I can't remember it at all.
Was it a sequel to Bad City Blues?

QuoteThis bundel saves me having to upgrade again.I can't imagin g George Lucas ever doing that.
If only Lucas had died after the third Indiana Jones film, it would have saved everyone a lot of pain.

None of that means he can't still be a reincarnation of Slaine.

Megazine / Re: MEG 329 - UNHOLY TERRORS

I thought that the competition runner-up was the best text story we've had in the Megazine yet.

Dude, these are absolutely amazing!

Are they going to be in colour or are these finished?

Lastly, what is the judge's name in the second picture (the one being killed), is that you?

Congratulations anyway, you must be chuffed to bits!

Does it matter?

What was your favourite scene in the film (other than the one discussed in the last five pages)?

Case Files and Psi Files.
I'm a completist.

QuoteDREDD 3D is a vile, inhumane and horrifically violent movie from beginning to end, with abundant foul language.

Sounds like a very positive review to me... I'd go and see it (if I hadn't already, twice).

If I was Alex Garland I would be delighted.

Apologies Molch-R, I may have got carried away.

Quotethe editor(s) of the time, whatever iffy stories were commissioned, did manage to keep the comic going

The comic survived in spite of, not because of, the editor at the time. It was not until David Bishop took over in 1996 and dragged the comic back up to its usual standard, and subsequently got the comic sold to Revellion, that its survival was assured. But at the time I suspect it was a close-run thing. In fact, in "Judge Dredd: the Mega-History," (a precursor to Thrillpower Overload published in the 90s) it says that sales had fallen so low that 2000AD was not expected to exist by the end of that decade.

Jesus, reading that list of names gives me shudders. I had happily forgotten about most of them. The fact that they entrusted those people with Judge Dredd, supposedly the comic's flagship strip, really makes me think that the editor at the time totally didn't give a fuck about Dredd, 2000 AD, the fans or his own job. He should have been executed by being drowned in his own excrement. I don't know how the comic even survived that period.

SBT, really? I think that Inferno had Carlos Ezquerra's best art (much better than in Purgatory if that's what you were worried about).

The Pit won't be in the Case Files until 22 or possibly even 23, which are still some way off. But if that still seems too soon for you then there are plenty of more recent stories worth getting, especially America since that will never be in the Case Files.

Mandroid, Origins, Chief Judge's Man, Doomsday, people will suggest some others too.

Books & Comics / Re: The Chief Judge's Man, any good?

I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not it adds anything to Dredd continuity if I were you. A story is either good or it isn't, and this one is great, with great art too. And being a self-contained story is actually an advantage, as you won't have to buy anything else for it to make sense.

Help! / Re: Case files or not?

QuoteThankfully, 2000AD hasn't often featured "adult" strips with "references to rape" and "extreme violence" of the kind that would warrant a "not for kids" rating. So maybe if that's the only reason they liked the movie, they'd be better off going elsewhere for their comics. On the other hand, if they liked the character and the set-up, then they'd like pretty much any of the strips mentioned above.

Leaving aside the non-consensual sex we saw in Lenny Zero a few weeks ago, I didn't actually suggest that extreme violence and rape were the only reason why people liked the film. Please don't put words in my mouth.

What I am saying is that those are the reasons why kids were not allowed to see the film and so (ignoring the few kids who may have sneaked in or seen a pirate copy online) the only people who saw it were adults who might not necessarily expect or want to read comics aimed primarily at young children but who were hoping instead to read mature comics aimed primarily at over-18s.

Consequently if on the strength of the film they ask us to recommend a Judge Dredd comic story to introduce them to the character who inspired the film, we might do better to point them towards, say, "America" or "Mandroid" rather than, say, "A Tale From Walter's Scrapbook." That's all.
