As this thread has sprung back to life, here's my tuppence worth on the subject.
Firstly, it's an absolutely beautifully put-together package and if the rest of the series are up to the same standard then I'll be buying the lot. I love the smell of new books in the morning.
I had read most of these stories before in one reprint format or another, but I got rid of all my old Eagle/Quality reprints many years ago so it's been a while. I agree that a lot of the early stories seem pretty ropey nowadays but it's pretty interesting to see how some of the background has developed even over the course of that first year, e.g. Grand Judge -> Chief Judge. To be honest, despite it's rather unexpected message of tolerance, the Robot War doesn't do it for me. I don't think it really hits its stride until Luna-1.
I also agree with whoever said it would have been nice to include a summary title, writer and artist for each story. That may have been a good use of those blank pages before the splash pages. Mind you I would also have liked to see the episodes of Bonjo From Beyond the Stars or whatever it was that filled up the blank half-pages.
I do have a couple of questions which some of you might be able to answer.
1. Why the hell is there an X-Wing fighter in the middle of one of the stories?
2. Bill Ward, who gets the extremely curt bio "provided art for The Mega City 5000", clearly wasn't much of an artist. How did he get the gig and what was his day job?
3. Is the image of Dredd in the spacesuit on page 4 of Luna 1 War the worst thing Brian Bolland's ever drawn?
4. When's the next one out?
