General / Hang in there, McNulty

Just a note to say I was on holidays in Barcelona and put your picture on hold, but have since resumed drawing. Sorry to do a Glenn Fabry on it, but it shouldn't be too long now.
P.S. Noticed a place in Barcelona called 'Esquerra'.

Now, 2000ad has attacked lots and lots of 'authority' figures, including various US and UK governments, religion, and well, I can't remember any others at the moment but they're there. But the one ruling body that's satirised most consistently is the Royal family. Now, I'm far from a monarchist myself (I'm not from a country with a royal family in the first place), but while I've seen Earthlets defend Reagan and even Bush, no one has ever defended the Royal family. I'm curious, are there any monarchist 2000ad readers at all? Another thing I've noticed is, most of the writers to feature parodies of the Royal family have been Scottish: Alan Grant, John Wagner, Gordon Rennie, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison and Robbie Morrison are the ones I can remember offhand. So there you go now.

Can't quite remember who the pervy boarder who once licked her leg was, but she seems to be back in a new band with a new single. It was in some Sunday supplement, can't remember which one either.

It's no wonder old comics are banned by the Judges. If people could read Judge Dredd in old 2000ads and Megazines,  Psi-division would be out of a job.

I don't have any friends.

Your artwork is well underway, in case you thought I'd forgotten. It's Dredd squaring up to the ABC warrior (who, although only half finished, looks a bit like Hammerstein in Bisley's ABC warriors, i.e. with no helmet. Not being able to find Bisley's artwork though, I based him on an old picture of Big Arnie.) Anyway, hang in there, It's on the way

Dredd (on citizens and hotties):
'They do everything you'd care to name with them and a few more things besides.'
Later: 'This is one zoom you're gonna catch!'; then 'I'm dangerous? I'M dangerous? YOU'RE GRUDDAMN RIGHT I'M DANGEROUS!' Two of the very rare times Dredd has lost the rag completely. Can't remember any more, apart from that rubbish one in the megazine not by Wagner where Dredd had to work in Control.

General / Anyone remember, etc, etc (sorry)

Apologies, but there's incomplete memory of a film melting my brain:
In it, a young couple (I think) go camping in a woods which borders on a shore. I think it's in Australia or New Zealand or something, and it becomes a bit of a disturbing horror film as they realise they are lost. They keep hearing these horrendous mournful noises like children wailing, which turns out to be walruses or something but somehow is no less terrifying. I thought it was 'Walkabout', but having watched that recently, it isn't.

And while you're there, there's another British film about a boat trip down a river which ends up getting weird and violent, with a girl smashing a tin of beans over some bearded bloke's head. The bearded bloke got a bit weird on the trip, as did his girlfriend, I think, and the last scene is the main character and his girlfriend skinny dipping.

Thanks, y'all

General / Anyone remember this video?
16 August, 2004, 07:41:29 PM
It was in the eighties, around the time when Tiswas used to be on. It was full of blokes involved in pre-CGI, bluescreen image manipulation trickery, such as a small man sitting under what looked like a cross-section of a huge table of room, but was actually another big bloke bent over backwards (er, if you get my drift). There was another bit where some punter was flying round on a table or a carpet or something. There wasn't much going on in the background, I think most of it was just black apart from the blokes doing the weird things. Any ideas?

General / My dream
14 August, 2004, 10:45:51 PM
I was woken up last night by one of my friends ringing the doorbell at 5 o'clock as he was staying over and have forgotten his key. It's just as well I woke up, really, as otherwise I would never have remembered my dream about Roger Mellie from Viz sitting in the back seat of a car in a car park, drinking cans of 'Student Beer' (the label of which obviously cheap beverage depicting a cartoon drunken student).
Thank you for your time.

General / Anyone remember this film?
13 August, 2004, 08:10:35 PM
Spurred on by arcade game thread, I'd like to take this opportunity to settle something that has been niggling for years.
I saw a film when I was a kid which I hazily remember. It involved a load of family members sitting in a room watching a video of a recently deceased, elderly (I think) male relative. He is telling them that he's bequeathing a huge fortune to them in his will; can't remember if it was all of them or if one would eventually be selected. Anyway, they all have to do something outrageous in order to inherit their fortune, can't remember what any of these were. But they all go off and do these mad things they are told to do; each one has  an individual task, as far as I remember. Anyway, at the end they all come back to watch the second part of the video, in which he tells them the only line I can remember from the film- 'You're getting nothing'. The filthy old non-coffin-dodging bastard.
So what was it? Someone suggested 'Brewster's Millions', which I haven't seen, but it doesn't quite match up. Any ideas?

General / Where do you put your bleeding comics?
12 August, 2004, 07:20:43 PM
Not being much of a collector, I recently put practically every prog from the last two years into tow huge bags and gave them to a friend of mine (who is very similar in both stature and nature to Jarod Kawl, but that's another story). This was partly because, well, I'd read them already and they weren't going to change, and I knew they had gone to a very appreciative new owner (Kawl, as I say). But it was mainly because I just don't have the bleeding space for them. Where do you 'Deca Thargos' actually put your 2000ads? I have the attic in my parents' house stacked with old ones, and the small bedroom in my own (rented) house was overflowing with them after only two years. How do YOU store YOURS then?

General / ABC warriors timeline
09 August, 2004, 07:42:49 PM
Would I be right in saying that when the warriors were originally on Mars, it was in the 21st century, whilst now it's in the post-Torquemada era? If so, the planet hasn't really evolved too much, and it's weird that Termight is called Earth again and that native Martians survived the alien purges. It's still good though. That is all

General / Who's better - me or you?

I'm going with me, but other boarders' opinions would be appreciated. So what's it to be then, me or you?

General / Pat Mills- has he still got it?
09 August, 2004, 07:32:01 PM
Well, I don't like Siddha, or recent Slaine, or that Satanus thing, but I'm going yes, just for Savage. apart from the 'funks' and the stupd extra-slippy soap bit, it's funking good.

So - Pat Mills, nowadays: good or bad?

General / Back in the day
28 July, 2004, 05:08:00 PM
Now, I know my messages only go back a year, but I used to post with a different name (well, the same one, but with spaces) and a different e-mail address. So I think I've been here over two and a half years now... holy sheet, batman. I think Jimbob was around then (I remember having an arguement with him about Afghanistan), as were Oddboy, Logan and the Watcher. Anyone remember Death Monkey?

General / 2000AD Audio progs
20 July, 2004, 02:06:31 AM
I haven't heard one yet. SO how do they work? Is there a narrator telling the story or is it all dialogue and sound effects? And does everyone sound like they should? The Playstation Dredd certainly does.

General / Skizz
20 July, 2004, 02:03:44 AM
I recently bought an old Best of 2000ad reprinting Skizz. But it only got up as far as he explained to the dodgy government bloke about the Sun-Snuffer device. It'll be years, no doubt, before I bother finding the next bits. So what happened in the end? Also, why is Skizz missing from my 2000ad memory (I'm sure I was reading it back then)? Apart from the dodgy sequels, that is.

General / 2000ad's second ever F-word

Well, kind of. Does 'hoverfux' count? It could be called the third if you count the grafitti in 'The Final Solution'.

General / Note to Floyd JK

Howya Floyd, am I right in saying that you teach kids English? If so, I've just had one of my best classes ever by making Spanish teenagers play the board game Pictionary. It's the first time they've ever stayed on well past going home time. I'm only about 10 months in the job, though, so you may well know the score already.
