A documentary about John Hicklenton is going to be premiered at the Here's Johnny (http://www.heresjohnnyfilm.com/%22%20target=%22_blank)
That's fantastic Wake! South By Southwest is a big deal.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this film.
Did you get my PM on the other forum, about a supplier of bespoke leathers?
I need some bespoke leathers too! Do they do body armour, shoulder pads, etc.? I've got a few suppliers in mind already, but it doesn't hurt to know of a few more.
I'm currently working with these guys to see if we can produce a decent undersuit with a chunky front zip and a patch on the breast for the Dredd badge.
I think the one mentioned on the RPF thread was a bit too fetish (the zip goes under the crotch and up to the back of the waist) but it was certainly a good starting point.

Quoted me £250 for a simple jacket and trouser combination. Used this as reference:

I'm not sure I did get a PM from you, but I have seen those designs on the MegCityJustice UK forum, but I can't find them again now.
I sent the PM on 2000AD Review.
Got it. I don't often log into 2000AD Review since I barely ever post there. The timescale is very short here, since we need the suit by the end of this month.
Cheers,
Wake
Bloody hell - lick of paint need there, I think!
Is that polystyrene?
It could be Dredd at the end of the Cursed Earth, I suppose.

Some nice Judge costumes.
(From Worldcon I think.)
Anyone know where and when this was, and maybe where the costumes are now?

I think the fact that there was more than just one looked pretty impressive. Nice Eagles,
Nah, Wake ignore them that's what a street Judge would wear!
Well I'm certainly not planning on painting them. Since they come from a unique costume as opposed to being prototypes or production items then I don't want to make any visible changes to them. Plus, I don't want to risk making a mistake. I will probably add some more velcro tape to the inside, but that should be all that's needed.
They are made from some kind of dense foam.
Riot foam?
mobile foam?
By the way I was referring to the Eagles on the video, I wasn't being sarcastic if that's how it came across. Sorry.
The eagle is probably the toughest part of the costume to get right, I'm curious how the Judge Minty costume turns out, it looks like a good compromise to go back towards the smaller eagle pad of the early Dredds.
I would imagine doing a fully articulated eagle must be a challenge.

I love the feet. Referring to the eagle.
But what of the gloves, elbow pads, nee pads and boots.
I haven't taken a recent photo of the other pads (the stuff is here with me at work but my camera is at home) but here's a photo taken by Logan at Moniaive in 2003. There are a pair of green boots too which he isn't wearing and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to use those belt pouches on the intended belt
I think the pads are made from sculpted neoprene.

I agree about the Eagle being the hardest thing.
If you follow too closely it just looks insane. For my Fan Film version I'm going to 'try' and make it more practical.
It will probable annoy some (many), but, in a film, there's no way you can make people believe that the comic book one works in the real world.
I'm not a costume maker, but I would have similar problems if I was rigging a CGI Eagle pad.
I guess it could work as a fairly rigid eagle body, with the wings attached (but articulated) to the jacket, so the feathers spread out as the arm moves around.
The challenge is trying to make it look good in most situations, and is probably why it looks like there is only one Judge wearing the Eagle in the movie.
From what I've seen on the review thread, yours looks like a good solution - and it reminds me of a cross between the early Dredds and the proto-judges that were in Origins.

bump for an update?
The leathers should be with me next Friday. I'm driving the costume to Brighton on Saturday 1st March and will hopefully get some photos of it being worn.
I think the chain is going to have to have more than 7 links to let it hang right. I was hoping to find suitable brass quick-links but I think I'll just have to cut and bend standard links from the chain I've bought to attach it to the badge and zipper.
The links in the chain I've bought have an external length of about 22mm and a diameter of about 3mm.

NNNNnoooooooooooooooooo!
I live in Brighton ;-)
never mind,you could move.
The leathers arrived yesterday. Here's a photo of the costume with the pads in place.
That's cool!
Wake, might just be my weak webfu but the

comes up with a Megacity Jutice site that is closed.
Nice suit, have you got someone to fill it?
Huff
MegaCity Justice has moved so the thread I created there has gone.

Interesting stuff!
Here's a photo taken earlier this evening. More tomorrow.
That's bloody impressive. Nice work.
- Trout
Facial Hair?
what would Old Stoney-Face say...
On the plus side, he looks a bit like Ron Perlman...
That looks really good- the only thing's I'd work on would be the boots and belt.
Great work.
Bolt-01
The boots are slightly too tight and since it will be worn for long periods at a time (in the Texas heat), the boots are going to be replaced with black ones that fit.
The brown belt will probably be replaced with a black one. The black belt I'd intended to use was too short. Do you think that would make the difference? The only other option I can think of is sending an SD Studios movie buckle to replace the resin one.
Cheers,
Wake
The boots are slightly too tight
You're taking the realisim a bit too far there, Wake...
As well as wearing the comic shoulder pads, he is also going to look something like this (but with only one day's stubble).

Photos from the festival are starting to appear on Flickr. Just search for Dredd by most recent.

I wonder if that is as uncomfortable as it looks.
I've just found this video interview on YouTube.
