I've finally managed to get a copy of the latest Dreamwatch and they are talking about the new Judge Dredd movies which are in the planning. Once again I hear them harping on about how they are going to remain true to the Judge Dredd Universe and adding, that in their version, Dredd will not take his helmet off, as if that would somehow add to the continuity. When I realized how seriously they were taking it, saying that due to this fact they would not be able to have a big name star, I suddenly realized how ridiculous that sounded. OOOHHH NOOOO we can't have Dredd taking his helmet off, he never does in the comic..... well why the hell not? Was it a conscious effort by the creators or is it something that just happened and they stuck with it, because in my opinion, it doesn't add anything to the character, in fact it takes something away. Isn't it about time Dredd took his helmet off? I'm curious to see what he looks like, I'm curious to see how he reacts to certain situations. I'm sure you could do a lot more with the character if you can relate to him, I mean who can relate to a helmet. I personally don't want to see Rico taking over from Dredd in the future. I don't see why they have to have him ageing naturally with the comic, after all, it is fantasy. They just need to take him in another direction and what a perfect opportunity, lets take his helmet off and keep it off where necessary (as long as it's artistically important to the plot). Too much is being made about keeping it on, it's old hat and it's boring. I would personally be excited to see Dredds face and I think it would make the stories much more interesting. And while I'm on the subject, lets tone down the shoulder pads, they are way to big, In fact his whole costume could do with an upgrade and again, why not? Why does he have to stay the same for the next 25 years? As far as the new movies are concerned, there are far more important things to concentrate on with regards to the continuity of his Universe, than whether he keeps his helmet on or not.

And while I'm here, I just realized who would make a great Judge Dredd, he's perfect and I think he could carry it off, he has the jaw and he has the voice and he has the height. Who? I hear you ask George Cloony, think about it, he's perfect.

Help! / Dreamwatch - Dredd film report
03 March, 2003, 04:34:36 PM
I have been into every newsagent in North London and been laughed out of most of them when I asked for a copy of Dreamwatch, no one is stocking it. I would be grateful if whoever has a copy could find a contact number for me so that I can order one over the phone.

Thanks very much (I don't like being laughed at!)

Suggestions / WE DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER!!!
13 February, 2003, 09:46:53 PM
I know that I am an infrequnt visitor to this site but I've just realized that we know very little about each other. To put this straight, I think there are some important facts that we should know, in order to find out what the demographic is. In light of this, can everyone who is interested answer the following, (I will start you off by including my details):

1) Age - 37
2) How long have you been reading 2000AD - 25 years
3) What country are you based in - England
4) Married/single - Single
5) Occupation - Running a website www.discarray.com
6) Male/Female - Male
7) Ethnic origin - White UK

You might be asking why I've asked these questions but I think it will give us a better idea of who is visiting the board, although my main reason is, I'm wondering how many people from outside the UK visit the board and also are fans of 2000AD.

If you can think of any other little bits of information that might be interesting, just add them to the list. (Keep it clean people!)

I know this is off topic but I'm so excited I want to share my news with the world.

As some of you know I have my own website (www.discarray.com) from which I sell Discarrays (Picture Frames which you can use to display the actual discs from your CD collection, made from suede and aluminium) About two months ago I sold one to Tunde, the lead singer of the Lighthouse Family and last week I went to the comedy theatre, where Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame is performing and presented her with the latest Discarray, at the same time reminding her that we were at school together (Coleridge in Crouch End, North London. Yes it's true!) She loved it and I have booked tickets for the show tonight in the hope that she may let me photograph her with the Discarray.

Anyway, I'm sure you have all seen through my flimsy excuse to advertise my website but it's just been updated and I have four great new style Discarrays in stock. Go have a look (see link below)

Help! / Two questions
30 January, 2003, 11:11:20 PM
I noticed on the letters page in this weeks 2000AD one of the readers had received a goodies pack at Christmas which included the latest prog, the Megazine and 2000AD Gold 001. What is 2000AD Gold 001?

Also, is the current story line Judge Dredd/Aliens being released in America in a compiled format? If so is it available in the UK yet?

Cheers

General / Judge Dredd video game
20 December, 2002, 04:52:22 AM
I've just read in prog 2003 that the Judge Dredd video game is not due for release until Christmas 2003. I thought it was being released January 2003. What's the story? Has it been delayed?

News / I know I should'nt do this but........
20 November, 2002, 12:41:16 AM
Now I know I should'nt do this but as a sometime visitor to this site and huge 2000AD fan I would like to plug my own site.

I am selling picture frames that you can use to display the actual discs from your CD collection. I have just had an amazing review in the Sunday Express S magazine (2 Sundays ago) where Laurence llewelyn-Bowen recommended it as an ideal Christmas present and that is why I am posting this now. If you're stuck for something to buy someone this Christmas, there is nothing else like it on the market and it's very original. Also they look stunning filled with discs and hanging on the wall above your hi-fi. If you're interested, I guarantee delivery before Christmas if you place your order before 15th December. Have a look at the link below.

Cheers and a merry Christmas to you all.

