Why would you compare two quarters with one? The economy has grown faster in the six months after the referendum than the six months before.

Have you looked at the chart? What does the line look like?

What about Q1? I'm comparing the six months after the referendum with the six months before.

Why?

If you're really interested, you could look at the longer-term trend:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdomesticproductgdp/timeseries/ihyq/pgdp

I don't see an uptick. I'd be happy if there was, but it's not there at the moment.

Economy growing faster after the referendum than before.

Growth in Q4=Q3=Q2. i.e. there was no increase in growth following the referendum.

In any case, ONS statistics are only useful in the long term.

I'm not sure reading it from the start will make it any more comprehensible. Good luck.

I just look at the pretty pictures. I'm sure it will make sense in the end. Maybe.

It's a long time since I've seen it, but is it The Hudsucker Proxy? It does feature both a company and a clock!

It's all on their website, all you have to do is look.

I don't see it.
https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdomesticproductgdp/bulletins/grossdomesticproductpreliminaryestimate/octtodec2016

Quote from: ONSUK gross domestic product (GDP) was estimated to have increased by 0.6% during Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec) 2016, the same rate of growth as in the previous 2 quarters.
Growth during Quarter 4 was dominated by services, with a strong contribution from consumer-focused industries such as retail sales and travel agency services.
Following falls in Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2016, construction and production provided negligible positive contributions to GDP growth in Quarter 4 2016.
UK GDP was estimated to have increased by 2.0% during 2016, slowing slightly from 2.2% in 2015 and from 3.1% in 2014.
GDP per head was estimated to have increased by 0.4% during Quarter 4 2016 and by 1.3% during 2016.

That doesn't suggest an increase in the rate of growth. Which statistics are you referring to?

In any case, I would say it's far too early for the result of Brexit to be apparent in ONS statistics.

I'm glad to hear a TPB is under consideration. This is an excellent comic that would appeal to a wider audience. Get it into bookshops!

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Just back from a 25th anniversary screening of Candyman, along with a Q&A with the director, Bernard Rose. The film stands up well, and I picked up on the social commentary that was lost on my teen self when I watched it all those years ago.

I also learned that there were murders in the projects where people had come through the bathroom cabinets. It wasn't just an invention for the film. Creepy.

I read the first issue of this when it came out and rather enjoyed it. After the subsequent delays I decided to get the other issues once it finished. At which point I might as well wait for the inevitable Comixology sale.

I can't help but feel the publisher has shot themselves in the foot here.

Film & TV / The Lego Batman Movie
04 February, 2017, 05:25:12 PM
Just back from taking my daughter to the cinema and I think the Lego Batman Movie might be the best superhero movie of the last 10 years. It skewers the inherent silliness better than Deadpool while still being a very satisfying action movie. Older viewers will also get a kick out of the many references to comics and films past. Definitely worth a trip to the cinema, even if you don't have a young kid.

It's also a brave move on Warner/DC's part. I wonder if the parody is so effective that it effectively means that they'll need to find new ways to use the character.

General / Re: First prog you ever read?
01 February, 2017, 10:21:59 AM
I started reading in 1990 and have never had much interest in a prog collection (particularly during my long gap as a reader). As a kid I could always read "Best of" and Titan books (available in the local library) for the stories I'd missed.

I read the prog weekly these days but often give it away to friends afterwards. My "collection" is a haphazard stack that would horrify some of you guys. Apart from anything else, I don't have the space for a full prog collection. If there's a story I particularly enjoy then I'll buy the book if and when it comes out.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Extraordinarily good, as one would expect from this team, but how cool were those wild boar effects! Pleased to see TLS playing a fictionalised version of himself, and getting a location fee too!  ;)

I watched that last night. It was brilliant and surprisingly touching.
