Events / Bristol Expo 2009
« on: 21 October, 2008, 10:19:24 PM »
Jut read that next year's Bristol Expo is taking place just in the Ramada. The huge train station side building is unavailable. So the organisers are personally inviting stands knowing that there will be over-demand.

I'm gutted as I had to miss B'ham. Anyone else got any news on this?

Help! / Steve Yeowell
« on: 17 October, 2008, 04:37:20 PM »
Has anyone got details of Steve's e-mail address/blog details.

I can't find anything out there and wanted a commission. If you do know him by all means bung him my e-mail address - matthew.ellis@thisisglobal.com

Thanks in advance!

Yes you are quite right.

The practice of making a dedication seems to have coincided with Ebay - and who can blame them. I'd rather that than end up being charged for a signature

Interestingly (or perhaps boringly) in the book world a dedicated signature is worth more as it is 'more' of the author.

Saturday the 13th of September at Orbital comics London.

He's always good fun. It says he's signing Lost Girls but he always seems happy enough to sign copies of anything put in front of him. I'm always suspicious of his name signed without a dedication as every thing I've seen him sign is made out to someone.

Please pass back any reports if you go...

Books & Comics / Batman RIP + Final Crisis
« on: 14 August, 2008, 02:55:51 PM »
I've got his Batman run since the start and like Final Crisis I'm waiting for a big redeeming ending.

They both seem to be fast moving and largely charmless affairs. FInal Crisis I don't feel I know 70% of what's going on. Batman I had to look up what Zen Ur Ahh referred to on google.

Every page has genius on it - a bullet that was fired in the future backwards through time - but it all seems so compressed.

Anyone else being left cold...

Suggestions / Re: My suggestion - Halo Jones
« on: 17 July, 2008, 08:43:03 PM »
I understand the Episode One remark but Indy 4 was a different experience.

Its not as good but in no way did it diminsh my enjoyment of the first 3. And I think that was down to just seeing Harrison Ford smiling on screen as Indy.

And I'd feel just as good seeing a beaming Halo Jones episode 4 drawn by Ian Gibson. I agree that the sunset ending was perfect (just like Last Crusade) but isn't it worth a try? Halo obviously had more adventures to be so highly regarded in the future.

Ultimately the character will get used by some publisher at some point in the future - it would be nice to see it while Ian could still be involved and frankly benefit from it. I'd support Ian in this.

Suggestions / My suggestion - Halo Jones
« on: 17 July, 2008, 04:16:38 PM »
I listened to that last Alan Moore podcast and it's quite clear that he is never going to return to 2000ad. And I understand his decision - that he doesn't want to work on properties that he doesn't own (and fortunately he doesn't have to)

So why not let someone else have a go at writing Halo Jones now? It's clearly episodic, it's clearly unfinished and hopeful Ian Gibson would be up for (at least) drawing it.

I know it would be better if Alan Moore did it. But he isn't going to. And it would get me buying every issue of 2000ad again. And cos its 20 + years later it's hardly sacrilege.

If Rebellion aren't doing this because they think Alan is going to come back - then I think they'll be waiting forever.
If Rebellion aren't doing this because they are being respectful - they are be astonishingly uncommercial for a company that deals with exploiting licensed characters.
And finally if they aren't doing this cos it will upset us fans (my conclusion) - I've got to question this - as long as Ian Gibson is on board and there's a good script - I want to see it.

Would you really be upset, 20 years on if someone else wrote this?
I know there was talk of Bk 4 Pirate Princess (?) at one point

Help! / Kev walker? cast picture of 2000ad
« on: 09 July, 2008, 03:40:46 PM »
Hi. I always loved the banner with all the 200ad cast on - its used as wallpaper here (far left and far right) its also the artwork on the SFX playing cards box and i swear it was on a huge banner one year at bristol.

has anyone got a good image of the whole group. Obiviously if the artist reads this I'm more than willing to pay for a print etc. Is it Kev walker? might be jocks - help!!!

was it ever on a prog or a retail poster - it's very cool! (Rebellion release it!)

Books & Comics / can you recommend weird 2000ads?
« on: 08 July, 2008, 03:39:16 PM »
I want to bind a book or the weird/unreprintable issues of 2000ad -

I thinking prog 500 all that creator vs tharg stuff, 1280 for the same reason Night 2 remember marshall law turns up, that prog where it was all a dredd and rogue cross-over, and the ish where it was a whole dredd issue dedicated to city of the damned mutant

also maybe the burger wars stuff

can you think of any other odd / weird / unreprintable progs that could fit into this weird grab bag?

nemesis photo stories welcome, even any weird board games

imagine a black dossier LOEG for 2000ad and you're there - any suggestions

Books & Comics / Re: The Complete Zenith now exists in hardback

Bookbinder in Bedford is J Lawrence - google it if you want the tel number. He's good and inexpensive.

There's a great bookbing forum in the states - the americans really seem to love this stuff

Ive got to say the size of UK comics makes them better to bind as they are bigger and stand up better to the gutter loss you get (the loss on the left side of the page)
