Books & Comics / IDW Judge Dredd. Why so confusing?
08 October, 2016, 11:14:34 PM
Hiya folks!
Being the 2000AD/Judge Dredd completist i am i try and support any ventures outside the Prog/meg i can/afford.
I loved Matt Smiths IDW Judge Dredd Year One, and IDW's Judge Anderson and Rogue Trooper. However I just dont really enjoy their take on Judge Dredd at all. Mega City Zero is such a chore to read. Having recently caught up with gaps i had in the Dc comics Judge Dredd of my teens I have no say i much preferred reading these (although they much maligned) than the IDW 'Mega City 2' or 'Mega City Zero' sagas.
Surely Judge Dredd can be presented better than this for the wider comic market? Discussed this with a few friends earlier and they think much the same. Non Dredd heads also have heard the same things said.
What do my new friends on here think?
It just occured to me that im buying this title out of loyalty rather than anything else. There are interesting ideas in there don't get me wrong but IDW publish some great stuff and i think Dredd should be so much better than this!  :)

I have read the whole series of these recently and cant recommend them highly enough. Beautiful artwork and storytelling one would expect from Bryan Talbot. The alternate history twist of the Napaleonic War really gripped me from the start, and the anthropomoric characters are ingenious! The humans as the 'dough faces' fighting for their rights has to be seen!  :)

Another trip down memory lane folks!

I used to love watching this short lived but very cool show with my late Dad. It was about future law marshalls in a post apocalyptic USA that patrolled the badlands in their own supertrucks with built in Car and helipcopter (I kid you not!) Called 'Highwaymen' it focused on Sam Jones character and some aussie guy with blonde spikey hair (Cant remeber his name but all i know he was an ex aussie rules football star.
It also starred that sexy babe out of 'V' and tuvok from ST:Voyager.
Created by the late great Glen A. Larson it was a mix of Knight rider, Airwolf, Street Hawk and more intrigingly Mad Max! Had a very western feel to the show and mixed many scifi elements with fantasy. Cool show but inexplicably never released on Dvd. I cant be the only one that remembers this?  :)

Hi folks been chatting in the movie thread about modern westerns and just remembered if anyone remembers this! Showing my age I know.
For the Uninitiated it was set on a future earth mining colony names New Texas and the star of the show was Marshall Bravestarr a native american Sheriff sent to the planet to keep the law. With his shamen spirit guide he could summon the animal powers - the eyes of the hawk, strength of the bear, and speed of the puma!
It was the last Filmation cartoon the same guys that created the masters of the universe TV series.
I was and still am an avid fan of cartoons such as thundercats, masters of the universe, transformers et al!I have to say though 'bravestarr' was my favourite with the whole sci-fi western setting and it was ahead of its time with its respectful depiction of native americans and the titular hero of the show!  :)

Film & TV / The Incredible Hulk TV series
11 May, 2016, 07:30:56 PM
Working my way through the box set of this at moment and I'm enjoying it just as much as when I a kid with my dad. For me Bill Bixby made this show with his portrayal of 'David' Banner! A fantastic actor who went before his time (sadly like my own father).
I cant believe Marvel made two Hulk standalone films and still cant get it right.  :)

Hi folks,

Are these worth reading? Got a couple of issues of Dc's 'Judge Dredd' back in the day but never caught up with series. Was round the time UK newsagents were banned from selling american comics on newstands. Think it was due to some licensing issues or something? :)

Hi Folks,

New to the forum after intending to join for ages. I am just turned 35 I got into 2000ad and all things dredd related by way of my cool Uncle Noel who used to leave me copies of his 2000ad when over from Emerald Isle, in a similar manner to way in which he got me into so much cool scifi fantasy related stuff. It is my mission to get my Godson Jack (aka Son of Uncle Noel) into same cool stuff albeit he slightly young for 2000ad at mo being 5 and a half!  :D

I've been a regular reader of 2000ad and judge dredd megazine since the early to mid 90s and ive been subscribing to both titles for the last 4 years. I also collecting and loving the mega collection.

Into all things sci-fi and fantasy related, aswell as my beloved Celtic and Spurs! :)

best wishes,

Kieran
