Quote from: Dash Decent on 18 April, 2023, 04:45:06 AMThis fat bloated nose, this is the distracting one.  It looks wrong.  It's not a nose I'd pick.

Around the time they brought back Johnny Alpha (as a slightly different character in a different universe, with an eye for adapting the story for TV, if anyone remembers that), It occurred to me that Jimmy Nail wouldn't be the worst Johnny Alpha ever.  I know he should have a posh accent, being Future-Farage's son, but as i say, it was a different universe.

Just catching up on my Dante readthroughs - loads of fun as always, thanks guys.  And yeah, I remember rooting for Viktor around this time in the progs, as I'd forgotten what a nasty, vicious little fecker he really was.

Really enjoyed that podcast - thanks again, Eamonn.  There was a lot of really interesting stuff about Peter Flint I hadn't realised or had forgotten.  When I get round to abolishing the whole system of aristocracy, I might make an exception for him.

I'd forgotten about that cover - what an absolute classic.  That's Inaba again up the front, isn't it?  And that Arnold Rimmer lad behind Halo Jones must be Bill Savage.

It wasn't the first time Fabry had drawn Dredd grinning inanely, either.

(The article this image came from claims that it was from a story where a woman from MC1 gets godlike powers - I was sure it was a man.)

I do remember watching I, Claudius happened not long after Rome, and the last emperor of the latter was the first of the former - can't remember his name though.  So I watched them back to back and despite the massive drop in production values it was a straight run of Roman history.  Great stuff; though I've since learned that Caligula's depravity may well have been exaggerated a lot - it was just that people didn't like him much. Still an absolute masterclass in acting by John Hurt, of course.

I keep expecting the Angel Gang to turn up - it's a universe made for them. Well, apart from the fact that there's already a universe made for them.

And yeah, the Dead Man definitely crossed my mind too, though he smiles a lot more than Dredd ever did.

Hang on. Forgive the double post but obviously I don't remember him THAT well... I could have sworn he was played by a pre-Yosser Bernard Hill.

I loved I, Claudius and remember Yozzer the Gaul well. He's Sláine's dad Roth, surely? Or not Sláine's dad, as it turned out long after Pat Mills had lost me with the introspective and self-righteous direction the strip took.

Anyway, it wouldn't be the only time I, Claudius influenced the prog.  As most of us probably know, Judge Cal is clearly John Hurt as Caligula.

I've had similar experiences with more than one counsellor, sadly.  Prescribing generic, one-size-fits-all 'solutions' to very personal problems, then getting frustrated when I reported that they wouldn't suit me or fix the problem, or indeed didn't fix the problem.  The worst was when some guy decided it was moral advice I was looking for rather than psychological advice, then got very annoyed when I explained how my moral code was different.

I'm only on the second episode but I really like it.  I'm not especially familiar with the game but if you wanted to make a series about the Cursed Earth it would be pretty close to this. And that opening scene in the first episode- feck me, that was terrifying.

Yes. Yes it is.

13th

It really is. One of the best series ever I would say. I watched it twice in  a row back in the day, the second time with the DVD feature that showed captions onscreen explaining the historical basis of each scene.  Never learned so much history in my life.

Great stuff - looking forward to this.  I didn't read much Warlord but I had an annual, and the dialogue keeps me and my brother amused to this day.

Random thought bubble: 'Good job I've hidden this knife up my jolly old sleeve.'

There was also a page of facts about WW2, one of which involved a Britsh Tommy asking an Australian soldier what he was soaking his boots in. 'Urine, mate!', was the alleged reply, as if that's what an Ozzie soldier would call it.

My mistake - cheers for correcting me. Really should have got my facts straight before posting

Self-immolation for the worship of a weirdo conman without a single redeeming feature.  What the hell is going on?

Not in a comic, but from my old flatmate in my student days when I pretended to stab him: 'MY EYYYES! AND  NOW MY BRAIIIN!'
