airflow than most and the suit breathes more than you'd think.
Nope, just your standard Star Wars, Sci-fi and Film costume group.
Though we do have 3 Judges in the club ;)

So your helmet is the "MEDIUM" - like the smallest size of the PR-helmets?

Yep, I think 'medium' is the smallest size Planet Replicas do. It's about as high as the medium but narrower.
I'll try and stick my medium and large 'hats' on and take a couple of photos.

Minty, im confused. I'm 17. I think my head is normal size, like an ordinary guy. And Replicas site says, Large size seems to fit most adult heads. But large size in your photo, seems too big to me. Which one should i take?
Personally, I went for the large. My head measured an inch under the recommended for an extra large (24.5 inches).
I'm glad I did - for some reason I find the large more aesthetically pleasing than the medium, based on the pics above. Also, it's reassuring to know if it is a little too big, a sweatband sorts that out.

Yep, my head is about 22 and 3/4, so quite a bit smaller.
I think the 'medium' looks best on me, but the 'large' is also okay, if padded properly.
That's the beauty of Planet Replicas having three sizes to choose from.
Yup - very good idea to actually sell helmets that probably fit. 'One Size Fits All' is an awful idea for head ware.
Commands Forces (and anyone else who regularly uses the outfit) can I ask - when you visit conventions and such, do you dress up before you hit the road, or do you get there and ask the convention organisers for somewhere to change and stow your civvies?

At Demoncon3 I had my own changing room, helps that I know the organiser. This meant I could change a couple of times and also enjoy the con as a punter.
At Hi-Ex and Thought Bubble there was a changing room for the Stormtrooper lads and I just joined in with them. These rooms are all lockable and away from any attendees.
If I went to the ones at Excel I would just park the car with the back against a wall near a quiet area and change there (unless I knew about a changing area and I would enquire about it).

Never wear the costume to a con; I always change in the parking garage.
Personally I'm leery about leaving personal items in the changing areas at cons. There's been more than a few cases of personal property getting stolen in those back rooms.
If you're thinking of getting a Planet Replicas Judge costume (or and kind of pro standard cossy), it might be worth joining one if the many organised costume groups.
These groups are often invited to conventions etc. to entertain the public etc. They get free entry and a prerequisite is that the event can provide secure changing.
These groups require costumes to be 'cleared', which means they have to be to a very high standard. I know that people with Planet Replicas Judge Dredd costumes have already flown through clearance at a number of these groups. I think most of these groups would love to have a squad of Judges to call on!

That's quite impressive, my head is about 24.5 inches and it is, often literally, a pain - hard hats don't fit (bit tricky when you are doing geology, drunk) and when I went go-kart racing they dug out their elephant man size helmet, which was like being fitted with a Medieval torture device.
One of my PR shoulder pads has a small bump on it since I received the costume. It's slowly been driving me crazy and was wondering if anyone had an idea of how to fix this or if it's something I just have to live with.

Mine has been delayed due to 'unforeseen circumstances'. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but I find it so hard to wait patiently when I come on here and see your wonderful uniforms!!!
Anybody here know what color/brand of paint that was used on the gloves? There's a spot on one of my gloves where the paint is cracking on the vinyl and I was hoping someone here could clue me in so I could do some touchup work.

I've got a can of paint for touch up. Though my costumes take more stick than most ;) I tend to use it very sparingly as a few people have commented how much they like the weathering.
Fighting crime is a hard job. Just look at that pic of Joe with the impact point on his body armour, I bet he doesn't get that changed quickly ;)

Yeah, I've seen both as well and these are great.

All the Termight Replicas are really great items. The Lawgiver though, had that "plastic-toy" feeling but it did have a real aluminium barrel and metal eagle which are really fine details. The Termight badge, helmet and especially the belt-buckle are also very excellent replicas - love them a lot! :thumbsup:
But I've got to say that the Planet Replicas helmet, badge & gun has that extra wow with the size, weight, detail and sharpness makes them feel more real-like :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Well actually thats 35USD. The cost for costume and helmet is 2270GBP, which is a mere 3561.86USD. Oh, the Manta Tank would be easier to control than a child.

Yes, they're about the same size. The Dredd is one solid heavy shiny metal badge, and has a slight curve to it which looks nice. The custom badge is a lighter flat resin badge, this one is goldplated.

They look much more intimidating and brutal in photos than the Lawgiver. People love a photo being beaten with them. At Thought Bubble last year a little old lady ask for a photo being hit, it looked brilliant, unfortunately I was in costume and could take a picture.

Handy hint for uniform owners - if you are drunkenly heavy handed *ahem* when you take the left shoulder off, and tear the velcro from the foam underside, take it to Timpsons! Their shoe glue does not melt the foam, and there's no removing that velcro now baby! They saved my Halloween.

There is a great one on ebay from a guy in South Africa, totalling £66 inc p&p, only problem is tht it is unpainted.
My previous efforts at modelling and painting resin kits make me a little hesitant to try - I was fairly pissed off when I ballsed up a £15 model kit.

Nothing that cool. Just a cheap FX kit with a modified Master Replicas lid. It's quite old, before RS brought theirs out. If I were buying one again I'd go for RS.
I often pop by their website. Certainly they have some very nice bits on show to tempt.

I need on of the uniforms so bad! Saddly they are a little (read: a lot) out of my price range. Like I've said elsewhere I'm thinking of a Judge's uniform being my first (and last) attempt at cosplay.
Still putting some ideas together though.

I thought this showed the uniform up well. Its a promo pic the organisers of the Cardiff Tattoo and Toy Con put together for me (I'm providing them crowd control next month). They've adapted a Steve Green photo. I thought it was a nice blend of original and film Dredd.

Cons are a bit hectic to do any shoots (as you know) but would love to do a dedicated shoot at some point, rather than something shoehorned into another event.

Thanks - I always get a bit frustrated when you see photos that are just lit from flashes blasting straight from the camera - it's not very flattering to the person or the costume.
It's always nice to set up flashes off the camera, or bounce the flash off a wall if possible.

To be frank i'd take any Dredd world fan film with the planet replica crew involved. Aesthetically it's the absolute biz.
Thanks, I can't see it happening though - I might tinker with doing CGI Dark Judges just to see if it could be done, and what it would look like up against a PR-style Judge, but producing anything substantial is a lot of time and money to put into something that you're not going to recoup.
Even on my side of things, it doesn't cost money as such, but it does mean I'm not working on paying work if I'm working on something Dredd-related.
Not a complaint, just the way things are.

Was having a nosey around their website and was interested to read about the helmets going up for sale soon. I've got my fortieth coming at at the start of next year. This will be going on the want list...assuming I can resist that long! :)
I had a gander at the prototype a few weeks back, and the new helmet badge is lovely looking - it's a similar metal finish as the Movie/Underbelly badge.
There have been a few tweaks to the shape - it certainly seemed to have a bit more depth so noses pressing against the visor is much less of a problem.
Even though I'm not really much of a collector, the helmet is one thing I really want.
Judge Bane lookin good there (can he not cube that marvel shite-hawk beside him). I'm deff investing in a movie helmet. Z

I'm occasionally found stareing longingly at the lawgivers but find them too expensive. This though? Maybe...
I suspect it's because people who are more familiar with the 2012 costume might not know what a daystick is, since it's not used in the film.
It's a handy alternative for cosplayers though.

I've been watching the PR site for a months and months (year+ even?) waiting for the new batch of helmets to be made available for order. Did it happen and I missed it, or are we still waiting?
They had some at Thought Bubble.
