Prog / Re: Prog 2272 - Future Tense!

I rarely commit to the prog threads anymore because, well, everyone else puts it so much more succinctly than I do. But by goddamn has this latest run of THE ORDER been the mutts nuts.

Go Nagais DEVILMAN hits even harder on its second read than it did on the first. People like to joke about how daft the time travel arc was (rightly so, it is) but its a weird blip on one of the best comic runs ever made. Absolutely not for the faint hearted, hedonistic in ways western comics could never get away with at the time wrapped up in the best first/final chapter narrative diopter out there.

At time misery porn, at times bizarro pulp nonsense, indisputably Go Nagai.

THE GODFATHER PART II

My white whale. An inexcusable blind spot in my cultural experience, and seeing the 4K remaster of the first movie last week was a damn fine primer to finally break into the sequels.

Yeah. Not much more to add that hasn't been said a billion times already. Art.

It's really telling when even Japan is willing to step up and enforce trade and economic sanctions, historically (since the end of t'war, of course) the most "neutral" of economic superpowers putting their neck out for once.

Truly what we're seeing are changing times unfolding at a rapid pace, and at its heart a bunch of innocent folks. Civilians just wanting to go about their life, and soldiers who'd (mostly) rather be home with their families. Putin has nothing to gain here beyond making the rest of the world think for even a second he doesn't have a micro-penis. Sad stuff.

I really don't know how to phrase this without it sounding self deprecating or demeaning to those potentially still suffering from similar issues, particularly in a week where the hydra of social and political wrath appears to have raised its many heads simultaneously. But in a week of said discourse, I've just been reminded its been 5 years this week since I walked out on a truly horrid, toxic relationship and stopped SH'ing.

Not saying there haven't been times in those some 60 months where I haven't been tempted to let the knives do the talking again but it hasn't happened. And that feels like a small victory in a week of truly horrible stuff.

Funny how Netflix seems to squirt out a dozen original cartoons a year but F is For family is the only good one out of the bunch and i've never seen anyone talking about it. Five seasons, didn't outlive its welcome at all. Great show.

Your mouth is full of wrong! Archer, Big Mouth, Final Space, South Park and Bojack Horseman are fantastic. I gave up on F is for Family after a few episodes - just seemed like a boring outdated family sitcom. F is for Fuckingshite more like

Wait, since when was SOUTH PARK on Netflix?! I retract my statement and add a single asterisk.

Weird Netflix thing for me was, leading up to Jackass Forever I felt the urge to rewatch the first 3 (well, 4.) movies which where listed on Letterboxd as being available on Netflix UK. Jackass 3.5 was but not the others. Annoying.

I feel the best approach with this kind of situation is the Fantographics boxed edition, containing the 'fiction' in one paperback tome and the ancillary material in a second. Companion pieces that serve to complement one another without detracting from the narrative intentions.

Haha, for a moment by the powers of thread necromancy I thought this was about Incubus and vs. Predator (Megazine) both of which, for all their faults, I think are actually pretty great.

The IDW series I never read and even if I did can't help but think it would slip right out of my mind.

I've always leant into the Ligottian philosophy of consciousness being an inherently self destructive, independent entity distinct from its host body and locked in a constant war of attrition against its flesh and blood prison.

On a slight side step I rewatched SHANG-CHI last night and ya know what, I really really like this one! Certainly of the three HK actioner headed Hollywood efforts that dropped last year its the lesser entry of the three but its certainly a hell of a time with some of the most clear and engaging choreography in a mainstream feature in years. Really glad theres at least one of these movies I can vibe with.
