biting down hard on a venom spattered rant about how every fucking twat out there is happy to look at porn, but girls/women who work in the 'sex industry' are just throw away disposable meat, lets all crack jokes about it etc etc

however... its a bit wierd how all of this myspace info etc has been allowed out before any trial, i'd hate to see the person guilty get away cos of media prejudice.

From my experience there isn't a god awful tragedy in the world that people don't make jokes about.

At the same time, I'm sure there are lots of people who will use the womens deaths to promote their own agendas.

Does either mean any reasonable person thinks it's acceptable for five women to be killed because they worked as prostitutes? The answer is no.

JimBob

The whole job has a disturbing post-modern feeling to it IF the suspect is guilty. The suspect comes accross as if he's consumed masses of true crime material and the media are treating it like an episode of Prime suspect. In pubs the last few nights everyone seems to see themself as an expert on the subject.
The information about the suspect is also a fairly unique situation. He'd been interviewed when the first victim was missing (fairly standard procedure in that case) and a couple of times since, although only once under caution.
The papers got wind of this and as no arrest took place he made a munber of press interviews. Now he has been arrested I'ld expect an information black hole to begin to allow a fair trial if charged. If a similar delugee of info appears on the 2nd detained male then the media are seriously risking a fair trial and possible contempt of court following charge.

If he isn't guilty, the media coverage and the release of tapes not meant for broadcast means that his life has been somewhat ruined.

If he is guilty then no doubt we'll never hear the end of him as the tabloids dig up one more irrelevant story after the next about him in jail until he dies.  And that doesn't stop them.

I've had to start turning the news off (I normally have my TV on News 24 by default), because I can't watch it anymore.  It seems more like entertainment than news.

JimBob

I'ld agree with that assesment, but the odd thing is he has deliberately placed himself at the centre of the media storm prior to arrest, almsot suggesting at times that he should be arrested. Which ever wyath ejob goes it's one a lot of lessons can be learnt from already.

Pete Wells

Yeah, it's round about this time of year when at least one tabloid runs a shocking "Convicted Killers get a really nice Christmas Dinner" story.

Lazy, ignorant journalism at it's worst.

Concrete Block 15

It'd be a bit pointless running that headline at any other time of year though, eh? ;-)

Steve Green

I'm trying to remember what the media were like before 24-hour news channels.

I watch a lot of News 24, but I tend to turn it off when stories like this happen as well, as they just binge on the event, regardless of whether there's any news or not.

I was quite surprised that they broadcast that interview they'd made with the guy, with some pathetic excuse that it was in the public interest. I would have thought not prejudicing a potential trial might have had a slightly higher priority.

Still, at least you've got Littlejohn to tell people what to think.

Ah Littlejohn, a (fat) face you'ld never get bored of hititng. Anyone else convinced he's a massive self hating closet case who's particularly attracted to asylum seekers? either that or a clever socialist mole discrediting conservative thought from the inside? surely no one can hate that much all year round?

Matt Timson

"...but in the scheme of things the deaths of these five women is no great loss".

What a cunt...
Pffft...

Richmond Clements

You're right Jones, he's a fucking cunt.
A total fucking a fucking asshole of the highest order, in fact.

You should really go back to wanking over 16 year old topless girl in the Daily Star in your parents spare room.
You fucking cunt.

JimBob

what i want to know is what he thinks he's contributed to society, other than bile and hatred. Would any one miss him? Other than Ginsters shareholders?

Matt Timson

What, me?

;)

"I was quite surprised that they broadcast that interview they'd made with the guy"

I thought it quite ironic that they have blurred out the Birds logo while showing the presumed innocent man in pefect clarity - they wouldn't want to have the name of the custard manufactured to be blighted.
