My copy of 2203 turned up on Saturday, but it's the first prog that has for a while. I did have chat with my postie earlier in the week and he apologised that my 'magazine' had been turning up late (I didn't bring up the subject, he did), but apparently it's across the board with all post that he's been regularly delivering.

I rewatched the first hobbit film last week and it's got all the good stuff in. The longer it went on, the more extraneous guff was added - I'd love to see a re-edit down to about 2 hours max cutting out anything not in the book, and trimming some of the stuff which was. He basically tried to make the same film about a very different book. A 9+ hour trilogy from an epic, sprawling 3 book series? Fine. The same from a children's novella? Not fine.

There are fan edits out there that trim out all the non-book stuff and reign back a bit more of the nonsense (i.e. the Dwarves escaping the goblins) and are a lot more watchable. The one I saw was still about 4 hours long though.

Chrysalids is my favourite Wyndham as well.

Heinlein's "Orphans of the Sky" treats mutants in a similar way - not sure if it influenced Wyndham or not

Shame comic boxes always seem to be cardboard.  Last time I asked if anybody knew of any plastic comic boxes on this forum the only reply I got was 'try these cardboard ones' :-O

There's probably a Really Useful Box that's the right size. I seepm to recall that the 19L ones are the right size for American comics, but not sure what size would store 2000 AD ones.

I knew there was a special edition of Aliens, but had no idea about Cubed and Resurrection!

I don't remember the extended cut of Resurrection being anything special, but the Assembly cut of Alien 3 considerably improves the film and is worth watching (it's still nowhere near as good as 1 or 2 though)

What?  I thought Trump said that all you need to do is lay the virus out in the sun?  If there is one thing Texas has plenty of, it's sunlight isn't it?

And Florida is known as the 'Sunshine State'...

Bought the special but the digital version is not available for download, hopefully will become available during the day.

Seems to be working now - I had a brief read of the first few stories at lunch.

And Barney's gone 404.

Ee-ouk!

It's you, Funt. You've worn the poor thing out with your researchifying and spreadsheetening.

Don't leave us, Barney!  If any of my circuits or gears will help, I'll gladly donate them.

Strange, it was working a couple of hours ago.

I've not received a Saturday prog since the lockdown started - normally it arrives Tues-Weds, although this week it was Thurs, but I assume that was because of the bank holiday. Hopefully once we've got this disease sorted out, we'll be back to Saturday progs!

Mrs IP just received a string of frankly terrifying texts, including a demand to isolate in the home AND from everyone else in the house. We have no idea what the reason is — that is not provided. Also, if she's so at risk, why the fuck did it take until now to be told? Argh. (And, yes, these are genuine NHS messages.)

My (very healthy) sister got that the other weekend - when she phoned up on the Monday to check, she was told it was a mistake and that she should ignore the messages.

Sounds like Ireland's doing the sensible thing to reduce transmissions and let the virus die out, as opposed to the UK which is basically just 'Carry On, Nothing's Wrong' (Which is still better than the US's response...)
