Film & TV / Newsnight - Alan Grant & Dredd
09 February, 2008, 11:02:24 AM
Just stumbled across a torrent from Newsnight Scotland, 29th January '08, on UKNova. Alan Grant is interviewed about the way our society seems to be heading towards the Judge Dredd world. It's an eleven minute piece, and Grant is interviewd for five minutes.

You'll need to join UKNova to access the torrent.

Maybe someone could put it on YouTube?

Film & TV / The Lost Room - Sky One
24 January, 2007, 09:27:59 PM
This is a heads up for an enjoyable 3-part sci-fi mini-series starting tonight on Sky One at 9pm.

I'd say what it's about but it's probably best not to.

Even if you feel the first half hour or so is a little dodgy, just stick with it as it really picks up and is well worth your time.

The first episode is repeated tomorrow (thursday 25th) on Sky 2.

News / Big Finish 2000ad Audio Dramas no more
22 January, 2005, 06:39:33 PM
Just spotted this news on the Big Finish site:

With regret, we have to announce that with the release of Judge Dredd - Solo, the 2000 AD series of audio dramas has come to an end. Sadly declining sales have forced this decision upon us. The eighteen releases will continue to be available to purchase and subscribers with outstanding orders will be contacted shortly.

But as one door closes, another opens as the Dredd miniatures game, http://www.bigfinish.com

Off Topic / npower TV ad. look out for it!
08 December, 2004, 11:53:27 PM
Just saw an advert for npower featuring a mum and two teenage boys sitting on a sofa. One of the boys is wearing a brown sweatshirt with the word 'COUNTRY' enblazed across the chest. Unfortunately due the folds of the garment and the angle of the opening shot, the letters O, R, and Y are obscured revealing a completely different word that takes up the entire bottom right of the screen. This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of (or perhaps even stir up) 'public outrage'. Look out for it.

Help! / Name That Film! ?
01 September, 2004, 11:04:51 PM
Does anyone know the title of this film?

It's about a woman on a train at night who believes she sees a murder committed in a house as the train passes by. That's all I can remember!

It might be in black & white, and probably made in the fifties... I think. Thanks.

Off Topic / A sense of Loss - Freakish?
18 June, 2004, 06:02:31 AM
I've realised tonight that I seem to remember everything I've ever lost. And so I present...

Everything I Have Ever Lost

1) A die-cast dump truck when I was 3 or 4. I accidentally brought home the nursery school's toy truck instead of my own. I swapped them the next day, but the fact that this is the only thing I can recall from my time at nursery is interesting.

2) A toy F1 car I swapped with an older friend when I was about 8. I think he got the better deal.

3) A luminous cutlass for a ghostly pirate action figure. I think it must've slipped down the back seat of my dad's Cortina.

3) A ?5 note lost in Brum in my early teens.

4) A box containing every issue of DC's Superheroes comic, and two Not the 9-o'clock News books that my mum threw out in a misunderstanding about which boxes to throw out! Happily, many years later I managed to replace the comics.

5) A load of Marvel comics (Super-Adventure, Spider-Man, Rampage, Kung-Fu/Death-fist? etc) I agreed to sell to a kid at school who never got around to paying me. Fucker!

6) A necklace with a cross pendant that changed colour with your body heat. It was the 80s!

7) ?1 I lent to a friend while performing at the Edinburgh Festival, and never saw again.

8) Part of the facia of a Walkman on a college coach trip to London.

9) A Wrestlemania 10 video I lent to a friend, and never saw again.

10) A pair of sunglasses in their case that I left on a BA plane coming back from LA.

11) A ?20 note which today I either lost or was short-changed. Not amused!

Since I expect there to be a lot of 'collector' mentality types around here, does anyone else harbour a sense of loss for misplaced possessions? Or am I simply odd?

If you caught tonight's Richard & Judy you'll have seen some 2000ad progs as one of Dominik Diamond's auction purchases.

I did't catch the exact details of the challenge he's undertaken, but I think he and a couple of others have to make a profit from auction sites. Link below.

Off Topic / Horror Channel
02 May, 2004, 11:38:13 PM
Just thought, I'd give a heads up as I'm sure this'll interest some people here.

It may have escaped your notice, as it did mine until now, that the Horror Channel begins broadcasting tomorrow evening on Sky Digital, channel 330.

It looks like they'll be showing everything from Universal horrors to Hammer and European movies. Plenty of dross, to be sure, but also a lot of good stuff.

As a fan of Peter Cushing since childhood it's great to see that "in August, Cushing devotees can look forward to a special season of the actor's films on the tenth anniversary of his death."

Also Stephen King's version of Darkpla... er I mean The Kingdom begins tonight on BBC3 at 10pm. No idea if it's any good but I'll be surprised if it's as bizarre as the original.

Jock's doing some work on the Batman Begins production.

Now you know who to hassle for photos of the batsuit! :)

Off Topic / WARNING: DvD Multiplayer
19 October, 2003, 08:03:17 PM
If you play DvD online through Gamespy Arcade don't give anyone your CD-Key.

Last night in Gamespy Chat someone called Moxicus was trying to convince people 'they'd' detected a warez game and 'they' wanted people to provide the last four digets of their serial as proof.

Naturally we all just took the piss, but if you're a newbie to this kind of thing you should know that this is total bollocks. Don't give out all, or even part of, your CD-Key.

Suggestions / DvD Demo
17 September, 2003, 07:57:33 PM
Demo.
Want!

Am I going to have to buy PCZone tomorrow to get the demo? When will GAME have the demo for download? Where else will have the demo online, and when?

I suggest adding another category to posts in time for the game. So along with 'Suggestions, Off_topic, etc' we'd have 'DvD Game'... or something.

Off Topic / Movie Alert !
24 July, 2003, 12:16:39 AM
You WILL like this!

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie is on ITV at 11.20 tonight. It's a higher budget version of perhaps my favourite comedy show ever in which one man and two robots take the piss out of very very bad movies.

'This Island Earth' is perhaps the best 'bad' movie the show has ever tackled, and may be something of a cheezy sci-fi classic, but it's still worth watching it being ripped to shreds.

Coincidentally, the Sci-Fi channel (which used to show episodes of the MST3K TV show), ran this movie in its original form at the weekend.

Also, the excellent Battle Royale, in which a class of school Japanese children are transported to an island, given weapons, and instucted to fight to the death, is on SCI-FI on midnight Saturday. It is repeated next Wednesday.

Just thought I'd post a heads-up on a friend's site. He collects comic artwork and, as he's a web-site developer, has put together a site where people can share their aquisitions with the world.

There's some nice pencil sketches there, plus inkwork sans speech-balloons.

I never could get the hang of third paragraphs, or a comfortable way of ending a post. :)
