2000AD Swearwords - research grant acquired...

"I'm a statistics freak myself"

Okay for this ace poll suggested by MikeD I want ten 2000AD swear words from as many strips as possible, and their sources.  So please think long and hard and hurry the drokk up, polls don't make themselves you know!

What is you favourite 2000AD Futuristic Funtin' expletive?
Smuntfuntin' (Sinister Dexter?)
Dirtwad (D.R. & Quinch)
Drokk (Dredd)
Stomm (Dredd)
Dok (Dredd)
Grud (Dredd)
Sneck (?)
Fuoco (Dante)
Grud On A Greenie (Dredd)
Judas B Christ (Dredd?)
Quaequam Blag (Tharg)
Shuggles (?)
Tenuous (as they are actually more puns than futuristic jargon)
Kiss my axe (Slaine)
Dastard (Nemesis)

Mudcrab

Sneck was common in Strontium Dog.

Jesus B. Christ in Finnegan Sinister, without a 1000 variations thereof! My personal favourite from SD is FUNTWIPE

Shuggles was Grobbendonk, as was Oh Fie, although that's an olde worlde sort of saying I think.

There's Atavar with 'shit'. Oh, hold on...
NEGOTIATION'S OVER!

Trout

Grud on a greenie should really be credited to Anderson, but it's nothing like as much fun as funtwipe!

We should include something from Halo
**** Aaaaah... Halo.... so lovely.... ****
Jones, but as I'm at work I can't look up anything they shouted.

There was so much future slang in it, there must be an expletive somewhere.

Anyway, glad you like the idea, PVS

MikeD

JTurner

I remember 'Truck' in Nemesis.
Also 'Grud' from Dredd

Art

"Dastard" is a word, its just archaic. As such I don't really think it qualifies.

Oddboy

Isn't Fuoco an actual Russian word?
I always assumed it was but I don't know seeing as how I can't speak Russian.
Better set your phaser to stun.

Trout

Another suggestion - and this is a cool one!

The Norts in Rogue Trooper would die with a shout of:

"STAK!"

Oh, lovely!

MikeD

The Love Doctor

"Diavolo" was a good Dante one. Often mumbled as something big appears on the horizon and yells "We are da imperial gunship" or some such.

paulvonscott

Yup I'm quite aware of that, as in Dick Dastardly!

However it was really used by Pat Mills as a replacement for B*stard, as such it was a real world used for pun like qualities.

But yes, quite right, it disnae really count.

"I'm a statistics freak myself"

Here we are, I have ten, I'd like some from strips not mentioned if at all possible, otherwise I'll post this up later on.

Cheers

Drokk (Dredd)

Grud (Dredd)
Dirtwad (D.R. & Quinch)
Sneck (Strontium Dog)
Quaequam Blag (Tharg)
Fuoco (Dante)

Stak! (Rogue Trooper)
Funt (Sinister Dexter)

Diavolo (Nikky Dante)
Shmoo (Halo Jones)
Skatt (Halo Jones)

Judas B Christ (Sinister Dexter)
Dok (Dredd)

Tenuous (as they are actually more puns than futuristic jargon)
Kiss my axe (Slaine)
Dastard (Nemesis)

No ATAVAR language allowed!  Let's keep it civilised you dirtwads!

JTurner

Does Diavolo count? It's a real word after all.

Trout

All of those are great, apart from dirtwad, which isn't really exclusive to the comic strip where it was used.

I know fuoco isn't either, but it is a strong characteristic of the Dante character, as one of his catchphrases.

How about we include something from space truckers' lingo?

MikeD

McNulty

paulvonscott

Was dirtwad some sort of 50's U.S. slang?

I suspect Fuoco and Diavolo may be real words.

Hooting Heck is good, nice to have one from Garp.  They aren't actually that many memorable ones from halo Jones.  I supsect I know what skatt means though :)

Jayzus B. Christ

My name wasn't inspired by Sinister Dexter, i swear to, er, Christ. In fact, i don't think it was ever even in the strip: Doesn't Finnigan usually replace the Christ with a dodgy pun that follows the middle initial, e.g. Jesus G. String?
In fact, I'll start a new competition here: Anyone who can tell me if and when 'Jesus B. Christ' was uttered in Sinister Dexter, I will send them two billion pounds, no questions asked.

As for Halo Jones, does anyone remember the swearword 'Cheeses'?
