I'm not in favour of reinventing Dredd, y'understand, but I should point out that it's already been done in the American version. I haven't read much of it, but it started out before the Atomic Wars with the Judges and a regular police force both in place, the President of the USA and Fargo still around. While it was a brave idea and a good attempt, it just wasn't very interesting.
