Yeah, quite a few parts of the book are vastly descriptive. Dahl gives you an amazing mental picture of all these amazing places.
I really don't think anything could be as pointless as the Psycho remake - this certainly doesn't look much like the original at all!!

Actually his first villain was Alfred Stryker and his assistant Jennings. The Joker didn't show up until a fair way later. I get your point, but he's more a 'distinct' Batman villain, and his intrinsic ties/parallels with Batty's life weren't really cemented till Alan Moore wrote The Killing Joke. Since then he's been the most 'personal' baddie.

The Joker has sod all to do with Batty's origin unless you're Tim Burton or Sam Hamm.

I don't understand this established formula thing? Yes, it has new villains in. If it didn't, surely t would get unwelcome comparisons to the old movies which it's trying to distance itself from.

What else is the formula thing governing? It looks totally different tonally and pacing wise.

Chistopher Nolan is doing it.
