Scary happenings in Texas

America's public school curriculum may be in for a Texas-sized overhaul, if the Lone Star state's influential recommendations for changes to social studies, economics and history textbooks are fully ratified later this spring. Last Friday, in a 10-to-5 vote split right down party lines, the Texas State Board of Education approved some controversial right-leaning alterations to what most students in the state—and by extension, in much of the rest of the country—will be studying as received historical and social-scientific wisdom. After a public comment period, the board will vote on final recommendations in May.

For a start don't they realize that there is... mercyfully this little thing called the internet? You just can't place the restrictions on information like they used to
Also... dosen't the American constitution have this thing called the first amendment?

It seems pointless changing the terminology from "Imperialism" to "expansionism" as they both amount to exactly the same thing.Imperialism doesnt stop being Imperialism just because it is subject to a name change.

Also changing terminology from Capitalism to "free market" when in actual fact there is no free market as virtually everything is monopolised/corporatised not to mention the existence of the FED which has a complete monopoly of the banking system not to mention that the FED is a privately owned enterprise which therefore contradicts any theoretical free market in the US.

Also it was curious to read that the US Constitution is not being prioritised as something that should be taught in school history lessons.This seems like a wasted opportunity if Texas schoolbooks influence public school curriculums in the US.

Of course though the left always scream "extremism" when right wing ideology is promoted.

As a matter of interest Texas is under siege by radicalised LaRaza Hispanics who want to reclaim Texas as part of Mexico as they lost it to the US during a territorial dispute 100 - 150 yrs previous.

The revised Anti-Communism angle seems worthwhile and so does the promotion of the NRA.

The Mexican War, you mean.  Which took place when US immigrants living on Mexican soil claimed Texas was an independent state, and the US moved an army in to annex it.  And they say Americans don't get irony.
