Where do they make the Megazine:  in a portaloo outside?

A sequel to Leviathan?  Tell me more.

As for one-offs, I highly rate Snow/Tiger, 13/Thirteen, From Grace (was it called?) and Skizz (the sequels never happened in my world).

And Shakara.

And some of the ones other people have mentioned.

The best, though?  That's tough.  I can't choose a single one.  I am impressed with the quality of recent one-offs over the past few years of 2000AD, though.  Not everything has to be a never-ending saga.  Memento, by Talbot, was a tour de force, in my humble onion.

That's what Anderson thought when she channeled the power of the murdered populace of Deadworld way back when.

Lost the films?

I've often wondered if Tharg has a full collection of 2000AD's or not.

I'd buy it.  You could have comparisons between early and late work where there have been dramatic changes in style (where an obvious example would me Mike McMahon.)

I was also pondering recently how a book of classic covers might be groovy.  This would probably require some sort of text discussion to make it viable, but then again maybe not.

I also thought something like the 2000AD Diary but without the diary.  I could never write in it anyway:  it seemed like sacrilege (sp?).

I think what happend afterwards is best left to the individual reader to ponder on.

What might work would be various flashback tales, although to a great extent the key episodes in each character's life has already been covered.

Plus, of course, all the heroes in Watchmen are takes on already well established superheroes such as Batman, Superman and Captain America:  so it would be a bit derivative.

I always end up back at the conclusion that Watchmen should be left alone:  it went as far as it needed to.

Blimey.  This highlights for me what a difficult job it must be to edit 2000AD.

Just comparing things on a very basic scale of shit / gold, I'd come up with the following from the strips you mention:

Gold:
13, TSDM, Snow/Tiger, Synammon (2nd instalment), Red Seas, Shakara, Button Man, Savage

Shit:
Ahab, Lobster Random, Bec & Kawl, Asylum, Atavar, Valkyries, SCB, Vanguard

We're almost diametrically opposed in taste.  Just an observation.

It really depends who your audience is supposed to be.

This was very much a cartoon:  aliens with horse and squid heads; nuclear explosions in the middle of a city with no obvious repercusions or visible angst.

If you compare something like 13/Thirteen with this, you'd opt for 14/Fourteen over Third City Blues any day of the week, surely?

However, if it was a choice between utter crapola like Ahab and SCB II, it'd be SCB every time.

It was a good story, but it's not a great story, and I don't see how it ever can be.  I'm not sure if it has legs.

Return to Verdus?  I don't think I remember that one.  Next you'll be telling me that Cutie was reinvented as an insane love-bot and the whole thing was set in a theme park.  Yeah...right!

Aye - there was no reason for Friday and Rogue to be in the same universe:  although the idea that there were multiple wars with multiple gene trooper experiments is an interesting one.

There's just no reason for them ever to meet.

Damn - I agree with you all.

I did used to wonder "when's Tor going back to Mercy Heights, then?"

Imagine if...before he'd left Mercy Heights he'd somehow transferred the personalities of 3 of the other characters into various parts of his equipment (no snarfing!)

I can't decide if that's the worst idea I've ever had or if it would've been entertaining.

Bring back Mercy Heights!  The campaign starts here.

I've nabbed this question from the "Mark Millar" thread.

In 2000AD and the Megazine, whose output (art or script) has been consistently good?  Never a duff moment?
