General / END OF YEAR SPECIALS

JUST CURIOUS,(AND EAGER TO START MY FIRST EVER THREAD), WHICH END OF YEAR PROG (PROG 2000 ONWARDS) IS YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY? i STILL THINK IT HAS TO BE PROG 2000, THAT COVER, THAT GENUINE SENSE OF EXCITEMENT THAT THIS WAS THE SINGLE BIGGEST ISSUE OF 2000AD EVER, THE RETURN OF JOHNNY ALPHA AND THE ABC WARRIORS, THE WONDERFULLY NOSTALGIC LETTERS PAGE, DREDD ARRESTING JOHN WAGNER FOR WRITING VIOLENT COMICS, NIKOLAI AND JENNA FINNALY GETTING IT ON AND THE BEGGINING OF THE TSAR WARS, THE PROLOUGUE TO GLIMMER RATS, THE 2000AD CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH, ALL OF IT CLASSIC STUFF. THE OTHER SPECIALS HAVE BEEN GREAT BUT NONE MATCHES THE SENSE OF OCCASION THAT THIS PROG HAD, I CAN REMEMBER WHEN I BOUGHT IT, I TOOK THE EVENING OFF WORK JUST TO READ IT AND IT TOOK ME THREE WHOLE HOURS, A TRADITION THAT NOW TAKES PLACE EVERY YEAR WHEN THE END OF YEAR PROG COMES OUT, AND THIS YEAR THERES TWO OF THE BUGGERS,SHOULD TAKE ME A GOOD 5 OR 6 HOURS OR SO.

General / Re: Johnny is dead. Or is he?......

I think that was supposedly the original intention in The Kreeler conspiracy, but it seems with Roadhouse Wagner backtracked into more of a 'missing adventures' style scenario. I'm sure I read an interview with Wagner in the Meg, which stated that the second series of the "re-interpreted " strontium dog would detail the first meeting between Johnny and Wulf in full, could be wrong...

General / Re: Scream!

my favourite scream story was the one where the kid go's to stay with his aunt in some southern england hicksville and notices everybody in the town has plaster casts on thier arms and legs, one night he notices the entire town gathering at a stone circle and a completely bandaged figure emerges, said figure removes his bandages to reveal the form of an ant-like alien, then the townspeople, including the kids aunt, remove thier plastercasts to reveal alien limbs underneath, appently the "seeds of sirius, have taken root" and the invasion of earth is due to begin, the kid is discovered, captured and knocked out, he comes round in a hospital with...you guesed it a plaster cast on his leg....the final panel is of the kid screaming as two alien nurses remove the cast to reveal....an ant-like leg underneath.  Ok,so its not exactly the twilight zone but it scared the living shite out of me as a 10 year old. I wish scream had continued, imagine if it was still published today, i think it would be  sort of like a sister horror title to 2000ad, same creators, same level of maturity to the stories, if scream had continued i can quite easilly imagine stories like necronauts and red seas finding thier way into its pages. wouldnt it be cool if rebellion could aquire the rights to scream and start printing scream volume 2.

Loved the line about the locals in the pub not being model citizens but also not being total scumbags either, showed a more understanding streak to dredd and also reminded me of the locals in my local boozer

i myself enjoy reading my progs whilst downing two cans of stella in my room just before going clubbing on a wednesday night. I dont know weather this is classifiable as nasty or vigilant, possibly a little of both methinks.

"REGARDING BLUE PETER OR EASTENDERS...IF YOU NEED A VOLUENTEER TO DO THE MAIMING, i COULD BE AVAILABLE...BUT WOULD A LOPPED FOOT BE ENOUGH TO STOP CONNIE'S WINEING"                                            NO....BUT A CLAW-HAMMER MIGHT BE USEFULL....WITH THE EMPHASIS ON THE "CLAW" PART NATURALLY......

Cheers for that, I'll have to try and get hold of those progs somehow. Chief judges really dont have a good survival rate do they, I wonder how long poor old Hershey's got left, I'm not so sure if Wagner would actually kill her though seeing as how she's one of Dredd's most famous supporting characters, suppose stranger things have happened though. Anyone else think Hershey will end up buying the proverbial farm ?

I dunno old Colins not looking so healthy these days,he was always on the porky side but he's now reached critical mass, he's surely aged the most out of all the doctors in a relatively shorter time, perhaps he's trapped in a time vortex or something....
