General / Re: Startling revelations............

First thing - John Wagner has stated publicly the he will DEFINETELY NEVER KILL DREDD.  However, Dredd may still die, 'cos as you say, it ain't up to him, it is up to Rebellion.

I might be the only person to think he will eventually die, and here is why:

If Rebellion use their noggin's they will look at the character in about five years time and say "hmmm, that Dreddy is getting on a bit.  He just ain't believable any more."

They will then remember that killing Johnny Alpha was the single biggest event of British Comic History, and realise that the only way to top it would be to kill old Stoneyface himself.

Dredd dies, sales go critical, the Graphic Novel is the most popular ever from 2000AD and sales continue as before 'cos Rico takes over the strip.

This is why it makes sense.

Another possibilty is this - wait, I think I'll post a new thread altogether......  (wait with baited breath, go on, you know you want to know...)

please explain joke.

not understand  :(  Me stoopid

Another way to define eras could be pre and post of major or groundbreaking series.

For example - Necropolis, The Final Solution, The Black Hole, The Horned God.

General / What is your favourite non-comic fiction?
26 January, 2002, 09:46:19 AM
My fave authors are
Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day) and
Haruki Murakami (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle)

My favourite science fiction is
Stpehen King's "The Dark Tower" Series,
David Wingrove's "Chung Kuo" Series (This is AWESOME!)
Robin Hobb's "Liveship Traders" and, of course,
Lord of the Rings.

I guess I like epic stories.  I especially love the way that the Dark Tower also drags in so many of King's other books.

What about the rest of you?

Prog / What are your favourite non-2000AD comics?

I absolutely love Akira.

The bit where Tetsuo kills Yamagata is up there with when Johnny Alpha says to Max Bubba "Because I hate You".  Yamagata is about to shoot Tetsuo.  On the next page, his head flips back, you see his upside down view of Kaneda and then his head explodes all over Kaneda.  Stunning.

The story and art are both absolutely incredible.  I have only read the first book so far, although I have the next two on order.  (In English and Japanese)

I haven't seen the film, but I have a republication version in Japanese - it is fully coloured and I think it might be the story as it is in the film, but I'm not sure.

I also love Lone Wolf and Cub.  Ogami Itto is one cool guy.  I've read the first ten published by Dark Horse comics, but actually find it hard to get hold of them in English 'cos I live in Japan.  I'm going to get a few more from Amazon soon.

Japanese stuff is way better than American stuff I reckon.  The only American stuff I like is Batman:  The Dark Knight Returns and a few Spiderman stories.  I thought that the Kingdom stories were very average.

Anyway, what else is good?  What do you folks like?

General / Re: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri...

Hmmm, scrub that plan.

I have just done a search on the net and have been completely unable to find anywhere that has ACEdit, the old faction editor I used to use.  In fact most of the recent Alpha Centauri stuff seems to be gone, which is strage, cos there was still loads of it in July, before I moved here to Japan.

So unless anyone has a copy of ACEdit they can mail me, forget it.

Who has played this game?  Who liked it?

Well a long while ago I made up some faction files for The ABC Warriors and associated characters.  (My favourite was Termight).  I also made up new graphics for a couple (Termight and The Kollege of Khaos)

The last time I did it, this website did not exist, and I could not generate much interest.  Now that this website has drawn some interest in, I am on a different computer in a different country but I feel like re-doing it.

If I were to re-write the faction files, would anyone be interested in playing with them and giving me feedback?

I guess you could do a similar thing with Mega-Cities and various other continuity arcs.

Anyone interested?  I think I am going to go and make a start on Termight again anyway for my own amusement, which is mainly a case of slightly tweaking the Hive faction and playing with graphics.

Yeah, old Dreddy should definetely die a pointless death.  It would be somehow wrong for him to die like a hero.

Maybe somethnig like the way that um... thingy um..... the guy who started the tight boots thing um..... Morph!, thats the one,... died.

Or possibly he could die because he does something a little bit human, like showing just a little bit too much good old fashioned love, instead of acting like a judge.

That Judge Planet was a weird one alright.

I didn't really get it the first time I read it, (what with being 12 and all that), but now I think it is a cracker.  Wish I could get my hands on it again

Aye, I'll grant you that he gets Dredd right in the story.  Spot on now that you mention it.

Perhaps they could get other people to write the plot, and get Ennis to do Dredd's reactions for events for them.

Unlikely Unfortunately

You are right

Necropolis will never be beaten.

Wilderlands was shite, Helter Skelter had enormous potential, but totally failed to deliver. ( I made a huge post about that)
Judgement day was okay, but not even close to Necropolis.
