I would usually trot out amusing hyperbole at this point to illustrate my point and say something like "he could dress in a thousand pound suit and sing God Save The Queen and the press would still crucify Corbyn" except we actually live in a world where this is what actually happens.

Case in point being the Remembrance Day 'didn't bow low enough' outcry.  You would think that we would reach a point where the media dug itself into a credibility grave so deep they could never get out of it.  They can't be far off at the moment.  Then I listen to some of my younger colleagues in work and just cringe.  (oops, sorry, wrong thread again)   :-[

does the "government" have the right to initiate force against the people? If so, in which situations and to what degree?

I'm not 100% sure what you refer to by this phrase but I am going to work on the assumption that you mean exercise authority to some degree or another.  If that is the case then I would suggest that there is a need for society as a whole to exercise authority over what it considers appropriate standards, as agreed by society as a whole, and that action needs to be taken to enforce those standards where members of society choose to act contrary to those standards.

I think we can agree that, as a specific example, paedophilia is a reasonable standard that should be maintained and that individuals with a predatory tendency should be restricted for the protection of individuals.  In such an instance would it not be appropriate for the government to 'initiate force' to ensure that such individuals are protected from those unhealthy individuals who would inflict harm?

If I have misunderstood what you mean by the phrase then I apologise.

That unpopular eh?  :D

I would watch it but we only have council telly.

Hey, we have murdoch telly and I still can't watch it.  Bloody BT!  Make someone happy, strangle Buzby!

One of my colleagues watched it and said he spent the whole time cliche spotting.  Think I'll wait 'til it comes out on Channel 5.

Well that was a bizarre weekend.  Busted a gasket to get all of this week's planning sorted and the washing done by Friday night.  Rather than the usual chasing round the kids to their various activities, stuffing the washing machine and hammering on the computer to sort out the week's lessons, I actually found myself with time on my hands.  As a bit of a bonus, CEX in town had the Green Death and Time Warrior for a few bob.  Add in this week's tooth ....

Actually, thinking about this, maybe this should be moved to the 'you know you're and old codger when ... ' thread.

...and as nobody knows yet that we are open later, there's hardly anything to do.

And as anyone will tell you, is a bloody dangerous situation to be in.  That is about the time some muppet of an officer / manager pipes up and says 'well, while it's quiet you can sweep out the hangar!' or some other mind bending useless job like sorting out cargo nets or suchlike.  At least when you're busy they're less likely to bother you.  (please note, I said 'less' rather than 'not'.)

I'd love to watch this but if it's locked into Amazon Prime then I've a better chance of seeing Gibbon's and Tully finishing their Dare story from way back when!  Gutted as well.  It's a cracking novel and SFX have done a real good job of selling it (unlike Amazon!)

Firstly, as previously mentioned, it's folded incorrectly. .... Second niggle is that it's roughly only 2/3rds of the original size. I think that should have been made clear in the original sales blurb. If I had known this I probably would have gone for the standard edition.

It's also worth adding in that the poster prog is a reproduction of one of the colour spreads from the prog rather than an original page.  Specifically the first episode of the Hollow World story.

Thanks for that .  Glad I went for the standard edition now.

(except the burning mouth and streaming eyes caused by chewing raw garlic, which wears off after a few minutes anyway)?

So a bit similar to inhaling CS gas then !?!?

Careful. Comments like that and you'll get some weirdo stalker repeatedly emailing you out of the blue, to the point you have to block them at the server level.

Sounds like you've been having fun recently then!

I for one have always been frustrated with how American Flagg! has been treated by the likes of Image, Dynamite and Titan. It's a brilliant comic, from what some 12 issues i've read and in dire need of a proper omnibus release, not the slap dash part releases we've seen thus far.

I picked up the Image / Dynamic Forces Hardback volume 1 a few years back.  It really does do justice to them but only reprints the first 14 issues.  To this day this is the only volume that was produced.  The paperback volume 1 and 2 covers the same period.  This was my first and only experience with Flagg despite having been aware of it for a long time.  Reading various different reviews, I'm not sure if I want to go any further.  There seems to be a consensus that this was the best.

What I would love to see is the sequels to Colin Wilson's Rael printed in English.  The first volume had everything that was / is great about his work.  The story wasn't amazing but the art truly was.  I may eventually bite the bullet and get the French editions just to be able to enjoy the visuals.

If the Dredd cover book is anything to go by then I reckon this will get £200 easy.  At that money I would be killed by the wife, especially this close to Christmas.  <sigh>

I'm starting to think the limited was a figment of my imagination.
Still no sign of it.

Ah, bollocks. I give up. It will get here eventually or it won't.

It's only 40 quid after all  :'(

I don't know if said this before but if they'd done a Dave Gibbons signed bookplate I'd have been in like a shot.  (I guess a Belardinelli signing is out of the question.)

Heh - a good gap is your friend.

And a quick downshift and hit the accelerator!  (unless it's an automatic)

I'm frequently surprised to discover when viewing the specs for new cars that indicators are not, in fact, an optional extra.  <cough> years of driving on British roads had me convinced that not every car came equipped.  Admittedly though, with the exception of Bristol, it is still a saner experience driving in this country than in France.

when did it become the norm to indicate left, after overtaking, to return to the inside lane? You only indicate to overtake, not to pull back in again.

Sorry, I thought that was the correct thing to do.  I'm a firm believer in clearly indicating what you are doing to let other road users know.  Isn't it 'mirror, signal, manoeuvre?'  Granted a lot of the times it is more ... 'manoeuvre, signal, oh shit!' judging by the way some people drive.

Cracking sight joining a dual carriageway on saturday.  Two lanes into one on slip road.  Car in front clearly in a rush but the first of the two cars in the outside lane not so much.  Car behind following and waiting for the opportunity to get clear.  Cut a long story short, sat behind the pair of them watching them running side by side up the slip road and thinking to myself ... "This is going to end in tears and I'm right behind them!"
