General / What happens next week in Death
29 May, 2002, 10:35:07 PM
As it's the last one i reckon it's a shock ending with Anderson actually snuffing it or Death vanishes taking her with him and we're left not knowing where to or if she's alive.
Personally i'd go for her buying it - it'd fit right in with the grim 'n gritty tone and - in my opinion - she's had her day anyway.

General / Judge Death colour - final verdict
24 May, 2002, 09:45:37 PM
Well, he's all done and primed up ready for painting tomorrow.
Thanks for the feedback on potential colour scheme's - i've decided to go with the following:
Skin - grey greeny tones. The latest Batman: Gotham Nights has a brilliant Brian Bolland cover of ol' Bats in amongst a swarm of zombies and that's what i'm going for.
Tunic - matt black with dark grey highlights.
Kneepads, armpads and belt - dark green.
Shoulder pads and badge - sick looking flesh tones.
Helmet - going gloss. I'm going to make a section of a Mega City One building to put him against for some photos and the gloss will make a nice contrast to the rest.
In answer to PVS, it's not really a sculpture - i've taken the Death 1/6th vinyl kit (you know - the one with the terrible pose of him with arms outstretched, head back and mouth open. Looks like he's giving a Tarzan yodel) and reposed it to match the drawing of him on the front of the hardback Dredd collection. Took a bit of hacking and resculpting to get there but he's done - all i need is the right size black marble to stick on his belt for the dimension jump.
When the photo's are back i'll be doing a piece for the features section of this site i think.

General / Artistic Interpretation
24 May, 2002, 04:12:08 AM
While the merits of Frazer Irvings round helmet (!) is being discussed, whatever happened to his chin having a bit of stubble? You know, those single hairs that were the thickness of paperclips. Kind of liked that. Any reason it was dropped or is it the old artistic license again?

General / Wot colours Death - u vote!
23 May, 2002, 02:12:41 PM
I'm working on a Judge Death sculpture and when he's finished the chap will need painting. I've got an idea what i'm going to do colour wise but as there's been so many variations over the years i thought it'd be interesting to see what you lot think he should be like.
Options are:
SKIN - this is down to the green or greys as seen in the progs or what about a more realistic cadavar/zombie look of flesh tones with reds and purples mixed in?
UNIFORM - the early prog covers had him wearing the a uniform that matched the regular judges in colour and brightness. So is that best or a dirtier, rotten look or would it be best to abandon the colour scheme completly and go for earthy tones?
HELMET - In his early stories he had a really shiny one (so to speak). Go with that or a dull ancient looking one?
Thoughts would be appreciated.

General / Foundry Figures Finished
22 May, 2002, 04:26:28 PM
Well that's them done. Wot i thunk:
Dredd - best of the lot, good pose and decent size chin. It's not till you paint the badge that it becomes apparent that his name's on it! Slightly bigger than the Games Workshop version. Went with dark blue rather than a black body suit.
Alpha - everythings pretty accurate apart from the studs on the left shoulder pad - if the sculptor can get the holsters just right, along with the buckles and clasps, how come he falls down there? Painted him in the classic colour scheme but i dunno - something that looks fine in the comic doesn't look so convincing in 3D.
Mean - nice bit of work with an excellent arm. The dials there but i'll be buggered if i'm going to put the numbers on.
Slaine - still the weakest. Sorted out that stubble problem but now his hair is giving me trouble. Its just as spikey as it should be but doesn't look right. Didn't have the problem with the Lee Ames 1/6th kit of the chap so maybe it's a question of scale?
Craft to accompiny the figures would be cool and if done in injection plastic would be affordable but i found, when making dioramas for the Games Workshop figures, that Zoid toys when painted up to look realistic fitted very well. Still can find them at boot sales.

General / How big's a Mek Quake?
21 May, 2002, 01:42:41 AM
In reply to one of the threads in the "Foundry Figure's Future" topic, i guess if Foundry go ahead with the promised ABC Warriors and include a Mek Quake then he'd have to be done in resin. You're talking about a figure around 10cm tall and 7cm high and in white metal that'd be bloody expensive. In resin with a white metal cobra neck would be about 25 quid which i'd certainly pay.
If they do go down that road i hope they stick to the classic line-up and not some of the dodgier members, like that Samurai guy and the one with the pointy snout. Wouldn't mind a Terri though....
Just finishing off those first 4 figures and they paint up really well with Dredd being the best and Slaine the worst - the sculpted on stubble is really pronounced and as soon as paint touches it, he's got a beard. Cool screaming lance though.

