Film Discussion / My reviews of "Dredd"
31 January, 2013, 11:26:42 PM
Hi all. I was very taken with the Dredd movie, so much so, it got me reading 2000AD again! I'm one of the founding members of www.playmountain.net. I act as a site administrator there and often contribute reviews and articles to the main site. We're a general movie website and are all big supporters of the Dredd movie - myself in particular. So rather than waffle on in existing threads about how much I love the damn movie I hope the admins here don't mind me posting links to my Dredd articles.

Here is the initial review I wrote after seeing the film at the cinema:

Here is a follow up article I wrote after seeing the movie on Blu Ray

http://www.playmountain.net/news/movie/ok-we-seriously-need-to-talk-some-more-about-dredd/

And here it gets a mention in my Top Ten of 2012 article

Hope this makes interesting reading for you guys!

I bought the Robocop Trilogy for the express purpose of watching Robocop 3

Really?

Wow.

Funnily enough, Robocop 3 is similiar to the Stallone Judge Dredd in a way - in that by the time the lead protaganist aquires a device that enables them to fly - I want to remove my own appendix.

Yeah, I saw this. Pretty good! Very funny aswell. Although Tarantino can be a bit of a one trick pony in my opinion.

Wow, someone was able to sit through this movie?

Listen pal, don't go and start thinking you're indestructable or anything and decide to do something REALLY foolish like attempt to watch Galactica 1980. You'll be braindead about 13 minutes into the first episode...

What proposed TV show??

Didn't I read somewhere that Alex Garland had a TV show in mind?

Yeah, Cranston's got a great Dredd voice, but he's knocking on a bit.

From what I gather he's knocking on a bit in the comic too. In the Dredd movie I get the feeling he's supposed to be fairly young-ish. He doesn't seem to have yet quite aquired the fearsome reputation he has in the comic book. His colleagues know he's the shit, but word doesn't quite seem to have got the rest of Mega City One yet.

Maybe if the proposed TV show focuses more toward the end of his career - someone like Cranston would be appropriate...

Hope he gives Karl Urban a role - he'd make a great Han Solo type, or villain.

I wanna see Bryan Cranston in it. Mind you, I wanna see Bryan Cranston in EVERYTHING. If the Dredd TV show happens, and it's after Breaking Bad finishes - I think we've got our small screen Dredd right there!

Oops, did a thread about this already! Go easy on me guys - I'm a newbie!

Yeah, I talked the wife into letting me subscribe to this one... Looks like it'll be a great collection when all's said and done! Wonder if they'll ever do a DC one? That would be cool...
#193
If not, and you want to - I suggest you get down the newsagent cause the first one is still out but I'm not sure how long for. The first graphic novel is The Avengers and the next one is a Spider-Man one!

I was always a DC kid growing up and totally missed out on Marvel - but I've seen all the movies and they've got me curious - so I thought this part work was a great way to start!

Anyone else like this stuff?

Hey guys

I'm ChickenStu, I'm almost 35 and throughout my youth I was a casual reader of 2000AD and have always been a big fan of old stoney face! It was difficult at times though, cause my parents dissaproved of comic books and often wouldn't let me get it (the rotters...)

About five years ago I had a subscription to the mag and the megazine, but sadly it all fell by the wayside when I moved house. Although recently, I found all the old ones I'd been sent (most were still in envelopes, lol) and put them in a box. I've still a few more to find from that subscription.

Anyway, since the excellent Dredd movie (I even hated the Stallone one when I was a kid!) I've got my interest back in a big way, and last week I started buying the title again. I bought the latest prog today - really enjoyed the story about the kid in the bubble.

I bought the radio show cassettes of The Day The Law Died and dug out the old PS2 game Dredd Vs Death aswell. For my birthday next month, I'm gonna ask for the first few Complete Case Files TPB collections of Judge Dredd and am going to collect them. Think I'm gonna pick up the graphic novel of Origins too!

So yeah, big fan. Just a shame my kids are a bit too young for it - I'd love to share this stuff with them!

Any advice on where to go by more seasoned Judge Dredd fans would be appreciated!

Nice to meet you all!  :)
