Dan Abnett our favourite writer without intials JW has left a public post on Facebook letting folks know he's had a ruptured appendix and is in hospital. He seems in good spirits, based on this post and comfortable BUT maybe he's like us to extend a little more love and respect given that since we last lauded him he's co-created another top thrill.
I do wonder if he's pretending so he appears more human rather than the unstoppable writing machine he seems to be BUT if you post anything you'd like me to pass on to Dan please drop a note here and I'll send him a quick e-mail.
Dan I wish you a speedy recovery from the southern point of Africa. Your writing is one of the reasons why this lock-down period is made much more easier. I cannot wait each week to read your wonderful stories.
Dan, you have been one of my favourite writers for a lot longer than it is really polite to mention. All the best with your recovery and best wishes to your family.
Dave off of Zarjaz!
All the best Dan!
Get well soon, Dan!
Hi Dan, your work has been a joy to me for many years now, despite (maybe because of) the excruciating puns, and I believe you have about 37 ongoing series to get back to writing so I'm wishing you the speediest and most comfortable of recoveries. All the very best to you and yours!
I can only hope he gets well soon, and that the other dozen or so Dan Abnetts don't feel the loss too much when they're writing new scripts.
Thanks for the thrills and all the best for a speedy recovery. I sincerely hope you wont need an a-pun-dectomy.
Get well soon Dan!
I've never experienced a ruptured appendix, but my wife has, and her tales of it are legendary. You have my sympathies, sir, and sincere hopes that they deal with it quickly and you're back on your feet in no time. All the very best to the justified winner of the Godpleton Cup!
Steev
Best Wishes to Tharg's MVP.
My heart goes out to you, Dan.
Stay safe and get well soon.
Best wishes Mr Abnett, here's to a full and speedy recovery.
All the best and Get well soon Dan
Get well soon Dan!
And if you need something to occupy yourself while you're lying around doing nowt, you might as well scribble out another book of Kingdom. Just to keep busy, like.
Hope you'll recover soon, Dan. Take care and all the best!
Dan Abnett's name on a book is the closest thing you'll get to a cast iron guarantee of quality.
Get well soon and get back to your writing!

You know, I might be willing to err on the cynical side if it wasn't for the fact that a ruptured appendix is what took the late, great Steve Dillon from us.
Considering how dangerous one can be, perhaps it might be understandable that he and his family are more than a little shaken up by the experience.
So a great big "Get Well Soon" from one and all ...
That being the case then, an outpouring of support, appreciation, respect and affection is the very least we can do, no?
Get Well Soon Brother Abnett!
Get well soon, Dan!

Fact!
Sorry Dan, but this is unacceptable. You simply don't have time to be ill, we need you to keep churning out top-class thrills at an unbelievable rate for the prog and meg. Back to work that droid!
I'm assuming "ruptured appendix" is code for Rigellian Hotshot following letting celebrations for the "Not Wagner" writers competition win interrupt the Thrill production - let this be a lesson for all droids! More seriously, hope you get well soon!
Very best wishes Dan, your work is of the highest standards of Thrill-Power so hoping to see more from you soon!
Get well soon Dan :)
Extra oil rations upon your return!
Your appendix was full of wrong!
I had mine taken out before it burst (still no fun), but I've heard it's much worse when it manages to go Krakatoa.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I hope and trust you are better soon Mr. Abnett!
You are one of my favourite writers in 2000ad and comics in general. I look forward to reading more of your stories in future, but no pressure! Rest up and concentrate on getting well. God bless.
Appendix, sure; may his actual pen never rupture! He uses it too well.
I'll send these Monday morning so if there are any more messages for Dan please pop them in and I'll add them.
For those not on FB and/or not friends with Dan, he posted a photo of himself yesterday, sitting in the hospital discharge lounge with his MacBook Pro on his lap, typing away. Clearly, it'll take more than exploding internal organs to slow up the Abnett droid's output.
I genuinely don't know what the Nerve Centre would do without Abnett, apart from his insanely prolific work rate (has he taken a day off in the last 25 years?), I can't think of another writer with his hit-rate for producing outstanding high concept ideas that almost invariably become instant classics.
Glad to hear he's doing fine, had my heart in my mouth a bit seeing that thread title.

Thanks for the update Jim hadn't seen that.
From the title, I was worried that Abnett and Tharg had parted ways. Imagine my relief when I found out the title is just in relation to a severe medical trauma.
All my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, Dan.
Wishing Dan A the very best in his recovery. How he manages to combine such quality with his work rate simply boggles my mind. I hope he gives himself the rest he needs though!
Best wishes Dan - I hope you return soon !
all the best
My own appendix ruptured when I was six so I can sympathise with Dan. Best wishes to him.
Best wishes and all the best for the future, Mr Abnett Sir!!
Just to say I popped all the comments I got by this morning into a Group Greetings card (I'd used it to organise a card for someone leavign from work and that worked well) and so its been sent to Dan.
And Dan has kindly take the time to reply
QuoteColin - can you please thank all the forum members for the card!
Back home, a bit sore, but doing okay. The messages were very much appreciated :)
