U.2. The Joshua Tree. Sold over 25 million copies. Their best album, and maybe one of the best albums ever?

Now I have to drive to work rather than train it, I've been digging out old CDs to listen to, mostly from my 1990s teen years. Apart from the usual Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc. one which stands out is Pony Express Record by Shudder to Think. The first time I heard it (1994) I hated it but it's one of those that grows and grows and it's an all time favourite now. Recommended for people who like angular, disjointed guitar and weird lyrics.

For the heaviest of heavy metal: City or Alien by Strapping Young Lad (for the angry drive home).

The Smiths : "Strangeways Here We Come"

40 minutes odd of quality depression pressed onto plastic. Cheer up lads!

That sounds good to me (Shudder to Think) and I've been meaning to check out Strapping Young Lad for a while, if I can say that without saying ooer missus.

My current favourite recently discovered band is Yob, basically sludgy psychedelic doom.  :D

The song Quantum Mystic is described (by me) as a cross between the Melvins, Rush and the Doctor Who theme (kinda like how Pink Floyd did it but just the bass really). Very like early Soundgarden too, though sounding like the Melvins kind of covers that too.

Heading to Alexandra Palace in May to see them along with Wolves in the Throne Room, Melvins, Sleep(!) and Slayer playing Reign in Blood.

What with that, Electric Wizard in March and Meshuggah in April it's turning into a pretty top year for gigs! If you like that kind of thing of course.

I really enjoyed that, a real good groove. It reminded me of Earthless, if you've ever heard them. If not check out this 20min (wordless) epic:

Envious that Lobster is seeing Sleep. I think Om, some of Sleep's other band are great. Getting all these recommendations is brilliant since I know precisely no-one into the same music as me and there's never any time to trawl endlessly through Youtube links.

"If You Want to Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song". by the Icicle Works, I love this post punk stuff.

Finally got around to buying and listening to the latest Flaming Lips album ' Embryonic' and have to say it sounds mighty interesting. Looking forward to getting to know it.

My daughter is crazy for this skrillex. It's all shit noise to me. Even Korn have got in on the act.

Yeah, I like that too.

I'd love to see Om, nearly sorted out going to Roadburn (festival in Tilburg) but it sod out faster than, well a lot faster than an Om song. Sleep headlining there too as well as Yob so the Alexandra Palace thing is making up for it well. Different stuff on the other nights, still tickets I think, just no weekend ones...

Hmm, that new Korn just seems like Nine Inch Nails but squeekier, or something. I don't mind some Korn, but not listened to them for ages. Not familiar with this Skrillex thing of which you speak though.