General / Thanks to Jock and Siku
20 May, 2002, 12:46:52 AM
Yeah, cheers for the Lenny Zero sketch Jock and thanks to Siku for the Becky Steel one. Ta also to Andy Diggle for bending your ear. Reckon London Expo worked really well and here's to the next one.

General / Foundrys Figure Future
19 May, 2002, 01:37:10 PM
We went to Foundrys Nottihgham base yesterday and picked up some of the figures.
Talking to the guy there, he reckons the futures rosey for the 2000 AD line with street Judges out soon, Judge Giant, Apocolypse Judges, a resin Lawmaster and a set of ABC Warriors. Bizzarly, the chummie reckons the next release of Judges will be more like 54mm figures as "all Judges are over 7 feet tall".

General / Problem with Death
16 May, 2002, 03:02:14 PM
Yeah, i'll go along with everyone's verdict about how cool the new story is, great art and how refreshing it is to see him go back towards more of a horror tale. One things bugging me though. That first episode where reference is made to the Dark Judges being transported to the facility during "Die Laughing". I guess that means that the Batman (and for that matter, Predator) crossovers are part of Dredd continuity?
Bummer.
I was kind of hoping they were stand alone tales, sort of like the old Marvel "What If's". As it stands now, this means the last apperance of the hideous unstoppable killing machine was riding a rollercoaster with the Joker??? Sorry, but i'd rather each comic company have their own universe with crossovers in them but not others. It's like that stupid notion that all Marvel and DC character live in the same America - and in a lot of cases the same city - but they never bump in to each other.

General / How much for a Dare?
13 May, 2002, 06:09:50 AM
Does anyone know how much that Dan Dare poster mag with the Belardinelli art of Dare in London goes for these days?
I don't want to sell mine - it's just that it's never mentioned and i never see it for sale anywhere and i was just wondering.

General / Say it ain't so!
11 May, 2002, 06:39:28 PM
Two things that really hack me off in this life are students and bloody film bores. So thanks Tharg SO much for the latest tale. It's bad enough that i have to endure fanboy witterings in the comic shop each week but i can get through it. Time to leave though is when they start quoting dialogue from an oh so obvious fanboy fave.
Now i'm funding a printed version? Looks like every week from now on will be a 3 tale prog like last week for me.

General / 13
05 May, 2002, 02:43:42 PM
Thought it got off to a good start and has potential (mind you, thought that about Shakara) and loved the artwork. Has this guy done anything else in the progs? Reckon its reminiscent of Glenn Fabrys linework on Slaine (aahh, they were the days).
By the way, since when has the church in Denmark street been bombed out?

General / Death lives
03 May, 2002, 11:25:46 PM
Has Death really been out of the picture since "Die Laughing"?
Hope this tale is a return to form - re-reading the first tales in the hardback graphic novel shows how much better he and his cronies are when there's more serious than humour. I mean, give me them over Bats, Young Death and Mrs Gunderstiens any day.
Still, Irvings work's nice and dark so here's hoping..

General / Thoughts on the latest artwork
09 February, 2002, 03:02:29 PM
With a different artist doing Shakara (i take it that is his name?) on the cover, could it be we're given some clues to the guy?
For instance, i never really spotted in the Flint artwork that his mouth is strapped shut. The red eyes look like lenses. His armour is very organic looking now. Whats with that SD badge looking thing on his chest? Looks like an eye to me.
Relevant or not? Time will tell.
Loved the artwork in the last 2 Megazine Dredds by Wayne Reynolds. Is this a new guy? He's got a real "American" feel to his work. More please.

General / Where are they?
22 January, 2002, 03:43:38 AM
As i said in my other missive, i've been away from the prog for a couple of years.
So excuse my ignorance as i ask: What happened to the second wave of 2000 AD action figures?

General / Wot's it like?
21 January, 2002, 06:19:40 PM
Can anyone help out?
I'm writing a short story and need to know the state of England in the time of Dredd, the South especially.
I only came back to 2000 AD last year after a couple of years away.
Has Dredd blown any of it up in the interim?
