...because my eldest boy has been caught wantonly reading many issues of old Eagle and Quality Dredd and Rogue reprints of late- and earlier this evening had his nose buried in the Extreme Edition: Shako that I'd given him after he brutally tore the centre pages out. When asked if he liked them, he gave me a run down of his favourite Dredd stories and asked to borrow one of my Case Files. His bedroom is now furnished with a copy of CF6 and Stront Agency Files 1.

And yes, we've had that important father/son chat. The one about breaking spines or tearing pages out.

Put my back into helping a dear mate out with a work project for two solid weekends in a row, and by way of thanks she gave us a shopping bag bursting with the top-quality makings of a stonking steak dinner, with spuds, onions, mushrooms, pepper sauce, yummy red wine, and chocs and super coffee for after. Bloody marvelous.

Some people really do get it.

Just before Christmas my dad, who's 78, had a really bad bout of pancreatitis caused by gall stones. I had to get him an ambulance at two in the morning and he spent Crimbo in hospital. This morning he's been to the specialist and they told him he doesn't need surgery (which he was dreading) just to keep an eye on his diet.
