That's very well put and I agree with what you're saying there.

I don't think the anti-freak guys were justified, I just thought it didn't make sense. But there's a clear difference in the potrayal of the Onryo, the Dybbuk, and the more harmless monsters like the Wolves and Nona - even Bliss at the end.

Certainly food for thought for me & thank you for making me re-evaluate that.

Some interesting views on Portals & Black Goo here - I'll definitely try to re-read it on one go, see if any new perspectives emerge.

Comparisons between the supernatural 'monsters' and immigrants  are valid, and remind me of a controversial review of the 2005 Doctor Who story 'The Unquiet Dead' claiming it treated aliens seeking sanctuary on planet Earth as evil invaders.
