I currently have a Kickstarter running for issue 4 of Switchblade Stories, which can be found here -

This is absoloutely a shameless plug for my book, but it does come with this mighty fine Alex Ronald print absolutely free, which I did think might be of interest!

I can heartily recommend Switchblade Stories - its a brilliant series. There's a nice level that gets you all the physical issues to catch you up.

I backed this one immediately and added a page of Chris' gritty art from issue 3 as a treat as well.

Well, well worth checking out.

Which page did you get Colin?

Went for page 5. Had a really nice Warriors vibe to it in my head.

Having refreshed my memory, I can see that. Nice one.
I'm backing this, anyway!

Coming from Markosia in March 2022, Johnny Recruit, a World War 2 comic created in the style of early war comics/propaganda posters featuring double-page spreads and no dialogue. The tale is also written by 14-year-old Theo Behe and illustrated by Canadian artist Tom Muzzell.
"Set in wartime Canada, England, and Germany in 1941, Johnny Recruit is a story about hope, heroics, and youthful ambition. When 14-year-old Big Johnny learns his uncle's been captured by Nazis, he's sure the only person who can rescue his mentor is – himself.  Stellar bush pilot and expert game hunter, Johnny lies about his age and joins WW2 to find his best friend. But when a rival British pilot threatens to expose his secret, Johnny faces tough decisions no young kid should have to make..."

Any comics funding Kickstarters going on that you'd recommend backing?
(Not just small press, I know the likes of Dynamite do them now, too.)

Links please!

An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!

Dark Matter are a five strong team of mercenaries, each with a unique psychic ability. After a successful job rescuing "Mr Fluffles", they've been hired by the Narata Corporation to jump into a war zone and liberate some important information.

Action packed with some amazing set pieces, Dark Matter is a fun ride from start to finish. The script is full of great dialogue, backed up by Ian Beadles never less than dynamic black and white art

Issue 11 of Sentinel runs until Saturday, and is backable from £2, with all back issues available on the campaign in digital form. Each is a complete story, so no need to get older issues except for the pleasure of reading them.

Just to emphasize how wonder Chris Askham's Small Press stuff is I've posted an image of a truly fantastic page from issue 3 of his brilliant Switchblade Stories comic.

As said below I got all four physical copies of Switchbalde Stories in the recent Kickstarter. The reason is a spillage of milk at a sleepover damaged my issue 3 beyond repair - (don't you hate not being able to over react to other folks kids!) and the Kickstarter was for issue 4 BUT that leaves me with spares of issues 1 and 2 SO...

I'm offering them out to anyone here who wants to try the series - which I heartly recommend. All I'd ask (and clearly will never actually check!) is if you like them buy issues 3 and 4 off Chris (and any other of his lovely stuff you fancy). If you don't pass them onto someone who might.

That way everyone wins. You get free comics and Chris hopefully get more exposure and business. Win win!

Just done a re-read of all the Switchblade Stories issues 1-4 - 4 being the latest and it gets better and better. Its a wonderful hot, downtrodden read, rich in its influences, character and Chris Askham's art just gets better and better. They really are fantastic comics. And if you've not read them don't forgot I have copies of issues 1 and 2 to give away - not one has claimed them yet.
