Finally saw it last night at the local cinema. It was like watching someone else play a computer game.

I like all the characters though and when they weren't flying about punching things it was enjoyable.

FP doesn't get it in on a Wednesday (at least not in Belfast) as Hachette want to sell through newsagents primarily and not compete with rebellion publications which FP already sell. Or something like that anyway. So, FP get them on the Friday following the day of release I think.

Cheers

I remember that prog well! Loved Full Mental Jacket and Ian Gibson's artwork on Dredd. I started around 553 so this was around 6 months after, and I was soooo in love with everything Tooth

Well I found Dark Justice very disappointing. Artwork was superb and yet all wrong - it's been said before that fully painted artwork is wrong for comics and I have to say in this case I think thats correct. It looks amazing and yet it managed to pull me out of the story continuously. The plot was fine but I have no idea why every character started speaking like English was their second language. As others have said, it's less than the sum of its parts. Plus, I thought it was supposed to be a final farewell to the DJ's - and yet that ending leaves endless possibilities open.

For me Wagner is THE Dredd writer, and in the past Staples has done some of my favourite strip work. And the Alien franchise they were so clearly riffing off is fantastic.  But in the end this is like all your favourite musicians getting together to record a new song, but what they actually do is remake I Like A Party With An Atmosphere by Russ Abbot.

I remember this being on Comics Should be Good's "Comics you should read" feature and I've been thinking about picking up some of the Grendel omnibi for a while. I've only ever read the War Child mini and I quite enjoyed that at the time, although I'm guessing some of the earlier stuff is going to be significantly different in tone.

The plural of omnibus is omnibuses

The Latin word Omnibus is already a dative plural, It is derived from omnis. In English it is an adjective used as a noun. It follows that the plural of the anglicised form adheres to the rules of English and not Latin.

Grendel sounds cool - I'm away to see if I can get one cheap on eBay.

Books & Comics / Re: The Apex Line

My understanding is that a lot of Hicklenton has been lost, sadly. I first started reading the prog in the middle of two torquemadas and his artwork in that is one of the main reasons I loved 2000ad - it was unlike anything I'd ever seen and it was so unsettling and twisted. Such a loss...

I want apex editions of the whole of nemesis! From oneill to Talbot to Hicklenton to Roach to Flint. Oh and the guy that did the spiders. Nemesis was a strip that never had anything other than excellent artists.

I'd also love to see necropolis in Apex format.

And Dan Dare!

And Slaine the King

And... Jesus it never ends!

I read Caleb as being purposefully megalomaniacal to reinforce the perception in Nathan's head that Ava needed saving, so he was acting. We only see the real Caleb when he comes clean to Nathan that his real Turing test was testing whether Ava would fight to survive and would Nathan fall for her even though she is clearly a machine.

The twist of Ava not actually caring for Nathan and playing him for a fool was definitely something I suspected but I loved how she controlled him at the end - just saying "wait here" and then Nathan obediently sitting there expecting her to return.

I loved this film. And perhaps I've seen too many AI movies (Demon Seed, anyone?) but I never trusted Ava at all - despite being completely in love with her myself.

I actually found it quite affecting and episodes like this really mark it out as having improved so much since seasons 2 and 3.
