After being a committed (and probably committable) Judge Dredd/2000AD fan for 30 years, I'm well excited to post a childhood dream of mine...

The IDW folks were down in Australia a few weeks ago and were looking for some new talent - thought I'd try my luck and see how it went.

I managed to convince Chris Ryall - who was a lovely fellow, I have to say - to give me the chance to have a go at an illustration of Dredd as a tryout...

It seemed to go well - they've decided to use it as a cover for issue#26 of the IDW Judge Dredd series..!

So there you go - my stab at Dredd.  Hopefully there'll be more opportunities in the future - but super thrilled to have had the chance...  Hope you all like it!

...now I just need to convince Tharg to give me a stab in a future prog...!

(P.S. I can't actually attach the image - if anyone out there can and feels like posting it, that'd be fantastic.  Cheers!)

Good work, Sexton (Ming). Your Dredd reminds me of Mike Collins's take on the character, and you do background detail like Chris Weston - both of those are good things! Presumably the Richard Dawkins underpass goes down onto the Dale Winton Underhang (last seen in Wagner and MacNeil's Megacity Confidential):

Is the word "Law" that Dredd's standing on meant to be graffiti or coincidentally aligned blood stains?

Well done Mark. Like the great philosopher Gabrielle once said, "Dreams can come true."
Whatever happened to Rico, Dolman and Cadet Paris? I'm sooo out of the loop.

I'm disappointed that Dredd isn't standing four-square on justice, discipline, good order, and the rigid application of the law. Would that really have been so hard to depict in a literal sense?

How about a bloodied corpse covered by a soiled Old Glory?

What I really like about that Dredd is that it doesn't really look like anyone else's.  I can see why Sauchie invokes Collins, but for me that's really only something about the fizziog - the whole thing looks very fresh and original. Like.

Thanks for the kind words folks (and to sauchie for posting the picture - there's a colour version somewhere too - and yes, Dash, it's blood - see colour version for better detail)!

I'll take any comments that invoke 2000AD creators as a bonus - particularly the Weston droid, he has been a big influence on me over the last few years (and a lovely droid he is, too)...

I'll try harder to draw Dredd standing on justice, discipline, good order, and the rigid application of the law next time...  ;)

Excellent work inkymonkey!

Hope to see more of your work (particularly Dredd) in the future!   :)

Looks like a fine burgundy to me, mate. The palette reminds me of Gina Hart, who was the nineties equivalent of Chris Blythe:
