You can use anything I said in the original announcement thread.

(I kid, of course. But if you enjoyed the first strip then hopefully the rest will do it for you, too. There's some cracking work in there)

How can one be excluded from a target demographic that is explicitly "all ages"?

Liam Johnson has done bits before, but if I'm honest not enough for me to remember the name (sorry!). I will after this.

Liam was one of the Thought Bubble talent search winners in 2019, he's doing very well!

I dipped in and out throughout the day as I was working but just wanted to say a stunning effort by Su and the team. Jim's comments at the end of the Rok panel about how nice it was to chat with fellow creators again also hit home and really made me miss the whole scene.

The next convention I get to will surely be a day of conflicting emotions, the joy of being in that environment again with the sadness of not being able to wonder over to chat to Dave during quiet moments. To be honest, I don't know if I'm ever going to table at one again (I'm moving back more towards Illustration than comics these days, though will happily still take work from Tharg should it arise) but I'll definitely be making the effort to go to more and bloody talk to people rather than being my usual introvert self, regardless.

Stunning cover art by the Robinson droid and I foresee a fantastic career ahead for Anna Morozova. Hopefully Tharg can keep hold of her skills for a while as I can think of many US titles she'd be a great fit for!

Mm. It's interesting how Clarke's story never came out widely at the time. There was lots of shit at the time about Barrowman, but never Clarke. All we heard was that Who was "toxic" and Eccleston walked because of that atmosphere.

No idea where I heard it but there has certainly been word out there of Clarke being an unpleasant person to work with for over a decade, at least. Obviously nothing to the extent of what's come out, but I remember being disappointed to hear he was a prick as I liked his performance in Auf Wiedersehn, Pet.

Thanks for sharing the link to the fundraiser. I've donated and shared, as it felt only right to given his influence on my comics career (I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the prog and beyond without all that time spent working on stuff for FQP).

Don't want to say too much about the nature of his passing but I'm sure many of us have stared over that precipice and know only too well how much suffering it must take to not turn back, which is what's utterly heartbreaking. That's not how I'll remember him, though - that will be where he seemed amongst his happiest, selling comics from behind a table with a beaming smile!

I was only emailing him the other day! How can this be?

That's the weird thing, isn't it? I sent him a project update mere days ago for something I was working on for him that went unanswered and even now I keep expecting I'll hear back. Seems unfathomable.

Really can't take this in. Dave was the guy who gave me a chance. He gave a chance to so many. I can say wholeheartedly that I would not be doing what I do for a living if not for Dave. He was a warm, kind, funny and a genuine good guy. A huge presence if the UK scene, both publications and convention scene. Really hard to take this awful news in. Going to miss his warm character at pretty much every convention I've been to. Its just not going to be the same now is it. I'll raise a glass to you mate at the next convention.
Rest in peace Dave and my deepest sympathies to all his family and friends. X

Yourself, Steven, I and all other artists who honed their craft in the playground that Dave made possible will have to raise a glass to him at the next con we're all together at.

I don't know what to say. Dave has always been a nurturing presence in small press and always lovely to chat to at conventions. No doubt it hasn't sunk in for myself or any of the fellow comic readers/creators who have interacted with him over the years but thanks for letting us know, Mike.

Man, what a huge loss.

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...
26 April, 2021, 11:32:30 AM
On a whim, I watched the Super Mario Bros movie again at the weekend as I saw it was on Prime. Must be the only other time I've seen it since it first came out.

It's..... not.... terrible? Not exactly a Super Mario story, for sure and the fact it's set in a dystopian world is bizarre for that franchise but, hey, I like dystopian fiction.

It's not GOOD by any stretch but it falls firmly into "enjoyably bad" for me.

I've been diving into a few shows that I've heard raved about for years, these past months and they've all been blinders.

Fargo - not seen season 4 yet but loved the first three. Some extremely memorable characters.
Russian Doll - good fun sci-fi, reminded me a bit of Vonnegut
Mindhunter - not finished yet but good stuff
Marianne - only just started this but holy shit, even with it having a lot of ideas I've seen elsewhere, this is one hell of a creepy show. I'm deliberately avoiding watching this one before bed...

Haha you're alright, Pete, don't sweat it.

Cheers to all who voted, thrilled to make the top 3 with what was only my second cover. 👍
And thanks to Chris for the banging colours.

Steven's done plenty! A couple of Time Twisters I believe, a Thargs Thr3ller, a recent Anderson in the Megazine and he did the cover for the first episode of End of Days and a few other things. Great to see him on Dredd duties.
