Does anyone know why the word 'Acclaim' sometimes showed up as graffiti in some early 90s Dredd stories? I've spotted it several times in both Book of the Dead and Frankenstein Division while reading Case Files 20, and it's done in the same way every time it appears despite the vastly contrasting artists  (Dermot Power and Ezquerra).

IndigoPrime

Presumably some subtle advertising for the company behind a Dredd arcade game: https://youtu.be/i2E5_8QCykQ

Modern Panther

Not sure why it appears, but Power still does design work in the games industry.  I think at the time he did some work for Acclaim publishing, so he might have just been hiding ads.

Arkady

THAT'S where I recognise it from. The old Mortal Combat Acclaim logo.

Acclaim also had a hand in the console games released at the time of the '95 movie's release.

It was paid product placement, plain and simple. IIRC, the video game company paid to have its logo appear in strips.

...and a few progs later, in the Manchu Candidate, we get some 'Johnny Cage 4 Sonya Blade' graffiti.

Pre-production art from the '95 movie.

I've been wondering about that for years. Many thanks Bish-OP.

PsychoGoatee

Pretty cool, doesn't get much more 90s than Acclaim.

Dash Decent

There was certainly some product placement going on in "Dredd vs Death" too - Red Bull, Playjam and at least one other company, I seem to recall.
