Oof!  Barney is 3 years out of date - I know the feeling as the last 3 years all feel like a bit of a gap - if I had the passwords, I wouldnt mind updating it as it would give me an excuse to go over the last 3 years and see if I can make some of it stick

Partying like its 2102 in Dredd.

I wish Tharg had pointed out the prog numbers from the last Asher story as I can't recall the exact details of where it was all left - Dredd is already onto Asher, Asher is mobbing it up, but its a bit hazy - is Barney up to date enough to track em down?  As ever the KenPT Droid is pretty close to that Classic taste, and I appreciate a reference to ShepNerd, being one.  That said, I do feel the calibration of Dredd Softy/Bastard/Wanker scale seems to have been turned a bit too far to Wanker after some complaints about Softy setting coming through in the N-AI_mand bot.  Burning the corpse is fun in the moment, but is a 90s/00s flavour that jars a bit with the 70s/80s stylings elsewhere.

Portals & Black Goo is working better than Tomlinsons shorts, though as Barrington says, the "Racism" angle is a bit weird. We could presume that the story would reveal that the myths are all just that and the monsters arent "comin over here and taking our entrails", but we've kind of established that they are?

Still at least theres a theme and I think thats the Void in Void Runners - whats it all about?  Drugs are cool?  Dunno, the comparisons to Ace Trucking arent putting this into teh best light - I could see a fun Ace Trucking story based rouhghly around the same plot points, but it would be half the length and twice the fun?  It;s OK, but feels a bit stretched thin.

Hershey is dead to me (literally)!

Azimuth - not too disappointed that it ties into Sun Dex as it wasnt that out of the blue, but I must have lost track of Sin Dex - wasnt Sinister still after Dexter and co and part of the Creep fakes?  Again, could do with going back if Barney has up to date enough info....

May I add to the general love for SpaceSpinner - once again my subscription prog is AWOL, but the only thing I'm checking regularly for is the new episode!

192 pages for Search Destroy Vol 3 suggests that we are getting Muties Luck 6 pages/ Doc Quince Case 21 pages/ Bad Boys Bust 21 pages/ Portrait of a Mutant 93 pages / The Gronk Affair 22 pages

Thats 163 pages so Kid Knee sadly doesnt quite fit and will presuambly be split from the 200s run and bumped in with the 335 return era

Does leave room for Assault on Trigol 3 / Night of the Blood freaks / Kurtis Job / The Kroll Affair hopefully....

Quote from: Tjm86 on 06 July, 2023, 05:47:02 PMStront is already getting the treatment it deserves.  Granted a lot of these have received the Ultimate Collection treatment but Rebellion do a far better job when it comes to spines (okay, Trigan Empire don't always align but .... AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!).

Don't get me started on the Stront series - They've already missed some material (the details of which evade me, but there was a thread about it I'll try and dig up).  I suppsoe they can add them in later volumes, but it's annoying that the chronology is put out of shape.

The big question is willthis avoid the problems of earlier versions or just blindly follow the Casefiles, with stories omitted or out of sequence (the main issues I recall being missing Tomb of Torquemada and the Bride of the Warlock story needing to be inserted at the right point to fit the narrative?)

The Troggies (progs 36-37) features a proto-Undercity.

Anderson, Psi Div: The Possessed (progs 468-478)

Anderson, Psi Div: Reasons to be Cheerful (meg 2.20-2.11)

Karyn: Concrete Sky (meg 2.67-2.62)

Lobo/Judge Dredd: Psycho Bikers vs The Mutants from Hell (one-shot crossover)

Daily Dredds:
The Undercity (14/08/82)

Text Stories:
Everything Must Go (meg 206)

Novels:
Dreddlocked
Dredd Dominion (alternate continuum Undercity)
Judge Dredd vs. Death
Anderson, Psi Div: Fear the Darkness

IDW - JD: Deviations (alternate universe sequel to Cry of the Werewolf)

Theres a second serialied Daily Star Dredd from 1988 called the Undercity - ran from May to Aug and is in Volume 2 of the Rebellion collections

The Alligator story from the 300's was the sewers rather than the Undercity?

No reviews I'm presuming because the Subscriber copies are AWOL?

No sign in Birmingham of 457, though the prog came Monday and Battle Action 2 turned up today....

Just to echo the general air of meh about the recent Regeneds

Good first - the cover was great, adn the FS, weird formatting aside, was decent

I'm all for all ages 2000AD - I think the regular prog would do well to be more all ages so we dont get the weird disconnect like the adverts for next weeks "not for kids" comic

But I'm not really sure what this is achieving other than a collection of Lowborn High with a rather jarring downgrade in the art (no offence intended, but the art was previously about the only good thing about LH, but this isn't really up to standard - decent fanzine level, but lacking the polish I want to see in a professional publication.

Dredd sums up my feelings of confusing and lack of seeming direction.  Liam Johnson does seem to ahve a better handle than many and this isnt the worst  - I would argue that theres nothing wrong leaning into the history we know of the characters and his stories seem to be the closest to finding a reason for these tales.  But it feels like those first 20 Dredd stories from the 70s where mud is being thrown to see what sticks - there was a reason for that then, but I dont see why we need that now.

Its an attempt to appeal to the most modern audience wrapped in the most retro logo possible - that disconnect seems to run through Regened like a stick of rock

This Crypto Currency issue seems to talk to the heart of the circular arguments we end up having regarding the Honourable Sharks thinking

System A doesnt work because humans are awful, exploit it and misuse it for their own gains

System B on the other hand, would work much better because humans are fundamentally good and dont look to exploit systems.

Obviously, I take some systems might be better at encouraging co-operation and avoiding coercion, which is what I take from Shark's outlook, but as this cryptocurrency example would seem to show is that there's no system that will self regulate for the benefit of all its users

Jsut watching a video on how he has bought a house in Henley, "coincidentally" just a few days after the current Tory MP announced he wouldnt be standing at the next election, so his plan is pretty transparent.

It seems clear from this statement that this is just a temporary necessity so he can ride in after a Starmer Victory to "defend" Brexit.  Though he has set himself a few hurdles as he would need to get himself a safe Tory seat to become PM again.

Quote from: nxylas on 06 June, 2023, 02:58:08 PMMine is pretty good at pointing me in the direction of new stuff I like...or old songs I'd forgotten about. The other week, for example, it played me Love Your Money by Daisy Chainsaw, a brilliant song that I hadn't thought about in maybe 30 years.

Funnily enough Spotify has started playing that to me a lot at the moment as well?!?
