General / 1500 old progs to charity
15 April, 2023, 09:04:32 PM
I started reading 2000AD around prog 150, reading my brother's copy each week. When he left home I bought it for myself and have done ever since. Eventually the piles of progs got too much, and after a couple of house moves they ended up in crates in my roof. And there they stayed. I never read them, as it was too much hassle to fish out the ones I wanted, even though the boxes were labelled, and I think that I found the sheer size of the collection intimidating. And besides, I just buy the collected editions when I want to relive an old thrill. Eventually I decided they should go to a good home, but for ages I wasn't sure how to do that - far too many to sell off via eBay bundles - even a year's worth is a big heavy parcel. So they stayed in my attic. Then a couple of weeks ago I spotted a few progs in the local Oxfam shop, and got talking to the lad behind the counter, who, it turns out, knows his comics. "I have about 1500 2000ADs, could you take them?". "Sure, no problem." And so six stupidly heavy crates containing virtually every prog from 1987 to 2017 ended up in the charity shop. I have no idea how they'll shift them!

So if the size of your prog collection is preying on your mind, give a thought to donating it to a good cause. Now it's gone I feel it's a weight off my mind. I now only have about six years worth lying around (so I can figure out what's happening in The Order before the latter series are collected) so I think I'll be fine for while!

General / Jaegir query
27 September, 2021, 05:21:00 PM
Just finished the excellent Jaegir UC collection. Are there any stories between that (Valkyrie) and the recent one in the prog? If so I'll dig them out and get fully up to date. Thanx.

Prog / Prog 2214 - High Vexplosive!
11 January, 2021, 05:32:57 PM
I always enjoy reading the review threads, but don't often contribute to them. Anyway, it's Monday, and I've had my prog since Saturday, so it seems like for once I'm ahead of the pack!

So, Dredd - art terrible, story interesting.
Hershey - art great, story a bit nasty, and I'm still bemused at how healthy Hershey is (I know she is faking being dead, but she was always seriously ill).
Slaine - looks fab, story unoriginal but still engaging.
Vex - still bonkers good.
Red - good in an old skool way.

Other Reviews / Judge Dredd: Control
15 July, 2020, 07:17:30 PM
Not quite a review, but hoping someone who's got this can fill me in...

Which stories are in this collection? I can't find the info anyway. I'm guessing the two(?) Pin stories, plus sensitive klegg. Any others? I'm thinking it will be a nice companion to The Small House, with several overlaps (Gerhardt etc).

Other Reviews / Charley’s War
25 April, 2018, 06:22:46 PM
Not strictly a review of content, as I've not had time to start it, but anyway, volume one of the Definitive Charley's War is truly a thing of beauty. A massive high quality paperback, with colour spreads reproduced, and a short commentary at the end by Pat on each story (ie each 1 or 2 episodes). Pleased that I plumped for the bargain 3 for £50 option.
If you're a fan of the strip and are havering over this, just go for it.

General / Any subscribers still waiting for 1998?
16 September, 2016, 04:36:37 PM
I usually get my prog in the Saturday post. I'm aware there have been distribution issues, but it's now Friday and still no prog! Just about the worst week for this to happen. I'm terrified to look at the review threads in case I pick up spoilers. Just wondered if anyone else is in the same position?
If no prog tomorrow, I think it'll have to be WHSmiths for an extra one.

Hi. Not had an account on here for long. I don't seem to be able to post on the review threads. Do I need special privileges setting up?

Welcome to the board / Lurker says hello
13 April, 2016, 05:31:18 PM
Hi. Long time lurker here, thought I'd finally get an account and maybe chip in to the odd conversation. Been reading my brother's progs since 150 and my own since about 600. Also occasional meg reader though I've never felt it to be as essential as the prog.
