Title: When did Tharg first tell us 'how to'?
Post by: longmanshort on 07 July, 2006, 07:36:05 PM
Quick couple of questions ...

Can anyone remember when that feature where the Gibson droid showed how he draws a strip first appeared? And was there a script equivilent?

Also, does anyone have a clue of when 2000AD first published its submissions guides?

It was 1985, according to Mr Berridge, so many thanks to him for that. Plus, submissions guidelines first appeared in Prog 2000.

Cheers

The script one was also in a annual. The showed how the first page of a Judge Dredd Cursed Earth went from script to finished article. Can't remember the year either

It was what inspired Garth Ennis to become a comics writer I seem to remember reading in a interview

I used to love the Robin Smith cover layout for that cover feature, largely because Dredd is saying "POSSIBLE DREDD BALLOON?" I didn't realize for a *very* long time that this meant "maybe Dredd should have a speech balloon on this cover", rather than being a "STOMM!"-like exclamation from the man himself.

I remember somewhere in the 800's or 900's there was a comedy Tharg tale where he's telling us (the readers) how to and how not to submit art and script ideas, but I havent read it in years. I do remember at one point he's holding a young hopeful out of a window on the 5th-6th floor....

Ha!  The McMahon Dredd art class was always a bit of a pisser.

1.  Draw an incredibly good picture of Dredd,  tuh Shading and everything.

2.  Rub out the shading, draw it in neet bold lines, while still maintaining it's utter fucking fantasticness.

3.  Ink it perfectly, you might want to get GOD to help you with the tricky bits.
