What a loss to us all. Remember Kev was integral to the look of early 2K, long before he became the magnificent weirdo among magnificent weirdos that contributed art to the comic.

This is shit news. It breaks my heart that someone so creative and idiosyncratic should be taken so young.

Not sure if this needs it's own new thread but if you could share this wherever you can think it needs to go:

The family of our beloved Bolt have asked me to share a JustGiving page for his funeral.

Also - and I cannot emphasise this enough - don't be afraid to reach out if you're in pain and forgive yourself always. You are not alone ❤

That last sentence. I was, just over a week ago. I did reach out to a friend. It helped so much.

Men find it difficult to seek and accept help. Understand that and take the step. It may save your life.

If it's online, count me in... otherwise, I'll raise a glass with you in spirit.

I'll certainly be raising a jar in his name tonight, and would certainly joint a virtual Shedcon if one is to be forthcoming.

Count me in. (Time difference allowing. This part of Canada is five hours behind the UK.)

That's me, third from left. Increasingly accurate depiction.

I'm second from left. Pass the bellywheel.

I return, land-walking fools, to pay grudging tribute to this departing minion of the mighty king fish!

And that's quite enough of that nonsense.

Dave Evans, Bolt-01, was one of the good guys. He was a creative person, down to his DNA, who was unstoppable in his enthusiasm and acceptance of everyone.

He was driven to create his own work. I'm sitting here with a pile of comics: Zarjaz, Dogbreath, Whistler and more. As I opened the bag they were in, I also found a sketch of Tharg that he did, unasked, when sending me some comics. He just loved drawing and telling stories. It didn't matter how many setbacks he encountered. He just kept creating.

I'll never forget the delight on Dave's face when he first showed me the character "Troutmann", a kilted fish-like Stront who teamed up with Whistler and loved to bellow "Never forget the Trout is evil!" I didn't quite know how to react - I was overwhelmed and thrilled that he'd do such a cool, fun thing. I'll always treasure the experience, and always remember the conversation in that student union building in Oxford, where the Dreddcons happened.

And he encouraged others. In accepting collaborators, Dave only ever asked them to share his love for comics. As this thread shows, he mentored and supported so many people.

My love goes out to everyone in our community today. I also send my best wishes to Dan (who I nicknamed Mini-Bolt, leading Dave to take me aside at a con and thank me for including his son in our online banter) and the rest of Dave's family. I cannot imagine what you're going through now.

What a loss to us all. I'm crying at my desk here.

The only down I can see is you are using a known despot for an article editor.

'Never forget, the Trout is evil.'

And watching you closely.

Hey, folks, now that we live in a science fiction dystopia many of us are spending their days on video calls. Increasingly, that creates opportunities to add a fun background... so of course I started to think about 2000 AD art.

Are there any resources available? I'd love to use a background that shows Mega City One, Nu Earth or other places? I'm also conscious that most comic art is focused on characters, and images used as background should probably not have figures visible. So just using our favourite 2K art wouldn't work, I think.

Hive mind - any thoughts, links or other contributions?

I just found time to read this and loved it. My favourite strip was Hell Machine, which was creative and disturbing, and the Hellman story was really strong, too. I love Ennis war stories.

I'd buy this comic every week!