I went out tonight but my final bid before I left was ?102.50. I was confident that no one would out bid me, but when I got home.........see the link below.

General / Judge Dredd/Aliens Incubus
10 October, 2002, 05:56:13 PM
Does anyone know if the soon to be featured (Judge Dredd/Aliens Incubus) in 2000AD is a reprint or new material.

If it's new material, surely it should have been released in a comic of it's own.

General / I won't let this rest - re: Judge Dredd Films
19 September, 2002, 11:52:00 PM
I have recently been corresponding with Scojo (he's not such a bad guy)with regards to the two proposed Judge Dredd films, does nobody on this site have any concerns, (where have all the Dredd Heads gone?)

To save me typing this out again, I have pasted my last email to Scojo below, what does everyone else think?

Dear Scojo

Your email did reach me, and alas no response from Shoreline.

I understand your fears regarding the movie being made but I'm ever the optimist and think that these things just take time and can be held in limbo for years, the only glimmer of hope that I can see is that Shoreline are still advertising the movies on their homepage.

But as well as being an optimist, I'm also a sceptic. Why is the script for the first suggested movie so close to the original, actually "so close" doesn't begin to described how similar it is, it's virtually identical? When I read the synopsis I felt that someone was taking the piss and that this was not for real. Also it doesn't sound very good either, the 2nd Judge Death one sounds much better. With reference to me being a sceptic, this whole thing sounds like a set up to me and I will list why I think so:

(1) Shoreline just don't make these type of films and have never been involved in a similar project, why now and why take a gamble on a follow up to a film that was not the greatest success in the first place, (although I am of the school, believing that it wasn't so bad, I am a Stallone fan but he  ruined it for me, Arney would have been much better, he could have carried it off)

(2)   Could this whole thing be a ploy by Rebellion to help raise the profile of Judge Dredd and 2000AD, especially since they are soon to release a Judge Dredd video game that they have spent a great deal of time and money on?

(3) Rebellion are strangly quiet on this front and have been for a long time, surely we should be getting regular updates.

(4) I read somewhere that the game was planned for release at the same time as the movie but this doesn't look likely.

Maybe it's just me but I live in hope, as I would love to see to see 2000AD and it's stable of characters eclipe the American market. I'm aged 37 now and have been collecting comics since I was 9. I believed that I would carry on collecting forever but Marvel and DC destroyed the fun for me with all their cross over stories, making you buy six different titles so that you could follow one story. I wasn't prepared to buy so many titles and so realised that I was reading comics like a robot and maybe only enjoying the artwork, since I had no idea what the story was about. I don't read any DC titles now and only a handful of the X-titles and of course 2000AD.

Anyway, I digress, back to your question. Although I haven't heard from Shoreline, these are their contact details, maybe a hand written letter from you might help:

Morris Ruskin
Shoreline Entertainment, Inc
1875 Century Park East, Ste. 600
Los Angeles, CA 90067

Also have you tried asking Rebellion what's happening? and if so what did they say? I haven't got round to it yet.

Cheers - Tarantino

Help! / We need to work together to find an answer!
13 September, 2002, 07:08:01 PM
I mentioned before that I had sent Shoreline an email asking them at what stage were the two new Judge Dredd movies but I have not had a response.

The Shoreline link is below, if we all get together and individually send them an email asking the same question Re: the movies, then possibly we will get an answer. Everyone should ask them to post the answer on the message board.

Anyone who emails Shoreline, leave a note here so that we can see what kind of a barrage they will get.

Help! / Something that's been bugging me for years.
12 September, 2002, 01:06:57 AM
Carlos Ezquerra was credited with helping to create Judge Dredd but apparently he only started drawing him from issue 5 of 2000AD. My problem is that issues 2, 3 & 4 look like they were drawn by the same artist, although there were no credits within the comic I belive that it must have been Carlos who drew him. If you have those issues compare the art, it's not just similar but identical.

You probably don't need to answer this since I won't belive anyone who tells me that they were drawn by two different artists, I'm just using this message board to get it off my chest and draw attention to this discrepancy, but really what do you guys think?

Help! / Shoreline - Judge Dredd Films!!!!!
10 September, 2002, 11:17:40 PM
Is it me or has it been strangely quiet on the Judge Dredd film front (say that ten times fast) but seriously, it's been well over a year since they mentioned that Shoreline were in post production and since then nothing. Shorelines website remains the same, with the two scripts posted on their home page, including that dreadful (excuse the pun) rehash of the Stallone script.

Has anyone got any concrete info (no rumours about Jean Reno please) regarding what stage they are at.

Anything that can give us hope that this project has not been abandoned.

General / I'll be honest this time
18 August, 2002, 07:20:06 PM
I know some of you will remember the last time I posted this link, I pretended to be a customer. Well not this time, I learned my lesson. This is my site and I have just got the patent for a picture frame that you can use to display your CDs, so I developed the site to sell them over the internet. You can visit the site via the link below, I would be interested to hear anyones comments, positive or negative. I'm posting this again since I have updated the site and would like to know what people think
