no-one seems to want to do anything about it.

Unlike Mexico where the goverment has been infiltrated by Drug Lords who definatly want to run things for themselves! Now that's scary.

Who do you trust when your fellow officers,Captains etc have been bribed or coerced into betraying 'loyal' colleagues to the assassins? I understand (relying on several media reports )that some of the killers are Ex Special forces or other policemen.
Lovely eh?

I tend to buy it now and again (sinner!). Well money's a bit tight at the moment.

I'm sure their was an early Dredd story about some awful game show where you betted your wife/life/mother-in-Law against answering some obscure question correctly. Looks like 2000A.D saw it all coming years ago but it's horrible to find that real life is imitating art.

I think Brazil is one of the most violent places on the planet and one of it's cities is actually described as a Mega City by the U.N. Can't remember which one off hand.

Life spugs because everything that could go wrong -did go wrong! My computer vaped itself and I had to get a new one that took me ages to get up and running. Ah well hopefully the worst is behind me now.(SIGH)

Great tale Van Dom nice twist and thanks to locusts for his thumbs up to my scatterbrained story. As for the legendary_shark he's off to a fine start already. Richard Fields is very topical a chilling remainder of the misery war inflicts on it's participants. Good stuff!

More madness from my diseased mind.

PHILOSOPHY

He felt somehow out of place.

'...and of course as Sartre said we are beyond good and evil. '

The man who had spoken smiled at his fellow members of the discussion group as they  sat on reclining leather chairs inside the luxurious Vid-TV debating room.  The others nodded in agreement making sycophantic comments to the Tv Host. The host smiled back jollying the other's with a royal wave acknowledging their praise.

He felt completely lost about the whole thing. Who were these people? He stiffened in his chair feeling out of his depth, embarrassed-no angry. He was feeling angry towards these smug media types.

'B'stiches!'

The word slipped out. It seemed familiar yet he couldn't remember where he had heard it before. A shocked silence had descended upon the group. He felt their eyes fix upon him examining him like he was some mutie or somethin'. Some low down, mutie scoundrel. His anger grew, multiplied.

' I 'z a'goin up to two on youse,  folks! '  he snarled and as his fury exploded he felt something break within him and suddenly- he knew!

+                                         +                                                                                                   +                                 +

Med Judge Dr Heidrich Descartes monitored the Nietzsche/Vellian Mind probe checking that it's A.I Virtual unit and other software was working.  Descartes, a recent graduate from the Justice Department's criminal rehabilatation programme had been keen to prove that no criminal was beyond redemption and what better way of showing this than 'modifying' the reactionary deviant headbutter known as Mean Machine Angel. The programme would take Mean on an inward philosophical journey, confronting him with his inner anger allowing him to assert control over those feelings and hopefully improve his behaviour. Using Mean's sleeping periods helped though the sedatives Descartes used were reassuringly powerful.

Descartes smiled remembering the scorn of his fellow Judges. It was impossible they said Mean's beyond saving. Soon they would be getting a face full of Descartes when he rose throught the ranks leaving the little people behind him. His 'Chief Judge or bust!' poster gazed down at him from the lab wall as his lonely vigil continued.

'Chief Judge' Descartes thought ' due to my own rational, non narcissistic belief in my own genius!'

Happy at his future prospects he turned from the monitor and was checking the auxillary power unit's fluctuation outage when the sound of tearing metal from behind brought him smartly round.

Mean machine Angel tore the Nietzsche/Vellian probe from his head his imposing bulk towering over the horrified Med Judge. Descartes, mouth agape felt himself shrinking in awe in front of this most brutal of miscreant's, his mind racing trying to think of something to say. It was Mean Angel that spoke however.

'How'de Judge. 'Now's howse about you and me discuss fi-lo -so-fe!

Mean toggled his head switch up to four.....

My story idea is very similar to Jim's yet the outcome is very different. Here we go

DREAMTIME

The street gang fired at him as he used the 'crete pillars for cover. He shot back a strafing attack. The gang was hunkerd down behind the  shot up Mega-City cleaning truck they had stolen to ram raid the Mega-Mall.

Despite all the fusillades of shots he could feel it, the one thing that made the risk worth while.

He could feel their fear.

He tossed the grenade under the Cleaning truck's leaking fuel tank and then stepped out just a second before the grenade detonated. He watched the gangers move out firing from their concealed postions- right into the path of the explosion. The shockwave blew the gang member's bodies all over the place but he couldn't resist firing his gun at the flaming corpses. He fired until his gun was empty and-

Judge Harker woke-keen, refreshed. Quickly he moved to grab his badge, uniform and Lawgiver from the adjoining rest room and hit the streets.

*                               *                                    *

Judge Harker raked the surviving street gang members with lead jacketed death. Rizello Block was notorious for inter-gang violence and Harker had arrived in the middle of a face off between the 'BADBLOOD-MUTHA'S' and their deadly rivals the 'BADBLOOD-DADDIES'. Terrified residents looked down from their habs as Harker finished off the last of the MUTHA's. Now for the DADDIES.

Harker felt the battle lust as he fired armour piercing rounds into the two body guards of the DADDIES leader Papa DOG Butt. Dog Butt himself, already badly wounded held onto his expensive pistol as he half slumped from the passenger door of his chrome plated Tecnical.  Leaking fuel from the fuel tank formed a moat around the wrecked vehicle.

Their eyes met. Pap Dog Butt grimaced at the Judge's lawgiver trained unwaveringly on him.

'Alright, Lawman' shouted Dog.' I surrender!'

Harker glanced up at the cowering faces of the hab dwellers and at the crowds of onlookers who were gathering. Dog Butt had ruled this area with with intimadation and terror.

That was the Judges job Harker felt.Only Justice Department had the right to terrorize the citizen's of Mega City. An example had to be made.

'Incendiary.' he said out loud so Dog Butt and the onlookers understood what was coming.

The incendiary round exploded in the fuel tank enveloping the technical in a blast of fire. Out of this firestorm was flung the screaming, burning body of Papa Dog Butt. He landed and rolled just before the feet of Judge Harker.

'Do you know what I'm doing?' smiled Harker indifferently at the burnt, still smoking face of Dog Butt.

'I'm living the dream!' answered Judge Harker as he fired repeatly into the body of the DADDIES leader. Harker felt good. He could feel the on looker's fear and that pleased him. Yes it didn't get better than this!

How could dreams compete when the reality on the streets was even better?

Judge Harker fired until his gun was empty.

Games Workshop has such a massive library of stuff they'll be bringing out games till doomsday. I think there's an upcoming Space marine game that looks a bit like 'Gears of War' meets 'Lord of the Rings'. Wild.

Must look out for this as I think Al Ewing is great. His 'orrible story about the former Citi-Def soldier's questionable psychology was deliciously sour.
