It seems to be a request for investment in the 2000AD films company. Oddly for a new flotation, 50p ordinary shares are being sold for ?1 per share, with a minimum investment of 2000 shares (i.e. ?2000 pounds).

There's no prospectus as yet, so no indication as to which films (if any) are intended to be made by this company, how many shares are to be issued or (if this company is going to be making films) what stage those projects are at, distributors pn board, etc, etc.

In other words, IMHO, it's too early to say whether this is "interesting news" or not.

I'm willing to enter a joint investment with other boarders, if anyone's interested.

I'll need one thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine more people.

This sounds disconcertingly like the makers trying to get a cash advance to get their project off the ground.  Which suggests, surely, that they've failed to establish any other financial backing.

Hasn't something like this happened before?  I seem to remember two or three years ago there was a British sci-fi movie project which invited fans to "invest" (ie: send them cash optimistically); they managed to shoot a couple of scenes before going belly-up.  It received a lot of coverage in SFX at the time; can anybody remember what it was called?

I'm not saying that I don't trust the producers; I'm sure they're doing their utmost to get the movie(s) rolling.  And Dog Soldiers proved that it is still possible to make a successful British genre movie.  But I'm not holding my breath, and this announcement certainly doesn't instill me with much confidence.

I heard varying things about that venture.
Seems like loads and loads of things went wrong that was their fault and not their fault. It was closed down when they weren't far off getting most done.
I think one problem is that it costs millions to get anything done nowadays and you just can't finance a proper venture that way.
Blair Witch only did well because a company picked it up and marketed it well.

Troutster..

I'll certainly be up for a tenner. Perhaps mor e if they were to accept a joint bid.

What if some put in ?20 or ?50?

As someone who's unlikely to run away from this site, I'd be willing to coordinate a %in %out split on an investment. I think multiples of ?20 would be most appropriate. The more you risk, the more you might gain if the films are ever actually made.

I would put in a couple of hundred maybe. There was a company a few years ago that used this method fronted by Brian Blessed that made a couple of (ok)Scottish history dramas ('Chasing the Deer' and 'The Bruce') which were alright films but their respective bugdets were about 0.5M pounds each. You would not get much of a JD movie for that unless it was all set in the cursed earth perhaps (and even then filmed on location in Lanarkshire on the coal slag heaps).

I'm up for it, and I'd quite happily chip in ?50

Put me down for ?50 as well, assuming we ever get it all together.

Id also make a donation of at least a tenner, maybe more dependant on my monetary status and wether we get something organised

OK then.  This seems like it could work.

Put me down for ?50 too Wake.

So far that's

?50
Wake
HRH Something Fishy
McNulty
Demon_chicken

?10 (might need to be encouraged upwards)
King Troutman
Strontium Doug
Matt
Hexen
Oddboy
Moly
Slippery Jim

which makes ?270.

I might go higher too, depending on what the prospectus reads like.

i would be part of this as well
im in for fifty pounds sterling,
im not so bothered about the returns myself, just the idea if this took off, it might help with publicity which can only  be good for rebelloin and in turn tooth,.
win win for  all of us.

Screw it - put me down for ?20 (Bastard bank cashpoint stole a twenty the other week so I guess I'm used to losing that much!)

Wake - would it be possible to add a box on the sign in page for the ammount you want to invest, & then have a page showing the results - that way we can easily see how much is raised & how much we've promised etc kinda like an 'official' poll?

IIRC, a lot of the investors in LEGIONNAIRES had the opportunity to appear as extras in the film.  Maybe they could do soemthing like that with whatever they plan to produce with this budget of ?410?

On the current budget, we should be able to get "stars" of the calibre we see on "Help, I'm a celebrity. Get me out of here!"

I've just made a poll for it. However, since people kept going for ?50, I've made the three lowest steps ?10, ?25 and ?50.

As with other polls, you can see how much you've voted for and what other people have voted, but not who else has voted (though I can retrieve this from the database).

Cheers,

Wake

OK, OK. Ill sit on 25 at the moment. But if all goes I could be persuaded a little higher.

I'd gladly throw some cash there way if I could have a Judge (or block maybe) named after me.

Of course, I may decide to up the contribution if prospectus is, like,  awesome (dude) ...

Any chance of having an online prospectus?

Well, I've chipped in ?100 - and I'll have to see what the prospectus has to say before committing myself (or upping any investment).

Any word on when details would be forthcoming?

Okay - 4 of you crazy chickadees has clicked on the ?500 option.
That's enough for the ?2,000 minimum, so what happens now?

I'm down for ?50, because it doesn't pay for a king to be too extravagant.

I have to keep my money for new hospital, and orgies and things.

BTW, since it was your king's idea, I expect our joint effort to be named after me. Arrogant? Moi?

But well done to Wake for taking on the responsibility.

Nothing until I get a prospectus, which won't be for several weeks. Then we think again, I email details to people who voted and then I start handing round the 2000AD Online collection tin.

I'd imagine that we could put in as much as we get together. The minimum is 2k but I'd imagine it wouldn't have to be 4k for more.

With the total standing at ?3640 (I think), we ain't that far off the four grand as it is ...
