Yes, a brand new exclusive discovery by CNN that has only been known about (by Europeans) since the 1920's, and has had organised tourist packages to it for over a decade , complete with You Tube videos.  It's some nice footage (and thanks for linking to it it PW), but the way in which CNN frames its stuff as Breaking! Exclusive! Superlative! News! is just appalling.  The requisite sequence of expressions on the anchorwoman alone.. Serious!  Excited!  Conspiratorial!  Mild sadness at impending doom!

I can actually predict at least one conversation I'll be having today:  "So I saw they found the largest pyramid ever - how did your lot miss that, eh?".  Ah well, at least no-one mentioned 2012.

Mike Gloady

CNN are ridiculous.  At least it wasn't a FOX NEWS EXCLUSIVE though, think I'd've topped myself if I had to watch more than five seconds of that station.

It was nice of them to put wooden stairs on it and railings at the top before their civilsation collapsed.

I love the growing numbers of comments on youtube videos though. "Fake!" "Fake!" "FAKE!" How exactly do you fake a pyramid in a remote forest? Balsa wood?

Devons Daddy

saw this tonight, for the first time.

i reckon its been built by microsoft! of maybe coca cola, you watch they will open the crypt with the world cameras watching and inside a copy of window 7. or a new brand of diet soda.
I AM VERY BUSY!

On a similar note, have you seen those ads promoting the Times in-depth scientific coverage (they're all over the Tube) that say that global warming means the north east passage is open to commercial shipping for the first time? Someone pointed out (in Private Eye I think, or maybe Ben Goldacre in the Guardian) that it has actually been used for commercial shipping since 1934. That really instils confidence in their science reporting!

Science reporting in mass media is always fairly suspect.  Your new example only reinforces this prejudice of mine.  I might FIND new stories in the papers, but I'll always check with more specialist websites or magazines/journals.

News journalists can't do sums either, much less can they cope with percentages. In today's news the BBC reported statistics for Down's Syndrome births. Their figures were all over the place. For instance, if pre-natal diagnosis increases by 70% and terminations stay constant at 92%, the number of births should increase over 10 years, not fall by 9. The figures quoted in the actual bulletin delivered by Kate Silverton were even more muddled.

I think she's the one who really annoys me by always reading the news with one hand on her mouse. It's as if the nation has just rudely interrupted her and at any point she's going to break off from the autocue and fiddle with her Fantasy Football team.

Are we to surmise from your lusting after Ms. Silverton that a new world's largest pyramid has just been discovered...?

Well, I don't like to boast...

Peter Wolf

I dont normally bother with mainstream media but it was worth it for the footage.
