Prog / Re: Prog 2265: Worlds at War

...the comic feels like it has lost that sense of clearly defined "Eras", with each year washing over the last with little by way of "change".

Interesting. We could list out some golden age strips: Strontium Dog, Nemesis, Rogue Trooper, Slaine & Dredd. Those five are so definitive that they sometimes appear on the cover even when they're no longer in the prog.

There was a time when Sin Dex and Dante were in the top (or ubiquitous) slots.

So, now: what does define the prog, aside from Dredd? The talking point is often Regened.

Makes me want to restart my stages project, which has been on a sabbatical since I got to 1995 and, like many before me, felt like a break.

Another interview with Garth Ennis:

Thanks for posting that - really good interview. Makes me look forward to the strip even more.

Young me loved Hawk the Slayer - I haven't tried a recent re-watch, but I assume the rosy spectacles would see me through fairly well.

Tyranny Rex had legs. Opaque legs.

I'm not. I'm dropping to bits.

Keep the helmet on.

And stay out of Sarlacc pits. Even if, and this part is really important - even if you're in a spaceship.

Grud on a greenie! Anderson walks it for some out and out classics. There are some great Rogue Trooper spin-offs, but Hunted, while it has positive elements, doesn't work as well as Jaegir or Mayflies.

On the one hand, it's like I'm Sideways Scuttleton and I've wandered into an alternate dimension in which the Double Eff You is worth watching. On the other hand - I've never watched any of 'em, so what do I know?

That's made me re-appreciate the visuals on that movie. Ultimately, I found it dull compared to all the shouty, blasty, ear-buggy, open-shirted Montalbon-iness of Khan, but visually it's striking.

Danzig's Inferno

confuses everyone by getting into Round 3

I am entertained.

The big surprise for me when I worked hospitality was visiting Australia (this is in '95) and seeing how well staff were treated over there - it was all unionized so you were guaranteed time and a half on Saturdays and double time on Sundays. After something like 10pm, the employer had to pay to get you home, and the wages were decent as well. Back in the UK I had to double check every pay packet to make sure they hadn't stung me on what were already poor pickings. It's a tough gig, right enough.

Space maths.

Lingua-fascist! I live in the US, so it’s all color and favor and erasers over here. And pants go on over your pants, and not just for superheroes. And everyone has a gun so lots of people get shot, but the locals can’t figure out why because they only do one math, as opposed to several maths.

I'd rather know just how his spaceship works - how exactly does it manage to hover and turn about just a few meters from the ground, when it's thrusters are fixed in one position?

Slave-1's anti-gravity nacelles pivot to manage the hover. The x-wings also have some sort of anti-grav for maneuvering gently out of hangers. As does the Falcon.

Space math!

I was always very fond of Meat Loaf. RIP.

I find that one far too bleak. It's clever, but it's beige.

I wonder what Dredd's head count is?
